Brackets and revised rules are up.

Boo! David Addison is way better than Hallenbeck. If the guy was so good than why did his daughter have to save him? He had to have the bad guy spell it out for him to figure it out. Poor choice.

I thought Spade would've been a favorite for the semifinals. Upset city, in the first round no less.

Anya: I stand by my choice. I knew it might be a bit controversial (as I know some people like Moonlighting), but Hallenbeck is a tough motherfucker.

You, on the other hand thought Mills turned into a pussy, I don't think so. "Kill my wife? I'll blow your brains out!" *BLAM!* Plus, cheating is what a good detective does. But I can't give you shit for choosing Clouseau, it is a solid pick.

I wrestled with that one, I really did. Sorry.

The catatonic state in the police car is what bugs me. Bad shit always happen to movie/tv cops and the move on. No problem with the killing.

I was rooting for Munch to make it to at least the semis, but I approve of the Briscoe pick wholeheartedly. Fun fact, as you probably know, but one of Munch's ex-wives left him for Briscoe. Also, Lennie whipped the shit out of Munch in pool.

Glad to see Marlowe beating out Gittes -- of the two big noir detectives, I prefer to him to Sam Spade by leaps and bounds. I think Chandler's a better writer than Hammett, too. I love this description of L.A.: "Twenty-four hours a day somebody is running, somebody else is trying to catch him. Out there in the night of a thousand crimes people were dying, being maimed, cut by flying glass, crushed against steering wheels or under heavy car tires. People were being beaten, robbed, strangled, raped, and murdered. People were hungry, sick, bored, desperate with loneliness or remorse or fear, angry, cruel, feverish, shaken by sobs. A city no worse than others, a city rich and vigorous and full of pride, a city lost and beaten and full of emptiness."

Hopefully the Clive Owen movie will be much better than the upcoming Marlowe TV series.

Let's continue on with the picks folks.

I would have gone with Dignam over Foley, but I liked Gunderson over Howard.
Man! Dignam goes down. Really wanted to see him go far. Thought about picking that match up just to make sure he made it out of the first round, but decided against it. Foley was one I was considering nominating so I'm glad to see him moving on. But....completely disagree about Dignam not doing any detective work. I thought he did an excellent job tracking down Sullivan at the end and blowing his face, and in a sense, the case wide open.

I don't see how it was hard to track down Sullivan. He wasn't exactly hiding or anything. And he only knew about Sullivan being the rat because of the tapes sent to him. Still, I hate to see Dignam gone so early even though I'm the one that nominated Foley.

Actually, that's the way I figured it, which is why I thought he didn't do that much in the way of detecting. I'm not saying it was an easy pick, and I would have liked to see him move on to Round #2, but not against Foley. And I'm judging on the basis of BHC, not the sequels. #2 was an OK Tony Scott 80s actioner, but #3 sucks.

Sorry, I wasn't being serious about the detective work. I just thought he was a much better character. That's all.

Hey, I'm merely defending my pick, it's not that big a deal. I stand by my choice and the reasons for it, but I loved the character Dignam. It's always great to see an actor having as much fun with a part as Wahlberg seems to have.

I nominated David Addison in the first place, and even I have to concede that Hallenbeck is the winner. He really needed/deserved a whole franchise all to himself.
