Dropkick Murphys

Ok, I might be new, but I'm not too stupid to use the search function, and I didn't see anything on the Dropkick Murphys, so let's discuss, yes?

Got into them after seeing The Departed, and "I'm Shipping up to Boston," is definitely one of my favorite tracks in that flick. I now own all their albums (well, "own") and listen to them quite regularly. I hear their live shows are legendary, but I missed the boat on the few Boston shows they're doing on their tour this year. Not a mistake I intend to make again.

My favorite album is tied between "Do or Die" and "Blackout," both of which have some truly badass songs, including "Kiss Me, I'm Shitfaced," which is becoming a fast favorite for me and my buddies.

What do you guys think of the Murphys?

It's cool to "steal" music.

Hey, I go to a school populated with hippies that like to share. What can I say?
No?

Why say "no" when it feels so good to say "yes?"

Also, I feel somewhat accomplished. 9 posts in, and I'm already being belittled by the owner of the site. I must throw a party.

What kind of hippies listen to punk anyway?

Hippies with pent-up aggression? They gotta have some kind of outlet for all the pacifism and refusal to eat helplessly delicious animals.

Live on St. Patrick's Day is my favorite live record. Everyone should buy it.
It could be worse, Nick. The guy coulda' heard a single song and hopped on a bandwagon that left without him ten years earlier.

Hippies...

There was a time when I thought "Sing Loud Sing Proud" was one of the greatest albums ever recorded. I was fifteen.

Today, I like Flogging Molly better, but the guys are talented at what they do.

And now that you're "all growns up", it's so beneath you...

I'm just playin'.

They're just so goddamn lucky the Sox won it all the year they recorded that damn Tessie song.

I love DKM. And Flogging Molly.

You know what, this post adds nothing to this conversation. I'm done.

My best memory of these guys was seeing them open for the Mighty Mighty Bosstones in Boston. Had to be 10+ years ago and there were only four people in the band then.
Great show, but I understand only the bass player is left from that original line-up.
Yeah, they always were a fun show. I saw them back at the Blackthorne (RIP) in the Bronx years ago.... had a blast. Never was too big a fan of their music, but they're good for what they are. Who woulda thought that The Departed would be the thing to make them big?

yeah Mike the old lead singer has a band called Street Dogs who are pretty good. all the years I lived in new england and I never got to go to one of their St. Patrick's Day shows. someday I guess. good band.

Meh. I'd listen to Flogging Molly over Dropkick Murphys anyday. Don't get me wrong, "I'm Shipping Up to Boston" is a great song, but punk just doesn't do it for me.
Dropkick is amazing live. One only has to listen to "Live on St. Patrick's Day" to get a feeling for how raucous their live shows can be. And Street Dogs is pretty great, too.

I've loved these guys since I first discovered them in high school, and they've opened the doors to a whole wealth of smaller Irish punk bands, all of 'em taking the music in different directions. If you like Dropkicks, check out these guys:

-Neck
-Finn's Fury
-Flatfoot 56
-Brace Yourself Bridget
-Frank Mackey & The Keltic Cowboys
-Greenland Whalefishers
-Keltic Fire
-The Biblecodesundays
-The Fisticuffs
-The Rye
-The Peelers
-Potcheen Folk Band
-and most obviously, The Real McKenzies

I never listen to the radio at all, but after The Departed how much has public exposure for DKM gone up? Do they get any play on the radio or on TV at all? I've talked to a lot of other Celtic rock bands who're still indie who are hoping that the Dropkicks will break through the barrier into popular culture and open up all sorts of doors for the other Celtic rock bands, maybe start a new trend. Is there any possibility of this happening in your opinions?

Everyone in this thread should be listening to The Pogues right now.
I haven't heard them on the radio. Then again, I dont listen to music radio much.
Yeah, my love for the Pogues is well documented around here. The guys practically invented "celtic punk."
I figure most people in this thread HAVE listened to the Pogues - not sure what the point of that statement was (not you, Rath - the guy above you).

Everybody in this thread should be listening to Leftover Crack...
leftover crack sucks. way to portray one image and live by another...fuck that band and all the other fake crustie bands.

bring back choking victim.
But Choking Victim was...for the most part...Leftover Crack...
