Borat on DVD

Picked it up this morning. Love the fact that under the cardboard sleeve it looks like a bootleg, from the blurry laser printer cover to the fake sharpie "borat" on the actual DVD.

The deleted scene with the cheese destroyed me.

The real question is, do I want to spend an extra five dollars to wear a "Very Niice" t-shirt that a ton of other posers will be wearing? I just may. Damn you Best Buy for stupid money making schemes.....
I'm watching this for the first time tonight. I can hardly wait. I will also be checking out the deleted scenes.

I hear the "Baywatch" spoof is amusing. It's called something like "SexySwim Watch" or something.
Hey I bought that best buy one, and I'll proudly wear that shirt till it falls apart (for like a day or so).
Funny thing is when I rented this, I opened it. It looked like a pirated movie with the sharpie writing on it. with a weird blank dvd maker name. I will wait for the unrated borat edition.

If you want the cool looking cover art you best not get it from best buy. You take off the slipcase and its exactly the same underneath, while those that have purchased from other places have gotten the funny bootleg looking, written in kazakh cover under the slipcase. Now I need to go to the dreaded WalMart and rebuy it from them, and return the other one.

Correction: Someone claims they saw the Kazakh one at a Best Buy. For some reason its in limited quantities. Great success? No.

The special features, though, are lacking. I'd say wait for the Special Edition.

I absolutely love this case. Reminds me a lot of the DVD I have of Day Watch.
Just rented it with a friend...

the local-network news feature on the rodeo is priceless... dunno why it wasn't included in the movie...

You gotta give it up for the store employee. He went above and beyond in the patience department.

Great movie. I laughed most of the way through. Strongly believe they should have included that cheese scene in the movie. The special features that are on there are good, but there aren't many of them. I'd say the odds of a double dip on this are about 100%.

I remember a lot of stuff from the commericals that is nowhere to be found on the disc. Maybe they'll put that stuff back in for the SE.

Oh, now I remember that this was one of the scenes they put on YouTube a while back. What's funny is that I had a manager at Target who would have behaved in exactly teh same way.

Picked this up today at Walmart.

I got the t-shirt with it. I didn't want the t-shirt but it came with the widescreen one which I felt was odd. But anyways, now I have a t-shirt and I don't know what to do with it. Guess I'll just give it to a friend or something.

Anyways, hopefully I can watch this later tonight.

Wow, this isn't the type of movie that holds up to repeat viewings, glad I didn't buy it.
Am I alone on this? I had a blast in the theater, but now I could care less whether I ever see it again. Kind of the same deal as with the Jackass movies.
Nex, I feel the same way. Borat was hilarious but I have no real desire to see it again much less own it.
I feel the same way. I saw this in the theater and loved it. My girl, who never got a chance to see it, rented it last night and it just wasn't as funny. Although the deleted scenes were pretty good. Although the hotel scene is still pretty funny.

As for Jackass, I think that has more repeated viewing power than Borat. I still pop in number 2 to just watch the terrorist skit. That cracks me up every time.

Yeah, I don't think the "reality" films hold up as well under repeated viewings.

Luckily, Sasha's performance is strong enough that it DOES hold up, or at least it has for the 3 times I've seen it. The big shit, the hotel room scene, that's all in the shock value (and the balls) but little shit, like "Is this a Cat....in a Hat?" still crack me up. Crack me in damned half.

Still, wait for the inevitable special edition. Hopefully by then you'll be far enough away from the storm that was it's release that it'll sem a bit fresher to you.
I hope so. You may be right.
Another thing with Borat and Jackass is the crowd factor. While it might be true of most any comedy, when I saw Borat in theaters the laughter was infectious. I made it like halfway through the DVD and decided to wait until I can watch it with some friends who haven't seen it. Also, I've held off on the deleted scenes so I'm sure I'll enjoy those.
That crowd factor can be a factor for the dvd as well. A dvd like this would work well when you have a lot of people over and have to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

I think he was stoned off his ass from the looks of it.

Best fucking part of the movie. Just that one line...so fucking perfect.

Anyway, regarding the deleted scenes and why they weren't in the movie, it's hard to imagine where they would fit considering how the whole thing played out, which sucks because all of those scenes are brilliant. The only one I can imagine fitting in to the current cut of the movie is Sexydrownwatch.

I bought this version and will inevitably buy any special edition with more footage that comes out, but who gives a shit? I love this movie and it's great to show to people who've never seen it before.

I know what you guys mean about the rewatchability, but you can always pick and choose scenes like you're watching the show, which is easier to take again and again 'cause it's shorter. Also, watching it with more people, especially people who haven't seen it, adds a lot.

Or stoned, or just really polite.

It's a double-edged sword with Borat. He can expose how crazy it is to tolerate shit like this, but he's the one taking advantage of it and what exactly did we expect the guy to do? Smack him?
This has some of the best deleted scenes in a very long while. The masseuse, the stint as a Krystal employee, it's all pretty hilarious stuff.

I both agree and disagree about the re-watchability. It's not the same experience watching it at home as it is in a packed house on a Friday or Saturday night where the laughter obscures the lines sometimes.

I still laughed my ass of watching it here at home, but to me it's just a different experience.

"That's cheese. That's cheese too. That's also cheese. That's cheese. That's cheese."

It took the guy a good 5 minutes of that before he finally said "This is alllll cheese" and even after that, he continued. It was hilarious but like 45 seconds too long.

The masseuse deleted scene was excellent. As was the bit on Leno w/ Martha Stewart, even if it was "scripted" (she seemed like a good sport which I found amusing). Cohen still managed to make it quite funny.

All in all, good stuff. Honestly, I was surprised Anderson was in on the joke at the end. That scream seemed very... natural and horrified. The lacking of security jumping Borat's ass immediately seemed odd and Anderson running into the parking lot kind of ruined the reality of the scene but still...

Finally caught this today. A blind purchase based on CHUD love it got. Hilarious hands down. I even watched it a 2nd time with the subtitles on so every verbal joke could be an audio AND video romance explosion on my stomatch.
