Gta Iv - Page 28

Would it have killed them to make the tires a little stickier? In a game where you can roll your car over a cliff, get ejected through the windshield, and still jog away, why the aribtrary realism?

So, anyone find out how to (Clive Barker's) undying get from the heli to the top of the "Empire State Building?" Those multi games turned hellish when everyone just started shooting rockets at each other.

Three Leaf Clover is infuckingcredible. I'm keeping a save right before it.

Yesterday I learned that alcohol seems to have absolutely no adverse effects when driving a motorcycle. There's a lesson I inted to apply to my everyday life... Thanks, GTA!

Spoiler ahead

I'm at the 40% completion mark

Am I the only one sorry to have saved Dwayne instead of Playboy X? What a whiny little bitch!
Yeah I saved him too.
Huh. I beat that mission tonight too. And yeah, I let Dwayne live too.

I regret nothing. I felt for that guy almost from the start. Hated Playboy from the second I met him. That kill was so very satisfying.

If only such an option existed for Brucie.

So, to be perfectly blunt....Kate's never putting out, is she?

Doubt it. I got 100% fondness with her and she just kept turning me down. Honestly, you want someone you can take out and nail 24/7, go on LoveMeet and date LawChick, aka Kiki Jenkins. She sends panty pics on your cell phone, she wants the beef injection so much. And, as Kevin K noted on the last page, if you get her fondness to 100%, her "favor" for you is awesome.

I'm a nerd for noticing this, but in the internet cafe, the song that is playing when you enter is Oxygene Part IV by Jean Michel Jarre. Go me.

I've seen people mentioning the drug delivery missions for Jacob and the car delivery email missions for Brucie but what are the assassin missions?

Who do you do them for?

I did the opposite. Figured that Playbox X had the money, plus I'd been working for him longer. But as soon as you finish the mission, he calls you up and says that since you killed his boy, he can't be seen with you any more, and won't give you any more missions. Fucking hell.
The Snow Storm mission is kicking my asshole.
The blacked out text is hugely appreciated, but a slowpoke like me would never insist on it. I'll probably stay outta here til I do some major catch-up this weekend.

Knocked off the motorcycle chase in two tries last night, taking out two of the Lost goons by sailing my bike into em. Same with Brucie's Easy As Can Be mission, which I only messed up the first time cause I ended up having to shake cops as well as the shooters. Then beat the warehouse shootout on the first go. I think I'm finally gettin the hang of this. Multiplayer soon.

The numbers are in. 6 million copies sold. 3 million on the first day.

Motherfuck Halo 3.
Jesus Christ monkey balls!
And yet, the stock barely moved.

Fuck this.
There are a number of reasons why this success wouldn't affect the stock price. Perhaps the success of GTA IV could have already been priced into the stock or maybe most stock holders would RATHER that Take Two get acquired by EA than continue to exist as a separate company (they see the glory that would be sports franchise monopoly) and I'm sure many more.

The important thing is that GTA is still obviously a big moneymaker and that we'll keep getting good games like this.
God damn, that is a big number.

I like to think Take Two's asking price just went waaaaay the fuck up. I know it's inevitable, but I rather enjoy having companies that aren't owned by EA. Give it a few years, though. Aah well.
To be fair to Halo 3, it did over half as much business on a single console, so it's no sales slouch.

Still, impressive.
Sure, i'm all for this.

I was just kinda riding on the stock rising after the results were in.

Btw, EA said that their offer is 25.8 or something per share, the stock is currently at 26.3 or something. So it shouldn't go up with EA. Unless they make a serious change to their offer.
I followed Alex on that spoiler text. My motivation: No Country for Old Men.
Hot damn those sales numbers are impressive. Good for Take Two and Rockstar. I love seeing quality games sell so well.

Is anyone else surprised at how quiet the media is about this game's "controversy" compared to earlier GTA games? I'm pleasantly surprised by the low uproar...althought I'd bet money it comes up during the presidentail election discussions this fall.

Last night I suffered my first lockup while playing. Was driving a stolen van for a mission when the screen went static and no button pushing could get me out. Had to shut down the entire console and reboot. I really hope this is a one time event, I was so pissed because I was so close to finishing the mission.

Tell that to Glenn Beck:

Also, my game's frozen only once: I had my IPod plugged in, and was switching songs at a red light, a cab rear ended me, the game stood still. So, I'm pretty sure it's not the game itself having glitches, just that, every once in a while, the game does shudder under its own weight.

Have you had any luck dating someone else other than LawChick or SoboHo? I dumped them to try to date other girls and see what their special phone calls are but I can't select anyone else on LoveMeet.
I haven't tried it yet, but there's apparently another girl you can date through Craplist.
Forgive me if this is well known - didn't see it on the last few pages.

Handy Tip - Once you have a friend's like level where you need it (to unlock their special ability) you never have to do anything with them again. When they call you to do something, say yes. Then call back and cancel your plans. Their like level won't budge. Now you can go on killing people instead of playing darts.
That's a great tip! Thanks

Yeah, I saved him too because he seemed sympathetic instead of just pathetic. I loathe doing activities with him.

That is good to know. I'm getting pissed of all these phone calls from people while I'm on a mission and I have to decline. Then I get neg rep with them.

Does he give you any missions? Or any unlocks like the cab or guns?

You can ring him up and he will send a car load of heavies to back you up. Pretty cool.

Also, once you've got Playboy's Apartment, go to the wardrobe in it and one of the outfits is the one the bloke from GTA 3 wore! Looks pretty smart on Niko
.
This may be a dumb question and I am not all that far into the game...just capped Vlad in fact.

When the hell can do you start the on line dating? I know some of them are on other islands but there were a couple on Broker that I can't date either. When I click on them the button goes pink and nothing happens..no promt of any kind.

Info?

Also has anybody tried any of the cheat codes for weapons yet? I'm hesitant to do so because I guess you won't get many of the achievments.

Heh, I have, but only to go nuts on the cops. There's a crane that you can climb and shoot them with near-impunity. Then they climb the ladder and try to take you out.

PS3 multiplayer anyone?
Given that I am far, far behind you guys in terms of gameplay (I managed to make a completely embarassing rookie mistake and erase all of my game progress), I have a question inspired by GTA IV 's success I'd like you folks to weigh in on. GTA III came out in October 2001. While in some respects it's similar to a few earlier efforts (the 1990 Terminator game, Freelancer, and I suppose Mario 64 come to mind), I think it basically invented the third person "sandlot" genre. Particularly when it comes to realistic, populated worlds.

Here we are seven years later. And the genre is still, basically, Grand Theft Auto. Why the hell is that? This latest iteration moved six million units in less than a week. IIRC, it earned something like half a billion dollars in a matter of hours. Zork spawned a thousand text adventure games. After Wolfenstein and Doom, we saw an explosion in first person shooters. I'm not sure of the first RTS action game, but whatever it was, I'm sure there were hundreds of copycats that appeared within the following seven years.

So what's going on with the sandbox genre? Off the top of my head: Crackdown, Saints Row, Mercenaries, Just Cause, True Crime, Godfather ... and maybe Assassin's Creed. Those are the only other examples I can think of. That's a pretty mixed bag in terms of quality and economic success. Where are the rest of them? Why haven't we seen an explosion in offerings by now?

I can think of a few reasons why Grand Theft Auto is not only the best game in town, but pretty much the only game. None of them are wholly satisfying. I'd love to hear you guys weigh in.

1.)The games are too difficult to make; people who can, already work for Rockstar.
2.)Seven years is not enough time for a game genre to start blossoming, as fewer and fewer games are released each year.
3.)There are tons of sandbox offerings: they're called role playing games.
4.) The Grand Theft Auto series is so effing dominate people don't want to invest the capital to compete; it would be like launching a competing football franchise against Madden.
5.)I'm inventing a phenomenom that doesn't exist, as separating GTA style games from other RPG/adventure games is a false dichotomy. GTA does things differently, it isn't anything new.

Any other reasons? What's going on here? It seems like the market for this type of game can sustained more than one, maybe two titles a year.

GTA's influence can be seen almost everywhere. The term "sandbox" is kind of flimsy, as the big-map-mission-to-mission style of game is really booming right now in games we wouldn't necessarily deem 'sandbox.' See Oblivion, Dead Rising, and maybe even Mass Effect. All of your points are valid, but I think people have taken the GTA formula and disguised it in creative ways to profit from it without competing with the granddaddy.
I'm so hung up on getting on with the story that I haven't done any of the Brucie or Jacob side missions. Is there any marked point where you can't do them anymore (aside from completing the story, obviously)?
Any tips on getting a 6 star wanted level? Highest i can get is 5 stars, and thats even after killing half the LCPD along with a few of their choppers.
Have you unlocked all the islands? The easiest way is to just go to an island you haven't unlocked yet.
RE: Overlord's post

IIRC, despite a wave of negativity, Assassin's Creed is the only one in that list that sold REALLY well. Coincidentally, that game took about three years to make, which helps prove Overlord's point, I guess.
I don't think most "sandbox" games try to go as in depth as GTA. The whole Internet and tv thing in GTAIV? Yeah, I don't see any other game planning on copying that.

At this point, it's the original. Everything else has to be different, because it's never going to beat the original. Even if various aspects of a game are better, the whole is still owned by GTA in terms of quality.

And when you don't have all the islands unlocked its a bad idea to try swimming away from the cops.

GTA has good stories to back up the play, something the copycats don't get.

Re; Overlords question.

There have also been the superhero ones, Spiderman and the Hulk: Ultimate Destruction (or whatever it's called).

The Hulk one I actually really enjoyed because you could really destroy lots of things. If only you could destroy buildings (Rampage style) that game would have been perfect. I understand the same team are making a game called Prototype which looks promising.

It probably is too much of an investment. The level of detail in Liberty City is staggering. It's like trying to compete with Warcraft in the MMO market. (Tangent: A GTA MMO would be interesting if they could balance it right).

Too much investment with too much competition.

RE: Overlord --

Loads of pseudo-sandbox games proliferated between '02 and '05 or so. But ask yourself this: how many of the non-Infocom text adventures can you name? Probably none, because they were all forgettable shit. Same for most of the so-called GTA clones. Plenty of games appropriated wholesale chunks of Rockstar's formula, but until recently, almost none did so well enough to be remembered.
