I know that this is the spot for one-time self-promotions, but if any of the mods have a problem with the thread, please close it. I have too much respect for the site and my fellow chewers to intentionally create a rotten thread. Having said that...
I'm a volunteer coach for the varsity golf team at my local high school (Alcona County), and budget cuts are threatening the life of the team once again. In order to raise funds and protect the program, we've set up a raffle for a new Nike driver. We're trying to sell five hundred tickets at ten bucks a pop, and I thought that mentioning this on the internet would get the word out to a much larger audience than what I can do locally.
Other Michiganders on the boards can vouch for the smallness of Alcona County, and also the heavy poverty and unemployment. I look at this team as a way to give back some pride to the kids that play, and also for a way for some of the better players to be able to go on to college instead of sticking around here after graduating and waiting for a job at the tool & die shop to open.
