Let's get icky with the White Stripes - Page 2

I heard ICKY THUMP in its entirety for the first time on the way home from work today. Their track record continues to astound, as ICKY THUMP is their third straight masterwork, and not only that, it may just be the best Stripes disc yet.

DE STIJL making hot love with ELEPHANT all nite long = ICKY THUMP.

The biggest standouts in an album full of them could be 'Prickly Thorn, But Sweetly Worn', whose chorus explodes from the speakers, or 'Little Cream Soda', an avalanche of awesome riffage.

Little Cream Soda -----> Rag And Bone is one of the greatest 1-2 punches ever put to tape

Going by the CHUD scale, just for giggles, I'd rank their discography like this at the moment:

THE WHITE STRIPES: 7.0/10
DE STIJL: 9.5/10
WHITE BLOOD CELLS: 8.0/10
ELEPHANT: 9.8/10
GET BEHIND ME SATAN: 9.2/10
ICKY THUMP: 9.7/10

To quote Jimmy Franco, it's "Sooooooooo good." THUMP indeed makes it three earth-shakingly awesome albums in a row, if you're scoring at home.

This place is like a MANSION!

I must have used this phrase at least 5 times a day since first hearing that song.

The White Stripes never clicked with me. It's not that they weren't good musicians, it just never connected. Until now. This CD's terrific, and I feel confident to revisit their catalog with inspired fervor now.

G Behind Me. first, Elephant later and then White Blood cells. What grab you this time?

Just the whole thing, but that second song "You Don't Know What Love Is (You Just Do As You're Told)" and "Rag And Bone" really charmed the shit out of me.

Anyone hear a heavy Townshend influence on Prickly Thorn?

Jack has finally challenged his vocals on a Stripes disc. His guitar and bang-and-clatter with Meg used to do most of the emoting for him, but I gotta say he's really blossomed as a singer with ICKY THUMP. Giving his voice room to breathe and function was a wise decision.

As much as I've praised ICKY THUMP since its release, even I didn't expect its impact to be felt this strongly in just a few short days. This disc is holding up like few have in recent years, and, *gasp*, this is heading down the "top 10 of all-time" road the way things are going now. Listening to a classic unfold right before your ears is something that I'll cherish forever. Such an amazing feeling.

The more I listen to this album, the more I love it. And that's always a great sign. I'll be pretty surprised if this doesn't stick to my top 3 (maybe even #1) at the end of the year. Still too early to tell if this is my very favorite White Stripes disc so far, but it certainly owns that spot at the moment. Of course, I was head over heels for Elephant from the first time I heard it too. Get Behind Me Satan is wonderful, but Icky Thump rocks harder overall - which is what I was hoping for, actually. Good soild rock and roll that's both instantly appealing and holds up to repeat listens is hard to come by these days.

timeless record

bump!

sorry but this disc arrived here kinda late.
first impressions: oh those fucking lyrics, this is the best work from jack regarding this subject.
meg: just fine, I felt more comfortable listening to her at GBMeSatan.
Overall this is just great and it's a direct hit to what I thought right after GBMeS. if you like The Stripes there limits among the LP are kinda vague and it's quite cool instead (all their songs since WBCells will a perfect blend if they are mixed properly). This songs would stand upon repeating them all day.

ETA: I just skip 1 and 2 just to listen to them at the end.

It was said regarding V.Underground that among the few who bought their records everyone would start a band. The same applies with this record. The funny side it's that Jack will bring something all new and wouldn't rest among this treasures.
