Cool. I think one way it would work without a lot of headaches is how we almost did this thread. I mentioned this a few posts back, but anyway (and assuming that "10" is the magic number).
(1) Have everyone list their top 10 favorite comedy albums.
(2) Compile the ones with the most votes.
(3) Vote-off the bottom stragglers to round the list off to 10.
(4) And you're freakin' DONE with the voting part. Leaving everyone free for the fun part - discussing what we enjoy and why.

I think her popularity stemmed from the fact that she spoke to a huge segment of the comedy audience that wasn't being spoken to before, and really hasn't been since. This is pretty much why the Blue Collar Comedy Colon Cancer Epidemic has been so successful as well.

But that's so simple. You're hardly leaving any room for Swedish Miyagi to stamp his little feet and pooch out his bottom lip at everybody.

Yeah, that'd be a damn shame.

You know, from now on - Brian Regan has a hell of a lot of hype to live up to with all those Regan-worship vibes ringing throughout this thread.

out of comedians everyone has seen live, who did you enjoy the most? I've seen Lewis Black, Dave Attell, Mitch Hedberg, Tracy Morgan, Jon Stewart, George Carlin, Charlie Murphy, Bill Burr, and the guy that played Ashy Larry. Out of all of those, Charlie Murphy needed some MAJOR work, he basically did his chappelle show schtick where he told stories, and Tracy Morgan was far and away the funniest. The guy had the room in tears. Jon Stewart and Dave Attell get the consolation prize..Attell would have had it if I wasn't already so familiar with the material that he did.

I'm pretty sure that Brian Regan is the only famous comedian I've ever seen live (once in Atlanta). He was a lot of fun. I also remember that his brother opened for him. And sucked.

Guy deserves a lot of love thrown his way. He puts on a great show. Just go see him when he rolls through town. He tours always.

I've seen Steven Wright, Zach Galifianakis and Wayne Cotter.

Wright was funny but the seats were terrible. Nosebleed is not the way to see a comedian.

But I sat about 10 rows back when I went to see Zach G a few months ago. The show wasn't long enough (maybe 45 minutes total for his set, not including warm-up), but was brilliant. It included a long segment where he free-formed with the audience. Worked wonderfully with the packaged material. Great stuff.

I got to say, Patrick is right on this thing getting way too complex for its own good. I was an active participant in this thread early on, and I thought the "one elimination by one person a day" tactic we had going on worked well. There was no need to change that mid-stream and start fresh because of babies like miyagi. It's a list, it doesn't need to be perfect. Bad pool.

One elimination a day is stupid because there's no consensus..some idiot like miyagi could have come on here and eliminated a great. If you really think the seconding a nomination is that difficult to get by..come on...

I really like Regan and in this very thread, I did mention that he is the only famous comedian I've ever seen live. BUT, swedish miyagi was bound and determined to twist the arms of everyone in this thread until we all agreed that Brian Regan is funnier than Carlin and most every other comedian that ever lived. miyagi continued on and on with these pissy stubborn rants to be sure things stayed unpleasant as possible. The rest of us just wanted to enjoy the discussion/voting.

Rath, at some point about mid-way through this thread, the discussion just stopped - I suppose because people lost interest after a while. But a few of us who wanted to see this thing to the end brought it back. Over time, for better or worse, we all decided on the new rules together. But most of the posters who stayed involved behaved like reasonable and polite people (aside from at least one obvious exception). So I'm asking you the same thing I asked Patrick: Why didn't you just help us decide on how to make it work in the 1st place rather than come complain after it's all over?

For those of you who have Showtime, there's a really interesting documentary making the rounds called WHEN STAND UP STOOD OUT about the boom of Boston comics in the late 70's/early 80's, guys like Steven Wright, Lenny Clark, Denis Leary, etc. I caught some of it last night and it was pretty interesting.

I love anything that talks about the art and technique of stand-up.
