I guess Capcom got their way. So now all we need is Konami to win their war against Kojima to make MGS4 multiplatform.

Capcom’s "Devil May Cry 4" Goes Multiplatform! Mega-hit Title set for PLAYSTATION® 3, Xbox 360™ and PC!

Capcom Co., Ltd., a world-wide leader in the gaming industry, is proud to announce the development of "Devil May Cry 4" for the PLAYSTATION®3, Xbox 360™ and PC platforms.

"Devil May Cry" is a series of popular, stylish action games, with a cast of unforgettable characters. Since the release of the original "Devil May Cry" in 2001, the series has shipped 6,800,000 copies as of December 31st, 2006, proudly making it one of Capcom's flagship titles. The series appeal is not limited to games; an animated TV series to be broadcast on Japan's WOWOW network is slated to air Spring 2007. The latest iteration, "Devil May Cry 4" will take advantage of each platform's hardware strengths to achieve the most stunning visuals in the series to date, and the introduction of a mysterious new protagonist will keep the action fast and fresh. Even before its release, "Devil May Cry 4" has been met with tremendous anticipation, as fans patiently endured long lines at TOKYO GAME SHOW 2006 for the chance to play the demo. "Devil May Cry 4" will be released simultaneously for the PLAYSTATION®3 and Xbox 360™ platforms.

Capcom was among the first software developers in the world to make games for the next-generation consoles, and those efforts have been met with great success. In addition, Capcom's use of an integrated development environment is one of the many methods being employed to improve efficiency and help take advantage of the cutting-edge functionality in next-generation systems.

Capcom will continue to produce titles that appeal to users while pursuing a multiplatform strategy to help enhance profits.

Thank you Joe Pesci for answering my prayers.

Is it wrong that I get a twinge of satisfaction when I see another Sony exclusive go multiplatform?

Metal gear! metal gear! metal gear! metal gear!

YES YES YES. If MGS4 goes multi (and there is tons of buzz that it will) it will be sony's death knell.

.... and it won't happen, since 'nameless Capcom director' will be far more easy to sway than Hideo Kojima, who's still got a bug up his ass after the Substance debacle.

not a huge fan of the series (liked 1 never played 2 and stopped playing 3 because the voice acting offended my sense of hearing) but I guess this is great for people that want it, but I'm interested in MGS4 coming to 360 and if I have to buy DMC4 just help the sales so MGS4 does come I'll gladly do my duty.

many sources are saying Konami is forcing Kojima to do the port.

Exactly. Everyone said Itagaki's babies would never be on another system.

It doesn't seem to come down to a director's wishes anymore- it simply is not cost effective to make a system exclusive game. I'm sure Konami's Board of Directors has come to that realization. My only hope is that games going multi-platform doesn't backfire (i.e. Sony's PS3 launch titles). If MGS4 or Tekken 6 will suck ass compared to the PS3 versions (which, in all honesty, there should be no reason for), then I say keep them.

I just hope Dead Rising stays exclusive. I doubt it will, though.

I don't think that Konami is in any position to "force" Kojima to do anything, especially after what happened with the Xbox Substance port.

Itagaki's stance has always been "I go where the more powerful technology goes", so him changing allegiances is no surprise. You're probably thinking more about Mikami and the "Capcom 5".

I'm no expert but I think Konami owns MGS and the publishing rights etc. not Kojima.

I thought the main reason that Kojima Productions was started in the first place is so Kojima could gain autonomy from the Konami collective (a collective which generated the vastly inferior Metal Gear 1 & 2 ports for the NES and the lackluster Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance Xbox port). With a track record like that, Konami would be fools to tempt fate with another failure again.

I am praying for MGS4 to go the 360 as I really don't want to shell out 700 bucks just to play MGS4.

I already have a 360 which has plenty of great games, streams my music, oh and didn't cost 600 dollars for a clunky piece of hardware.

Also reading the DMC4 blurb...so sounds like it isn't Dante in the new game....

Good news.

frankly as a consumer, I am happy to see this.

The idea of console exclusives from third parties is pretty ridiculous given the financial make up of the game industry. Dropping tens of millions of dollars into a AAA title only to release it on one platform (unless its a Halo type title) just doesn't make good business sense anymore. All the former PS exclusives sold like gangbusters once they were eventually ported to the xbox.

At least for Capcom and Konami, this seemed inevitable.

As far as the console wars go, if you want exclusives, it should be from a first party POV. No more of this bullshit back-end dealing with companies over exclusivity.

I don't necessarily care for Devil May Cry, but I see this as a huge win for gamers everywhere.

I remember hearing some where the MSG may get ported because of the PS3 isn't selling well, and the only way that the only way Konami could make a profit off MSG is to have it go mutli.

Kojima even said himself that MGS4 could easily be done on 360 and the only reason he chose to go with the PS3 is that he got to "touch it first". He didn't like the fact that MS gave American developers first dibbs on dev kits when it first came out. While this may be true, it is a stupid reason to hold a grudge. MS would give dev kits to american developers first because the kit language was probably already native in english then had to be translated. Anyway, you dont see us hitching a fit over games being released in Japan first because we understand that is where they are made and then need to be translated. Kojima has gotten a big head at his age.

Don't know where you got that from. I've always read the main reason he chose PS3 was that he felt that the series was more closely associated with the Playstation brand, and he doesn't want to do a port, even if its feasible, because he'd rather make specific games taking advantage of each machine's hardware strenghts.

That's exactly what's been said.

By Ryo ? I kinda fail to see how what I said is the same as Kojima being pissed at Microsoft for not getting his devkits earlier...

How sad is it that 90% of a conversation in a DMC thread is about MGS? How sadder is it that I didn't feel like typing out the full names of the franchises?

And PS3 supporters continue with the rending of garments. and the gnashing of the teeth.
