Deus Ex trouble

I was feeling nostalgic, so I installed Deus Ex onto my laptop. Only thing: It runs way too fast. Dialouge isn't given time to go through before it's cut off by the next piece of dialouge, it's all just much too fast. I imagine this has something to do with my laptop being a show-off and kicking the ass of my favorite FPS.

Any way to help this, or am I just going to have to develop ultra-amazing skillz and reflexes? Not playing Deus Ex is not an option.

Last time I had this problem, mostly with old dos games, I found some programs that can slow down your PC. I can't remember the names now but you should be able to Google them pretty easily.

Yeah, I'm blanking on the names of any specific programs, but I remember doing this back with Windows 98 to play some games I had from the early 90s.

The "slow down" programs or whatever they were usually did a pretty good job. Things were still sometimes a little fast, but at least they were readable.

If you haven't found anything later, maybe I'll get a chance to search around when I have more time.

Do you have a Core Duo processor? One explanation that came up was to turn off one of the processors:

"You need to right click on "My Computer" -> Properties -> Advanced -> Startup & Recovery;

There, you will find a button named "edit" - by pressing it you can edit the Windows Boot.ini file manually.

at the end of the line add the following code:

/numproc=1

save the Boot.ini file and reboot"

(Sounds kind of scary to me, to be honest.)

Other possible solutions were to run in Win98 compatibility mode, and/or turn off CPU Power Management on your laptop. The problem seemed to come up a lot but most of the solutions linked to dead threads.
