Watching highlights of a meaningless Royals/Rangers game just won't be the same without this insane old man.

This thing felt like it ran forever. I never quite understood the appeal overall. The play by play was never that good but usually the closing story was.

Wow he looks like hell.

I recall the Sports Machine being the first sports show that gave you the outcome BEFORE showing you the highlights . . . "The Mets beat the Braves to go up 3 1/2 in the NL East! Now let's look at the video, courtesy of . . ."

He went to the same dentist as Pat Healy.

When I was younger, I always wondered why they gave a sports show to the dude who sang "Faith".

Especially, a bizarre ass one that usually aired after "It's Showtime at the Apollo".

Needless to say, I grew to appreciate the Sports Machine and the aforementioned rambling Rangers coverage.

Can you believe how ahead of his time he was in 1984?

Damn, even with ESPN and 24 mind-numbing hours of sports on 16 different channels I'll miss the crazy old bastard. There was something comforting about catching his show late at night on the weekend.

I hadn't heard this was the last week until I caught the ep. It bothered me more than I thought it would. Maybe it's just the passage of time. But so many shows have cribbed his things like the plays of the month.

And he did honor pro wrestling, bull riding, and NASCAR before it was cool...

Vaya con dios, padre.
