Alright, depending on my mood T2 is my all time favorite movie. I have the UMD as well as a dvd of some sort. The problem is that my dad bought it when dvd's first came out, and he always used to throw away the cases and just keep his dvds in binders. Since then I've made sure he doesn't throw away cases. So yes, I have a T2 dvd, but...the completist in me wants a case. So here's the problem: I've heard the T2 eXtreme dvd only allows you to watch the extended cut on your tv. Is there any way around this, or should I just get an older, non-ultimate release?

The Extreme Edition is the extended version, with the theatrical version only viewable as a Windows Media file (with pretty steep system requirements).

The Extreme is pretty damn choice and with a PC you can actually get 1080p output. So yea that's rather nice.

Ultimate: 3 cuts: Theatrical, Special Edition, and Extended Special Edition (hidden). Amazingly exhaustive and thorough supplements on the 2nd disc. Shitty commentary made up of old interviews. OK transfer, maybe a little too much edge enhancement. Decent soundtrack, DTS.
Extreme: 2 cuts: Theatrical (hidden, "go down to "sensory control", then hit right 4 times on your remote. you then will be able to see the Theatrical Version of the movie"), Special Edition. Infinifilm-type thing contains some of the stuff on Disc 2 of the UE, but it's really not comparable at all. Great commentary w/ Cameron and Wisher. 2nd disc is mostly the HD version of the film. Better transfer, much more film-like, greater detail. Great Dolby Digital soundtrack (most say it's better than the UE's DTS).
I own both, but if you're going to get just one the EE is probably your best bet. The two scenes put into the third version are on the EE disc somewhere in that trivia track thing, and they're not worth putting in the movie anyway (the ending is ridiculous, horribly bad old-age makeup). The EE looks and sounds a lot better, and has a better commentary. Supplements-wise, though, the UE kicks its ass, even if the commentary sucks.

I second jduncan on this one. I own both, and the Ultimate has amazing supplements, but the Extreme has a better picture. Makes a difference when you watch it on our 110" theater here at work.
I will say, however, that the DTS track on the Ultimate Edition has much deeper extension and a more lifelike presentation. The DD track is pretty awesome, but the DTS is even awesomer. And 6.1 to boot!
If you are looking for something really limited edition, try to find the single disc version of the Ultimate Edition in the metal slipcase. It was one of the first DVD18 discs (18 GB DVD) to be produced, and they stopped pretty quickly due to compatability issues.

jduncan is right on the money.
I own both the UE and the EE and between the two, my T2 needs are perfectly covered. But if I had to pick one over the other, I'd have to go with the EE, despite major regret over not having the UE's vast supplements.

There was a lot of love put into the Ultimate edition. You could spend hours with the remote in your had. The metal cover was also a really nice touch.
I think it's pretty hard to find. It goes for about $20 used here, when you can find one.
The Extreme edtion can be found at Wal-Mart for $7.50. I need to pick it up sometime.

I have the single disc metal case Ultimate edition, and the original metal case Extreme Edition. I much prefer the Ultimate edition, for the supplements alone, and because it was the first version of the movie I got.

I have the metal-case Extreme Edition, and man that case loves to scratch the shit out of the DVD next to it on the shelf. Luckily the DVD next to it is Terminator 3.
