Jurors Reach Verdict in trial of Scooter Libby. The verdict will be read in about 10 minutes:

Quote:
Jurors reached a verdict Tuesday in the trial of I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, a former White House aide accused of lying and obstructing an investigation into the leak of a CIA operative's identity.

The verdict will be read at 12 noon EST in the courtroom where jurors heard 19 witnesses during the five-week trial. The verdict came on the 10th day of deliberations. The announcement was made by Randall Samborn, a spokesman for special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald.

For about another hour. Then it's back to tropical funerals, 12-hour rehab stays and enough substance abuse to reanimate the corpse of Rick James.

Sucker.

So I guess his prison cell will have nice white sand, blue water and some lovely ladies delivering drinks at his request.

Thanks JVC....

I'm glad they got that much at least.

Still want to see Cheney indicted.

I'm a little worried for the jurors now. The history this administration has for going after people, publicly and/or privately, is well known. Even after people that were just doing their assigned jobs. It sucks that Libby will be out of jail during the appeal. No one should be surprised if Libby gets a pardon very quickly, especially if it looks like Libby's going to go behind bars.

I'm hoping that Libby sings like a bird. Cheney is really the game here.

A pardon will probably have to wait until January 2009, right before Bush leaves office. The political consequences of such a high profile pardon would be a lot for this administration to handle right now. Right before Hillary moves into the White House? Not so much.

The judge made some fairly interesting statements regarding the defense's case.

Would you mind enlightening us with your wisdom?

Is the Rick James reanimation confirmed?

The judge basically said, if I remember correctly, that a lot of the rulings he made was on the belief, made by the Defense, that Libby and/or Cheney were going to testify. If the judge knew that Libby and/or Cheney weren't going to testify then he would have done things very differently.

Questions:
1. How long will the appeal process go on for?
2. If sentencing goes through and Libby has to go to jail will bush Pardon him?
3. If Bush does not pardon him, will he talk?

1. First they will make a motion for a new trial, which will almost certainly be denied. Although the judge admits that there were some questionable proceedings, they did not affect the outcome.

The appeals process will probably last a few months, though I doubt the Supreme Court will review it (I'm assuming the Federal appellate court upholds).

2. There's an awfully good chance, if it looks like Libby will talk. Someone up above thinks that Bush won't pardon until he's almost out of office. To which I say: He's Bush, not given to sound strategic decions-making, and he's already so politically crippled that he almost has nothing to lose.

3. There's an awfully good chance of this as well. He was the VP's chief of staff, and you know he has dirt. Plus he and his defense team seemed awfully pissed with everyone else involved who didn't get indicted and thinks that Libby got hung out to dry by the Adminsitration to protect certain others, namely Cheney and Rove.

A friend told me there are already rumors of Cheney resigning. Doesn't seem like something he'd do unless he knew Libby was going to roll over on him.

If Bush pardons him now he's probably going to get impeached. The GOP would hang him alive--they're already pissed at the guy, this would probably push them over.

Cheney is very stubborn and refuses to accept reality more often than not. At the same time, he leave due to "health reasons" since "doctors just discovered a blood clot in his leg." I tend to be a little dubious over the coincidental nature of Cheney's health news with the fact that the Libby verdict was imminent.

Yeah, it's like they tossed Cheney into a plane and flew him around until he clotted up. I guess that they saw the verdict coming.

Actually, reading Free Republic they seem pretty pissed at this verdict. They may hate Bush, but Cheney is still one of the boys, and they see this as an attack on the Veep.
