Coulter under fire for anti-gay slur
Quote:
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Prominent politicians from both parties and a gay-rights group on Saturday condemned right-wing commentator Ann Coulter for her reference Friday to Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards as a "faggot."

"Ann Coulter's use of an anti-gay slur yesterday was un-American and indefensible," Edwards said in a posting on his Web site, www.johnedwards.com.

"In America, we strive for equality and embrace diversity. The kind of hateful language she used has no place in political debate or our society at large.

"I believe it is our moral responsibility to speak out against that kind of bigotry and prejudice every time we encounter it."

Edwards' campaign posted the video on their Web site, and asked readers to help them "raise $100,000 in 'Coulter Cash' this week to keep this campaign charging ahead and fight back against the politics of bigotry."

Coulter made her comment in Washington during an address to the 34th annual meeting of the Conservative Political Action Conference, during which she gave her opinions about the Democrats' slate of presidential hopefuls.

"I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate, John Edwards, but it turns out that you have to go into rehab if you use the word 'faggot,' so I'm - so, kind of at an impasse, can't really talk about Edwards, so I think I'll just conclude here and take your questions," said Coulter, whose comment was followed by applause.

CNN has reached out to Coulter's representative, and received no response.

But the New York Times reported that she responded, in an e-mail, "C'mon, it was a joke. I would never insult gays by suggesting that they are like John Edwards. That would be mean."
Bets on how fast this simply goes away?

She must have been just about to slip into obscurity again. Every time America threatens to stop caring what she has to say, she comes out with something incredibly foul. And here we are, obliging her by talking about her.

I wish she'd just let the anorexia win, and die.
Yeah, I almost started a thread on this earlier today; I was surprised there hadn't been any chatter on it yet.

Kind of a shame that the Grey's thing occupied the media's attention for months, but this will go away in a couple of days.
That's because people care about Grey's Anatomy, and nobody gives a shit about Ann Coulter. She's just the Republican Clown Show that everyone has to sit through to get to the interesting parts of the circus.

I've read a lot of people saying this exact same thing. The only problem is since the last time she did something like this, Dems are now in power and "starting" to show a little more backbone. Republicans are even starting to distance themselves from her.

I wish she'd just let the anorexia win, and die.
Or maybe her body would start rejecting the hormone pills she takes.
She has quite the pair of balls to say that in public.

No, seriously, she has a pair of balls.

She's a man.

When I heard about this I thought that she must have another book coming out. I guess I was wrong.
I never thought Limpbah, Drudge, and O'Reily could be topped in scummy behavior, but here we have it. Such a rotten bitch. I bet she uses "Nigger" whenever Obama says something she dislikes.

What the hell is a conservative today anyway? They hate everything. Immigrants, gay people, poor people, animals, the environment...

Could you imagine going to a party with these people? What kind of fun could these lowlifes have? They hate drugs, sex, music, movies, television, books that aren't written by their kind. Nasty, worthless people

They are racists in expensive suits. Fuck them all.
It's not anorexia, it's meth. Bugged out whore.
Just as an insult. It's lame. Here we have a Democratic candidate, formerly from 04 and that's all she has? Weak.

I guess Edwards could respond back saying, she's a cheap-shot artist and a high-strung, hatchet-mouth harpy that wouldn't know a kind word if it laid eggs in her filthy, gaping maw.

Ann Coulter continues to sink to new lows.

Why won't she go away?

No, the thing is, they'd probably do all those things. Bunch of fucking hypocrites.

This is especially funny to me because I just saw Idiocracy this weekend. I'll bet John Edwards' shit is all fucked up too.

True. Nobody does it better.

She makes me wish I were a faggot.
I was actually hoping Ann Coulter would be in the next Grey's Anatomy as the cunt of some pregnant crack addict whore who would lose her baby and call T.R. Knight a fagot while Isaiah Washington is in the background smiling.

I don't get it- every time I want to believe one of these batshit insane conservative talking heads has at least some sort of moral decency, they break this shit out. And she said it not to a friend, or the media, but to a room full of people. Disgusting.

It that makes it worse how?

How fucking morally and emotionally redundant do you have to be to stand on the same side as this human puke?
You have to go to rehab if you us the word faggot?
I think it's some kind of bad joke about the guy from Grey's Anatomy, who is seen as a victim of the liberal media by right wing pundits.

Do you mean repugnant? Otherwise, I have no idea what you are trying to say here. If you do mean repugnant, what do you mean by "stand on the same side?" I hope you are not trying to indict all who hold some conservative views because of the actions of this idiot. Like Greg said, she's an attention whore. She states a conservative position using shocking, hateful language to stir up controversy. She knows that will increase her book sales and speaking fees. She's built her career on crap like this. I am, generally speaking, a conservative. This hateful crackpot in no way speaks for me.

Edit: If you are talking about the people who applauded her after that comment, yes, they suck.

Edwards does have faggy hair.

sometimes i wish coulter would die, but then i realize that such a simple thought it wasted because it's about her... and the moment it takes for thoughts like that to cross my mind requires more effort than that bitch is worth.

I don't think that calling someone a name is meritous of the death penalty or should inspire such vehemence. Sticks and stones.
Coulter reminds me of The Simpsons halloween episode "Attack of the 50-Foot Eyesores", if we just don't look, hopefully she'll just die. Someone get Paul Anka on the phone.

Yes, I suppose it would be worse if she were hiding it.

Bottom line- it was used. Fuck her. I can't believe people invite her to events like this.

I wonder what Cheney's gay daughter and Laura Ingram's gay brother think of this?
That Ann Coulter is a fucked up attention whore, I'd guess.
CUNT comes to mind.

Is it just me or do all the big media-whore pundits seem to have had shitty parenting while growing up? You'd think that their parents would have taught them such things as 'tact' and 'social grace', but these dipshits run their mouths at every conceivable moment in front of people, regardless of any standards of etiquette. In fact, to hear them talk, they are BEYOND such trifles such as 'etiquette' because opening their mouth and letting all the stupid out for display is their GOD-GIVEN AMERICAN RIGHT BY JOVE!

In conclusion, anyone who would say the things that these pundits say out in public is a Neanderthal, and the ones who support them saying it are no better.

I likes this brand new column which analyzes and dissects the Coulter personality in light of her latest misadventure.

Thanks for posting that link, PMR. A favorite excerpt:

The only real complaint from Bush followers about the Commander-in-Chief is that he has not given them enough Guantanamos and wars and aggression and barbaric slaughter and liberty infringement. Their hunger for those things is literally insatiable because they need fresh pretexts for feeling strong.

And that is where Ann Coulter comes in and plays such a vital -- really indispensible -- role. As a woman who purposely exudes the most exaggerated American feminine stereotypes (the long blond hair, the make-up, the emaciated body), her obsession with emasculating Democratic males -- which, at bottom, is really what she does more than anything else -- energizes and stimulates the right-wing "base" like nothing else can. Just witness the fervor with which they greet her, buy her books, mob her on college campuses. Can anyone deny that she is unleashing what lurks at the very depths of the right-wing psyche? What else explains not just her popularity, but the intense embrace of her by the "base"?

Beautiful.
I'd still fuck Ann Coulter up the ass. Hard.
I think everyone takes it as gospel that she actually means what she is saying and won't even allow the possibility that she is exagerating to an extreme degree the whole conservative trope as a means to lampoon both the elitist liberal intelligentsia and the neo-fascist, exclusivistic conservative movement. She kills both birds with one stone's throw; sells books tons of books; raises her speaker's fees; sends politicos, pundits, and the blog-o-sphere reeling in righteous indignation; illicits hypocratical responses to her words; and proves her detractors to be almost as venal as they accuse her of being. Quite possibly, her public persona could be the greatest bit of performance art this country has ever seen. She just might be Andy Kaufmann writ large on the American political landscape.

Or not...she could just be having bad menstrual cramps and this is her way of coping.
I don't think for a minute that she believes what she's saying. When she makes up shit to support her case in her books, she knows she's making shit up. Obviously, she didn't do any research, or she'd find out she's full of shit. But that doesn't make me hate her less. In fact, it makes her even worse. At least if she believed it, she'd be sincere. Like I said, she's just an attention whore; she'll say whatever will get people talking about her, and if she thought liberal bullshit would serve that purpose more than conservative bullshit, she'd turn on a dime.

I personally know several women I hate who I'd still fuck. That just means you're a dude. Although, if I'm going to fuck a woman in the ass, I'd prefer not to be impaled on her hip bone. The woman seriously needs to eat something.

To be fair, though, you're talking about fucking women. Gabe is talking about fucking Ann Coulter.

Political debate in this nation is a fucking joke. Just a bunch of children calling each other fags and Nazis. Coulter, unfortunatly, will keep on keeping on with her bullshit and there are millions of jerk offs willing to buy into it.

I'd pig fuck her.

Watch out, Zod. She might try to fuck you with a strap-on.

Apologies for the tardiness - you're right of course, I had a righteous-anger-brain-fart. What I was trying to say was if you actually support what this harpy says, you are morally and emotionally retarded. But then I'd say that about anyone who leans far Right.

And I'm sorry, JVC, but the old 'I'm conservative but she doesn't speak for me' schtick doesn't wash. This wasn't some book-signing, populated by mouth-breathing Coulter-fetishists - This was CPAC. One of the highest profile Conservative events on the calendar, attended by many, many emminent Republicans. In other words, she was welcomed with open arms, and applauded, at a mainstream Conservative conference. Anyone who calls themselves a Republican, like it or not, stands beside these people. And along with the homophobes, the religious zealots, the racists, and the slack-jawed troglodytes who would vote a despotic chimp like Bush in twice because they are too fucking moronic to know any better - the Right in America make up the very very worst humanity has to offer at this time. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Point me to the equivalent of Coulter on the Left. Hannity. O'Reilly. Limbaugh. Point me to an official Democratic event where this type of bile is not only tacitly accepted, but applauded. You can't.
