Same here. I was thinking of going for the Special Edition, but after watching the videos that Alex posted on the front page, I realized that I don't need any of that stuff. Just the game. Although I wouldn't mind the game in the metal case, to go with Gears and Halo 3.

Just wanted to let everyone know that this thread: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthre...284473&page=22 has a ton of videos up. Non too spoilery though.

Also there is a live feed(though I can't find the link) of someone playing it.
You think any of you have got it bad? I'm off to Orlando for a week - the day after it's released.

I must block it out.
Guys, it's forty to sixty hour videogame. Starting a day or two, or a week, late isn't that big of a deal. Or is everyone that keen on multiplayer?

I hate paying sales tax and am really lazy, so I ordered it off Amazon.com.
It's more of a "I know it's available to play but I can't" thing for me.

Though having time to learn the layout of the city right away would help quite a bit for multiplayer, I imagine.
Had a quick look at some of those videos and the games industry is fucked.

Not only does Grand Theft Auto 4 have you murderising a substitute for Jack Thompson but the knife work being shown on Pedestrians was really fucking brutal. Not overly gory, just really clinical and sort of detached, it actually made me kind of uncomfortable just watching it.

I thought the same thing Spike. I was watching some videos and it looked a hell of lot more realistic than the PS2 versions ever did.

I have no idea if this was on purpose, but on the live feed Niko just surrendered to the cops and one of em shot him point blank in the skull, killing him.
To most sane rational people, this game is proof that Jesus Christ exists, and channels his love through Rockstar Games.

The mainstream media, on the other hand, are gonna have 622 Broadway surrounded by Thursday ready to lynch those motherfuckers and their immediate families.

Oh I can't wait. In previous GTAs my favorite pastime was slaughtering pedestrians and blowing up cars until the cops brought me down. In real life, I'm not at all a violent and/or aggressive person, but there it is.

And the video game industry is far from fucked. In recent months, as the U.S. economy has continued its slow spiral down the toilet, the VG world has been one of the few bright spots. This is an industry that rakes in millions. No one is going to shut down retail coin like that, not when our economy most needs it. There will be the usual chorus of whiny parents (and let's agree with them on this point: children should not be playing GTA) but the game and the industry will continue to thrive uninterrupted. There's too much $$ to be made.

As... I think it was Dellamorte? Pointed out to me in the Summer blockbuster thread, depressions always result in increased spending on entertainment.

But you missed the point, the industry isn't fucked financially - it's deeper than that when something can make violence this personal.

Still, I'm not watching the gameplay footage and it might be nothing different than i've already seen - I just think you took "fucked" in the wrong context

The way this country's headed, I'm going to make sure I get this game opening day, before Rockstar gets Guantanamo'd.

Yeah, the improvement in graphics is going to be the big mental hurdle for me. I love being a complete sociopath in the games mostly because the graphics are so garbage that it looks like a cartoon. Watching some of the animation and visuals in a video last night, it was a little too realistic. I know this is just a stupid mental block I have but there will be a weird adjustment for me.

As for the cop assassination thing, I saw the reverse in a video last night. Nico was on a pedestrian-stabbing rampage and eventually got collared. But at the point where it usually says "Busted" something happened where Nico hit or killed the cop and started booking it again.
A figurative assault on Jack Thompson and dirty cops? I didn't think my expectations could soar any higher.

Oh i see. Fucked as in "fucked up" - depraved. Fucked is one of those words that has so many meanings. When, even with that meaning I have to disagree. People have enjoyed violent entertainment since our earliest days. I hardy think violence, no matter how "realistic", is unique to video games.

And video games' success is unrelated to any depression we might be in - they're been highly profitable for many years, even back when we were doing well. Video games have outgrossed Hollywood for many years now.
I don't think he means fucked as in depraved. I think he mean's, this game is taking clear shots at the guy giving the gaming industry the biggest grief for it's violent content.. something that isn't going to go over well.
Oh I see. Damn internet with its lack of vocal inflection.

Anyway, what with the election, the war, the economy, etc., I hope people will realize we have many other problems our government should be focusing on. But I'm probably being too hopeful.
Haha. What country are you living in. Haven't you heard? Video Games are the downfall of society man! KIDS DON'T KNOW REALITY FROM VIRTUAL REALITY!
Our nation is about to be plunged into a nightmare of children dying from suspended-steel-girder-knife-fight-related accidents, and stolen helicopters.

It's not "cool," kids!

It is ridiculous simulating the death of one of the biggest anti gaming advocates in a game that is going to be under intense media scrutiny.
And yet, it won't stop the game one bit.
What specifically did you see regarding Jack Thompson? How is it being simulated? I can't look at that stuff during work.
Fuck Jack Thompson. People are already coming around to the fact that he's a clueless fucking media whore. Fuck him.

Free publicity really. Rockstar knows exactly what they are doing, and they haven't hid this mission. It was actually one of the very first missions discussed during previews.

We might know he's clueless but major media still seems to think he's okay. It will be entertaining but I don't think it's the best idea to be poking him with pointy sticks.

Personally, I hope he never goes away. I'd rather his fool-ass be the guy spearheading the "Games are the Debbul" movement than someone who is competent.
Well the Florida Bar Association has or had him under review or something. I don't really remember the specifics, but I do remember him being scrutinized by people other than video game nerds.
I'm pretty sure Thompson has had his bar licence yanked who knows how many fuckin times. Not only for video games but for some nasty shit against Janet Reno.
Honestly, no one takes this guy serious anymore. Except maybe Fox news.
Well, my plan to get the PS3 version got shot down today when I had 2 friends both pressure me to get the 360 version so I can play online with them. Annoying. And apparently I will be picking it up at the midnight release from Best Buy. Damn you peer pressure.
Careful, nachos: There's three bridges in Liberty City your friends can coerce you to jump off of.
Yeah, next it'll be "if you want to be cool you'll let us repeatedly knife you on this girder."

heheh, bailing out of cars just got alot more entertaining...

I've put my 360 at risk because of the exclusive add-ons, so you're not the only one to buckle.
Dammit... I just went and ordered a copy of the game for PS3. Thought it might be good to try and get one before any possible backlash sets in, not that I think there's anything to worry about in the long run. But I'm paranoid. That's how I roll.

New mini-game. BOWLING FOR PEDESTRIANS.
Man, I don't even really care for GTA, and that .gif makes me want to rent it just so I can play multiplayer and either a) have head-on crashes with you guys or b) bail out and try to bail into one another.
Once again I'll say that Euphoria engine is going to rattle a lot of cages, that bail out just looks ridiculously brutal (and awesome).

This was the first thing to come to mind. New Free Mode game!

Looking at that vid, I hope this means another creative way of taking out your targets. Literally bowl into them.

Hmm... come release day I'm going to end up working long and late so I doubt I can pick it up that day. I only pre-order if I'm going to get the limited or special editions and I don't see anything special there so I just want the game. You guys think they're going to overstock the game in the stores like they did with Halo 3? It may be the only way I'll be able to pick up my copy the next day.

You do realize you've posted nearly 20 times in this thread, right?

I've been doing this since Vice City, but especially in San Andreas, where I would defend my territory by just rolling into a crowd of ballas, then take out the remainder by blowing the gas tank with a rifle. So much fun.

I'm wondering how much damage these new bail outs will deal, though. That just looks painful as hell.

I still like to partake in the conversation. Just because I don't like a game doesn't mean I still don't find it interesting why others do, or might like certain aspects of it.
I went yesterday and did the pre-order at Best Buy. I figure it'll probably save me a good 5 minutes on Monday night so why not.

One of my friends did the evil thing and downloaded the game (though he's definitely buying it next week). Said its pretty awesome, but the new tweaks on driving ("they tried to make it to realistic" he says) will take some getting used to.

It's not a big deal or anything, but almost all of your posts in this thread are you hemming and hawing about how you don't like the GTA franchise. It's a conundrum.

I like TV and all, but I'm not going into the American Idol thread and post a dozen times about how I just don't get it.

It's not all negative. Honestly, if I wanted to come into a thread just to act like a child and hate on every aspect, I could do a far worse job. There's a small bit of interest in GTAIV (very small) and it's curiosity that brings me in here.

This has gotten me more excited about this game than any trailer I've seen so far. I want this weekend to end already.
