Films you've seen more than 3 times theatrically

Thread Starter
Random question of the day:

What movies have you seen more than 3 times in a theater? I've gone for plenty of repeat viewings over the years, but there's only a handful of films (of varying quality) that I've sat through more than thrice in a theater.

Here's mine:

6 - Fellowship Of The Ring
5 - Star Wars ('82, a beat up old print in '96, four times in '97)
4 - Return Of The Jedi ('83, '85, twice for the '97 SE)
4 - Jurassic Park
4 - The Phantom Menace
4 - Attack Of The Clones

Fellowship was really a case of finding new people who hadn't seen it and 'initiating' them (and once to see the extended cut). Two of my Star Wars tickets were free (one a screening at school, the other a private exhibition of an old print). I have no excuse for TPM and Clones, I was just trying really, really hard to like them.

Still, not that many, only six films over my 30 years. I'm sure there are folks who can boast double digits.

That wouldn't be me. Saw Star Wars five times the year it came out. Saw Braveheart a half dozen the year it came out.

Now...on tape or disc, yeah....lots of multiple viewings of lots of different films. But theatrically it's a rarity for me to go back more than once.
If we're just counting initial release, then I think my record is 4. Aliens within the first four weeks of release.
I think the closest I've ever come is seeing Spider-man 2 three times. I'm impressed. Actually, I don't know if I'm impressed. Seeing The Phantom Menace four times borders on masochism.
I saw Fellowship 8 times in the theater (although one was the Extended Edition screening, so that could technically be considered new).

Star Wars, hell, saw that about 7 or 8 times too (but between 1977 and 1997).
Ghostbusters. Let's say a Twinkie represented the amount of times I saw it during the summer of '84, it would be a Twinkie thirty-five feet long, weighing approximately six hundred pounds.

First person to say Titanic gets taken round the back of the building for a bullet to the back of the head.
Why? If anything, Titanic was a film that demanded to be seen on a big screen.
Phantom Menace--5
Return of the King--4
Fellowship of the Ring--4
Revenge of the Sith--4
Matrix Reloaded--3
Spider-Man--3
Attack of the Clones--3

I saw the three LOTR films 3 times apiece. Aside from that, I think I saw Wayne's World 4 or 5 times. I was in 8th grade -- what do you expect?

"What's in the box?"

Oddly, the film I saw most often in the cinema was "Seven". I was living in Holland in a time before the internet, and had not heard a thing about it before seeing a poster advertising the film outside the only mainstream cinema in town. As a result I was totally unspoilt, the tone and story were totally unexpected, and the end was a punch in the gut.

I loved the movie so much I managed to convince various separate groups of friends to go see it, for a grand total of five viewings.

The only other movie that has come close is Casino Royale - saw that three times. Still don't like the airport sequence...

I've seen planty of movies twice, but 3 times is pushing it. That said the only movie I saw multiple times was Memento at 4. It was playing a little art house theater and the crowd each time was really cool. We'd stay long after the credits rolled just dishing about the plot and trying to figure out what was going on. One of my favorite movie experiences.

Not multiple times.
I can only recall seeing Return of the King 3 times and Jurassic Park 5 times. I've seen a whole bunch twice, but almost never more than that.
Hmmm...a bunch. I saw Fellowship 13 times in the theaters, 8 of which were in the first 6 days (god, those were the days). Two Towers was 8. Return was 5. Phantom Menace was 4, I believe. Both Spidermans I saw thrice on their original run, too. Dead Man's Chest I saw three times over the opening weekend, though strangely haven't seen it since...

I managed to catch The Passion of the Christ twice opening day (and I'm not even crazy religious) and once a couple weeks later.

Working in a projection booth probably disqualifies me for a lot, as I caught most films more than once.

And I definitely intend to see 300 at least once more, which would bring it to 3.

Makes me want to drag out my stub container and count...

Okay, fine, drag me out back. I saw Titanic 4 times. Nor do I apologize for doing so.

There are worse things than Titanic. I'd save the bullet for anyone who willingly sat through Ballistic Ecks Vs. Sever more than once.

Yeah, I was going to hear the song....
So much hate Gabriel, I don't whether to reciprocate it or feel sorry for you.
Why did you see the film multiple times, then? Don't tell me it was for the special effects (which were poor), or the acting (which was terrible), or the story (which was hackneyed), or god forbid, the soundtrack. By all generally accepted means of measuring a good film (and there are more than listed above, I know), Titanic just doesn't make the cut. It's just not a good film.
I rarely see movies in theater more than once, because I don't like to see them again when they are so fresh in my memory. So, by the time I want to see them again, they are out on dvd. But I have seen Fellowship and RotK twice on the big screen.

I dunno, to meet teenage Japanese girls?

Why do people see any 'big' movie more than once? Often times you wind up going with different groups of friends, relatives, dates, whatever.
I saw Titanic twice but I was on a date with two different girls. I saw Pulp Fiction 3 times. When I was a kid my Mom dragged me to E.T. over 9 times. I never see a movie more than twice in the theaters. I don't do it very often. I am jonesing to see Zodiac again and possibly 300 since I have another free ticket.

Let me get this straight: you go and see a shit film multiple times because other people suggest it. You don't tell them it's shit and suggest going to see something new, or at least not shit?
It's rare that I see a movie more than once in the theater. PULP FICTION and JACKIE BROWN I saw twice.

I saw SWORDFISH 3 times. Looooooooong story. Actually it's a short story. I couldn't get enough of that flying bus.

Before last summer, my record was five time for the first two X-Men, The Two Towers, and the first Pirates. Five seemed like enough for me, for those movies I really love.

And then Dead Man's Chest came out, and I ended up seeing that seven times over the summer. It was insane--I love the movie, don't get me wrong, but I couldn't quite figure out why it broke the record above all others. It was mostly because of the ending--I kept running into friends who hadn't seen it and thankfully hadn't been spoiled as to the ending, and I loved seeing the look on their face when Barbossa walked down the steps. It was almost addictive.

I don't think Titanic is a shit film. It certainly hasn't aged well, but it's nowhere near as bad as the likes of Godzilla ('97), Wild Wild West, Burton's Planet Of The Apes, etc.

Those are films I would've suggested avoiding.
I saw it once out of curiosity, because hey, a movie about the Titanic. Sounds cool to a 14 year old. Once on a single date, the next on a group thing (same girl) and for the fourth, because I could. There was something engrossing about the film to me.

You know what? I think it was the music. Not the fucking song, the music. Very derivative from Braveheart, (hell, he plagiarised himself in parts, but it struck a chord. To you, oh wise and powerful, I apologize for feeling something ten years ago. I humbly beg your forgiveness. But I would certainly see it again if it ever came back to theaters. It's a film I enjoy, if you don't, that's fine.

I wasn't talking about Titanic, and neither were you in the post I replied to. If you want to talk about Titanic, see post #24 above. Everyone's entitled to their opinion, of course, but I can't understand how anyone could think Titanic was a good film. That's all.

For the record, the only films I've seen more than once in recent times were The Fountain and The Prestige (both twice).
Well I did manage to spread out my 3 times of seeing Star Wars ANH ( if you count the new version) over a few years and I did see E.T. a total of 5 times and I will even admit I got teary eyed even at the fifth viewing when SPOILER!!!! I knew the little bugger was going to live. The one that will get me kicked out of here for life is .....Godzilla (Yes the one with Matthew Broderick). I got to see it 3 times in the theater. The first at a sneak preview. The second with a friend opening weekend because I promised to go with him (and boy was he pissed off when he found out I had seen it already). The third was a special showing I set up for a group of physically and mentally challenged people I worked with ( I even had help with this from Dean Devlin the film's producer). I hope the extenuating circumstances will cut me some slack.

I saw Titanic in the theater about five times... BUT only because I worked at a movie theater when it came out and various members of my family wanted to see it for free at my expense.

I did get to see Big Lebowski about six times in the theater, also due to getting friends and family in for free.. but unlike with Titanic, I enjoyed the hell out of Lebowski.

I also saw Ghostbusters, The Last Crusade, Casino Royale and PotC2 3+ times in the theater. I know there are some others, but those come to mind right now.

Well, kudos for your noble work. Although I'm sure someone with more wit and less taste will make a joke here. I admit, it's hard not to...Godzilla...challenged...Dean...Devlin....arrr gh. I'm sure there's a joke in there somewhere.

i don't think i've ever seen a movie more than 3 times in a theater...

kill bill volume 1 i saw 3 times in the first weekend of its release, and then once more when kb volumes 1 and 2 premiered back-to-back in the states, i guess that counts. but that's the only time i went over 3.
I saw Goodfellas four times in theaters. Scorcese touched me in all the right places with that one.
The Matrix and The Matrix Reloaded, 5 times each. And neither had anything to do with different groups of friends, in fact I'm pretty sure I went solo the last 3 times on both of them (for the original, my 5th time was at a Toronto rep theatre, well after I owned it on DVD, so perhaps that doesn't count).

Besides that, there've been plenty 3-timers, near-infinite doubles, more singles than there are atoms in the universe, and quite a few 0-timers as well.

This is a good segue...

For people who see movies upwards of 5 times, how can you justify the expense? Do you have that much discretionary funding or are you seeing them for free for whatever reason (e.g., you work at a theater, you have free passes, you sneak in)?
Six bucks or less for matinee at the time I saw Fellowship, it wasn't like I was taking out loans or selling organs to make it to the show.
Seeing the Lord of the Ringses or Titanic 5 times, I'd say that's more of a time expense than a financial one. That's the reason I don't see so many movies multiple times these days -- so many things to be done with the time. Took in The Fountain twice in three days though. It finally came out in Korea last week. My god, that's a good movie.
I had seen "Anchorman" three times with friends before I moved across the street from a second-run theater. During a weeklong engagement, I paid the $2 charge about six times to see it again and again. I'm pretty sure I was the bulk of their business.
My list was all seen in theatres at their first releases.
The French Connection
The Seven Ups
Gone In Sixty Seconds (The original)
Jaws
Star Wars
The Empire Strikes Back
Dawn Of The Dead
Day Of The Dead

There are a few more but I cant think of their titles at the moment.

Well living in NYC, movies cost $10-11 a pop. But even so, seeing a movie 5 times even at $6 a pop just doesn't make financial sense to me. I don't have that kind of money to spare.

Add to that $2-$5 for parking here in L.A.

A few years ago I was seeing 50 or 60 films theatrically a year.

That's pretty scary when you add up the ticket prices (and the amount of time you spend watching ads).

I've since cut back (using the above math to justify a nice TV and Netflix), maybe only 10-15 theater visits a year.

Anyways, back to admitting our compulsive movie-watching ways.

That's thirty bucks, I can blow that in one good afternoon at a sports bar during football season.
Yeah, $30 spread out through what must have been at least a week is hardly breaking the bank. If it is then go get a better job already.
The Departed - 4

I don't go out to the movies very much, so that's bout it for me. I saw both Children of Men and The Fountain twice in the same week, so that was cool.

And that's getting off easy. A good doubleheader (Bucs vs whoever, then a game with some offense), and I can easily spend around $50 between food, beer, and darts.
Starship Troopers - 3
Star Wars - 3(saw an old print at the North Carolina School of the Arts, saw the re-release twice)
The Crow - 3
Matrix Reloaded - 3
Pulp Fiction - 4
The Matrix - 4
(possibly 5)

There are probably others that I can't remember at the moment. And yeah, I'm one of those people who saw Titanic multiple times. I know it's not a great movie, but I like aspects of it a lot(effects mostly), so sue me.

The Matrix (free passes)
Anchorman
