Davidson giving Maryland a game, no surprise there.

Great game between BC and Texas Tech right now, unless you like defense.

Stanford should have stayed on the bus. Jesus.

That should be the recap of the game on the AP wire.

James Brown is quick to refer to Oral Roberts as "ORU." Wouldn't want any Freudian slips there, JB.
So I'm visiting my folks today, and in the area there just so happens to be some piece of farm equipment that is very much on fire and a local elementary school and everything else in a half mile radius had to be evacuated. Naturally, they have a bulletin about the situation up, but some fucking genius decided it would be a good idea for the bulletin to take up the entire bottom of the screen so it's impossible to see the game score. The thing has been up for 40 minutes and probably isn't going anywhere soon, and it's a major bitch, especially considering that I can see the scores on the top of the screen for every other game.

They are scary, but don't overlook a possible matchup with Kevin Durant.

Ok, so it's ok that the Vandy game isn't on here so they can do the news because I'm still able to watch it online. But the question for me is: if I'm not in the local television area for that game (I'm about 100 miles from Vandy), then who the hell is?

Are you sure they didn't?

Trying to figure out how networks determine what games are "local" shouldn't even be attempted.
I can't believe Marquette still hasn't scored. It's like I'm watching that first Bama-Kentucky game all over again.

edit: There they go.

The live feed on CBS Sportsline is nice. Decent size, not much buffering, great while stuck at work.

Ha, yeah. I thought about working a similar jab in there. That was a joke from the word go.

Duke is having trouble with VCU. 40-38 at halftime.
I swear, this Duke-VCU game is gloriously awesome.

And CCSU should so be within 10 by now. OSU is pretty much daring them to make a comeback, and giving them all kinds of opportunities, but CCSU just doesn't want it.
So after all that fucking crashing around for a minute straight, they call a goddamn touch foul? Is that ref trying to singlehandedly ruin this game?

edit: I'm talking about VCU-Duke.
Oh thank God. That game was for my sanity.

I got that OSU has all kinds of talent, but I've watched them play a few times this year and have yet to come away impressed. I watched the Michigan-OSU Big Ten tourney game, and if Michigan had been even just a good team (never mind really good), OSU would've lost. They seem to just be going through the motions. It'll be interesting to see what happens when they're really challenged.
Too bad for the Dukies, and I'm being sincere.

I haven't been terribly impressed with OSU either, or with Oden for that matter. Sure he's got superb talent, but I just think he's pumped up too much right now. What else is new?
Man, do Chewers not watch the tourney? Is football the sport of choice here or what?

At least we got two good games out of today.
God dammit. I had Duke going all the way to the Sweet Sixteen because. . . well, because it's Duke. Rookie mistake on my part.

Everything else in my bracket has been pretty much spot-on so far, though. Go me.

God dammit, indeed. I had them going to the semi's.
I've missed 4 games in my bracket. Not too bad. At least I had Duke losing their second game anyway.
I had Duke losing game 2 also, so that's not a big loss. I missed a couple of round one picks (Texas Tech disappoined me). I had Gonzaga winning in one pool and I picked BYU in one and Xavier in another. Those 8-9 seeds are always tough to pick.

Not only is there no-one posting in this thread, only 3 people signed up for the CHUD tournament this time. Disappointing.

Of the ones I have missed so far, I didn't have any winning more than one game. So I'm still pretty good over all. We'll see how the rest of the month goes.
13-3 after the first day, the three losses being Duke, Gonzaga, and BYU. Nevertheless, by far my best start ever. Which isn't saying much since there were no real big surprises, besides VCU. And a lot of people had them anyway, I think.
Only missed three -- I had Marquette, Texas Tech, and George Washington not come through for me. But I picked the Duke upset, so I feel pretty good.
I hope the excitement level moves up a bit in this next round. I know 1s and 2s are supposed to win big, but 30 points? It was a joke.

13-3 here as well. I picked VCU over Duke but was embarassed by my Stanford pick. Also lost on Oral Roberts (my "big" upset pick of the first round) and Texas Tech.

I also had "Gus Johnson turns into werewolf," but in maybe the only true upset of the day, that didn't happen.
I picked Stanford too. But I wasn't planning to tell anyone.
11-5. I picked against every ACC team except freakin' Duke. And I'm an FSU fan. Call it bitterness since FSU didn't make the NCAA tourney.

However, every team I had wrong, I had them losing in Round 2 anyway. And I still have 3 of my final four intact (the fourth team plays today).

If Clark Kellogg can do it, so can we.
only 11 right in my money tourney(10 in yahoo) I picked too many upsets and went Duke even though I thought they were shit. But Duke usually pulls one out. Old Dominion and Davidson disappointed me. And I still have to hope Winthrop and Long Beach pull off upsets.

FF
Georgetown, Florida, UCLA, Texas A&M.
I picked Winthrop too.

I can hear the game in my office. It's playing in the cafeteria/break room around the corner. I'll not be working much this afternoon.
I think the Winthrop-ND game is one of those 'upsets' which everyone picks. Both teams got shit seeds (how THE FUCK does the 23rd ranked team in the country get an 11 seed and the 16th ranked team get a 6? Do the math, bracket masters) and they're the only two top 25 teams are playing each other in the first round. It's not really an upset when the 23rd team in the country beats the 16th on a neutral court - especially since ND can't win on the road.

If you've got a computer at your desk you can watch it online at cbs.sportsline.com.

Even though I've got Memphis in my sweet sixteen (but losing there to A&M) I'd like to see North Texas somehow keep up their pace and pull out the upset.

EDIT: And just like that, it ain't happening.
If UNT doesn't come out strong in the second half, this potential barnburner will simply be another shitstorm. But at least that GT-UNLV game is looking better.

That said, I am eextremely disappointed in Albany. After the way they played last year as a 16, they should have had a much better showing as a 13.
Yesterday was the worst first day of the tourney that I can ever recall. Just terrible, terrible games. Atleast UNC shrugged off that pathetic 10 minute run and it's always a pleasure to see Dook lose.

I had Albany upsetting UVA since I thought UVA underperformed in their last few games. Disappointing that Albany got demolished. As I said above, I picked against every ACC team except Duke and UNC, and that's screwed me so far.
Why didn't anyone tell me GT was so poorly coached?
Apparently the refs for the ND-Winthrop game forgot their whistles.
See what happens when you move away from Atlanta? You miss out on all this pertinent info (I picked UNLV, by the way--don't let the fact that Kruger coached the Hawks dissuade you).
Seriously, there's 24 seconds left in the game and their PG is walking the ball up the court. What the fuck? And I don't know how they scored as many points as they did, because they have no offensive strategy. One guy would dribble around for a while and then they'd force something when the shot clock went down.
Okay, Texas A&M-Corpus Christie needs to knock this crap off right now. I've got Wisconsin in the Elite Eight.
And I'm getting a little tired of hearing what a terrible tournament this is because all the higher seeds are winning. Isn't that WHY they're the higher seed? It may not make for a lot of excitement early on, but it also means the Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight are going to have a lot of marquee matchups.
It also means these rounds suck ass. If sweet 16 is when the good games start, why have 64 teams?

I can't figure out what Winthrop has to do to get a foul called on them. They've literally knocked players to the floor at least 5 times without a call. But then there's a bump underneath during a rebound and there's a quick whistle. It's weird.

If the same thing happens over the next three or four tournaments, then I'll worry about it.
Well then don't complain about people thinking this is a shitty tournament so far. It has been.

Winthrop isn't even dribbling anymore. They're just running up and down the court with the ball like OJ in his prime.
No, I mean it, Texas A&M-CC, knock it. The fuck. OFF.
As awful as the refs were in the ND game (they sure wanted Winthrop to move on), you have to take advantage of opportunities as you can't miss 66% of your free throws and shoot as awfully as they did coming out of halftime.
Duke and ND losing are going to make alot of people happy. Atleast the games are closer today. So much for the 5/12 seeds. Watch Illinois win to totally screw me over.
