The hell? I typed UPPERCASE for that title! Damn board.

Well they certainly seem pleased with themselves.

At first, I was totally disgusted w/ the idea of yet another remake of this property. BUt, after reading that bit about the lifeboat full of children. . . kind of makes ya all tingly, doesn't it? It's gotta be worth at least a rental for that alone. And the shark tank thing. . . that's gotta get ya interested, at least.

I think the idea of going for humor is the right one. Still, it makes me sad that this movie will probably do better than Slither or Shaun of the Dead based on name recognition alone.

I say remake the shit outta this thing. I see no problem with jeopardizing the artistic integrity of a giant glob of flesh eating goo.

I needed a new sig. Thank you.

Which reminds me, I still need to see the Blob Remake...please don't hurt me...
are we going to actually see the dog die or the kids get eatin? probably not. one of the best things about the blob remake was when it ate that fucking kid! that was so awesome. of course you cant go wrong with Kevin Dillon licking that cop's face. crap, i just ruined the movie. no matter patrick ripoll, see it today. please for the love of god see it today.

Yikes. Along with The Thing and The Fly remakes, this is one of the best horror remakes out there.

Directed by A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors director, Chuck Russell (who strangely would later go onto directing The Mask and the Scorpion King).

I could always go for more BLOB, so why not? It'll probably play more like an unrelated sequel anyway from the sounds of it.

What the hell does Rosie O'Donnell have to do with ANY of this? And the Thing and Fly remakes are among the better ones out there, aren't they?

I do love Dream Warriors.

As mentioned in the CHUD Essentials thread, I've only seen the remake once--when I was eleven, watching it on Sci-Fi and thinking it was the 50's original. Let's just say I was scared of our bathtub drain for far longer than most mammals should be. I still haven't worked up the nerve to watch it again.

the blob was one of those movies that came on tv alot back in the day and i was too scared to watch it until a couple of years ago. its even better though when you watch the unedited for tv version. that blob tears it up.
I saw it in the theater. Nyahh-nyahh.

Let's not forget he gave us the film where Arnold has a railgun and James Cromwell blows the back of his head off.

Oh, thanks for posting the Babe: Pig in the City spoilers....scheesh.

Still, the idea of a pig armed with high tech weaponry sounds inticing....

I'd prefer a direct sequel to the remake. That cliffhanger ending was tres creepy.
The remake was awesome.

The return of CHUD's 100 best kills got me to throw the Blob remake into my netflix queue and after watching the film again, for the first time in years, I'm going to have to say that the phone booth death is still far and away my favorite scene and a far more impressive kill, IMO, than the "down the drain" scene.

I was surprised how well the remake held up after all these years.

Actually, I think the quarterback getting dissolved & trying to scream inside the thing as his girlfriend watches - just before his arm comes off in her hand - beats anything else in the film hands down. That scream is. . .just. . . .fucking. . . horrifying.

Honestly, the film is filled with wonderfully gruesome death scenes. To me, though, the thought of being trapped in a tight space where you can see the blob enveloping you ...shivers. Add to that, seeing the sheriff (who she was planning on meeting after she got off work) being dissolved inside the blob. It's a vicious little set-up.

I said it in the other thread, but the scene with the blob on the movie theater ceiling really freaked me out. When I was a kid I'd constantly check above me during a flick.

I do think that it did a better job of "creature sucks person through impossibly small area" effects than anything else, like The Raft in Creepshow.

The physical effects are still damn imprssive. Some of the visual effects don't hold up as well, though. I can see why the makers of the new film feel the need to throw hammerhead sharks into the mix. It's going to be pretty hard to outdo the kills in the remake.

Yeah, but have you all seen Beware of the Blob, aka Son of Blob, directed by Larry Hagman? Forget that remake, I'll take this one anytime.

I don't know if "Beware" was a remake so much, in that its script didn't follow the original Steve McQueen version at all. It's a really terrible movie, though. But, that having been said, at least one memorable scene was taken from it in the remake (the sink scene. . . sort of). And of course, the late, great Del Close played the reverend, which was sort of a call back to "Beware" (he played a victim in that). He wrote a really interesting, autobiographical (he swears) story for the old DC horror comic title 'Wasteland" about one particular day on the set. Anyone see that by any chance?
I haven't sen it since I was kid when it used to play on Chiller Theatre every once in awhile. I seem to remember it being a bit more campy and more of a comedy.

When you think about it, though, they never do kill the thing in any version. Aren't they all kind of clifhangers?

When you consider that even a microscopic piece of the blob could grow into a monstrous sized organism you have to wonder how thorough the clean-up process needed to be in the original and remakes. There was a lot of frozen blob crystals to account for at the end of the remake. I always imagined the army did a "Return of the living Dead" style nuking sometime after the credits rolled.

Yeah, and we saw how well THAT worked.

Irradiated blob fallout. Grows twice as fast with or without nourishment. There's your sequel.

I didn't say it was a remake, just a whole lot of early seventies fun. They stop the blob by luring it into a skating rink and turning up cold. Super.

I like the Chuck Russell Blob, just not as much as some of you. I think in the grand scheme of things its notable, and not terrible in any way, but I wouldn't put it on par with Carpenter's The Thing or Cronenberg's The Fly.
