El-P - I'll Sleep When You're Dead

I know most of the readers on here are rock fans, but for the handful of rap listeners on here, there's no better album being released today than El-P's first album in near 5 years. I picked it up earlier today and have been enjoying it quite a bit. Stand out tracks right now include "Run the Numbers", "Flyentology", and "Drive" and it's a pretty good album overall. Here's hoping that it has longevity Fantastic Damage had. Anyone else pick this up today?

I don't like Funcrusher Plus as much as most do, but FD was great, and I like his production a lot. I'm really looking forward to hearing this disc based on everything I've read so far.

The production here is as great as you've come to expect from him. His rap style is a bit more in tune with the beat, which means there's fewer songs where it sounds like he's just completely trashing a room like the first track on FD, but it's still good. One thing I am thankful for is the fact that the lyrics are printed in the book. I bought FD on iTunes, and I could never fully understand what he was saying.

Great album, noone out there like him. Anytime I listen to his tunes I always discover something new, whether from the production or a lyric I could never make out before. (I find listening with my eyes closed helps!) His rantings on our times is darkly humorous as ever.

EDIT: I think Habeas Corpses (Draconian Love) is the best track.

EDIT EDIT: But then thats followed by the brilliantly disturbing The Overly Dramatic Truth and Flyentology, truly has longevity and surpasses Fantastic Damage in my opinion.

I would agree, though I think if Dear Sirs was a bit longer, it'd take the cake.

Ah, cool. Thanks for the heads up. I will try to pick this up soon. I enjoy the man's work. Do y'all have the CAGE album he did?

Just got the CD yestersday. Man, it's fuckin' amazing and actually seems to get better as the CD progresses. I can tell that soon I'll be be preferring this to Fantastic Damage. Anyone know if he did all the production on this himself?

Yeah, he produced the whole thing himself.

Does anyone know where the quote from Habeas Corpses "Damn it Lindt, Fire your weapon" came from? I swear I've heard it before, but I can't quite put my finger on it.

I have been a hip hop fan of production for a while and El-P is quickly becoming my favorite producer. He never just throws something together with no thought put into it.

The whole album is great. I absolutely love the way certain beats change and sometimes never go back. Even though everything is mechanical and futuristic sounding there is certainly an organic nature to his beats. That MF is bad ass....not just good, bad ass.

Easily his best production since The Cold Vein. And his MC skills have caught up at last. I never doubted him, just FD was a little front loaded. He seemed to run out of steam near the last half. Kinda just spitting out.

I like Fantastic Damage better, but this is a strong album all the same.
