2007 NCAA Men's BB Tournament Thread - Page 3

I was #2 of 70 in my money pool. When Carolina lost, I dropped to 40. Guess a lot of people picked Georgetown.

I have only 2 teams left, and I didn't pick either one to win another game.

After watching Ohio State squeeze by in their last two games, it was great to see them take control of a game. The whole second half of Memphis, I was a little nervous - but you could slowly see them pulling away.

I know that as a fan of OSU, I'm probably a little more excited than most - but how geeked are you for two seven footers matching up against each other? I hadn't really thought about it, but after listening to the radio this morning I was reminded that you really don't get match up of two good big men that often.

Also, I'm glad OSU is finally playing a much slower paced offensive team. It should allow Oden to be much more involved.

Georgetown's luck is going to run out against OSU. I like Hibbart, but Hansborough owned him offensively and the only reason UNC lost was because they have too many greedy players on their team and for some reason stopped going to him after the early portions of each half. You could just see Brandon Wright feeling like he HAD to shoot whenever he touched the ball.

If Oden can stay out of foul trouble, OSU should handle them. I'll say one thing, John Thompson III thoroughly outcoached Roy Williams, but I think Motta will keep his players in the right mindset and not allow all of the easy back-door layups and dunks.

I went to UNC and had them losing earlier than they did. I've learned that when playing office pools in North Carolina, never bet on an ACC team and you increase your odds of winning the pool.

You clearly don't follow college basketball.

Georgetown is better defensively, runs a better offense and has a better coach than UNC. Roy Williams is probably one of the most overrated coaches in America. Hey Roy, how about you call a timeout when your team is dying out there on the court? How about you tell them to get the ball to Hansbrough in the last 5 minutes? At least Thad Matta realized (FINALLY!) that his team is best when they feed Oden.

Agree with most of this except for Williams being an inferior coach. How is Thompson better? And how is Williams overrated?

Roy Williams isn't a great coach. He won his only title with a starting lineup of NBA players that were recruited by someone else. This last game did a great job of highlighting his faults. He doesn't actually coach kids up, he just brings in studs and lets them run around.

How the fuck can you prepare for Georgetown and still allow all of those backdoor layups? They're not great shooters or slashers, so you don't have to deny the pass at the three-point line. If you do that, you're playing right into their hands.

All they had to do was keep giving Hansborogh the ball down low and he would have either scored or at least fouled out every big man UNC had.

Probably a little more to it than that. Runner-up the last year at Kansas and I don't remember too many "studs" on the team. Again, I'm wondering how Williams is inferior to Thompson? I'm not a Williams fan, but I think he's a good coach.
Are you kidding about no studs on that Kansas team?
Who said no studs? And I guess it depends on one's definition of the term. Hinrich, Collison, Simien, Miles, Langford...I'd be very reluctant to call most of these studs. I'll give you two and the rest were really solid players, but most good teams have the same make up. Don't they?
No, they don't. Most teams' rosters aren't filled to the brim with high school all-americas like Williams' Kansas teams were. Heinrich, Collison and Simien were all big-time in college. Keith Langford was really good, too.

Teams that regularly bring in big time players are Duke, UNC, Kansas and recently Florida. That's a pretty limited field. So no, I wouldn't say all good teams have rosters like that 2003 Kansas team.

I'm not saying he's crap, mind you. He's just overrated.

My Buckeyes are doomed.

So far this year.

OSU- Got to Championship Game, Fell on Face

Chicago Bears- Finally reached promised land, forgot to hold to the ball

It's only fate at this point. Although I hope its to UCLA, another Gator defeat and I might have to kill myself.

On the bright side; The Cleveland Indians are now destined for the World Series. They will get swept of course, but I should make enough money of the run leading up to that to soften the blow.

Here we are. The BCS rematch: OSU versus FLA.

While I hope and will root for an OSU win, FLA looks so damn tough right now. If FLA can stop Conley, Jr. (who has been the true stud for OSU during this March) then it's all over.

But, hang on Sloopy - OSU has a chance. IT's an exact opposite of the BCS. No one (overall national picks) gave FLA a chance, and now no one (olverall national picks) is giving OSU a chance.

Go Bucks!

It's true the tables have turned somewhat................I'm afraid Oden is too imature to stay out of foul trouble against someone like Noah, and Florida definetely has the talent to counter Conely and the other guards.

I think they should at least open the game man to man and drop the 2-3 zone.

Thank you Billy for a magical two years. And for turning UF into a basketball school.. at least half the year.

Greg Oden showed everyone why he has been hyped for the past couple years. He was a man amongst boys tonight. I think he has ended any Kevin Durant for #1 pick debate!

Is there anyone in the Florida athletic dept. who isn't an insufferable douchebag? It's odd seeing a huge guy like Al Horford dancing like a drag queen after a dunk when he showed the rest of the game that he was scared shitless of Greg Oden.

Yes, but you probably wouldn't believe me anyway.

I knew Al when he was in HS and he was a quiet kid who rarely showed any emotion on the court. Apparently Joakim Noah has helped him come out of his shell.

In no way taking anything away from Oden, but it was fairly obvious Donovan had decided to let him get his points and concentrate on stopping OSU's perimeter shooting. They rarely if ever double-teamed Oden when he was down low, taking away his quick outlet passes that opened up their outside shots. He still played a hell of a game, but Florida's gameplan was to let him.
