Good lord - I love the Downhill Racer poster. Absolutely stunning. Movie, not so much. It does make a girl wistful for the times when you didn't have to have photoshopped floating heads.

Not an incredibly diverse group of posters. I'm not a huge buff on movie posters, but this list seemed pretty lacking. Still a fun read. Never saw that Downhill Racer poster.

Can we get a list made by someone that doesn't have an obsession with pulp?

Or who doesn't think the only movie made after 1979 is Silence of the Lambs?

Good to see The Man With the Golden Arm make the list. I've got that poster hanging up in my office.
Man With the Golden Arm is also my favorite opening credit sequence of all time. And it features my favorite dog-painting scene of all time.

Who wrote that tortured, awful copy?

But as the producer of The Thief of Baghdad, Fairbanks ensured his image would look good by asking illustrator Adrian Gill Spear to create the poster for the United Artists film.

The image of an embryo embaced the film's theme of human evolution and Kubrick had complete authority over the film's marketing.

The Forbidden Planet artwork (1956), with its decidedly menacing robot and definitely-not-Anne Francis damsel-in-distress, evokes and entire ethos of pulp sci-fi. The prominence of Robbie the Robot also tapped into 1950s hysteria by appearing like some piece of domestic gadgetry.

No wonder that magazine folded.

What no polish movie posters?

Where the dick is Frazetta's "The Gauntlet"?
and the Rocketeer teaser one sheat was the best deco poster ever
post #12 of 24
The Rocketeer poster is indeed one of my faves as well.

But I'll say this, man I miss actual artwork for posters.

This is not just a geek preference, but considering this image was tattooed on the corneas of almost every man woman and child in America in 1989, I'm a bit shocked that this did not make the list:

Indeed.

I've always loved this poster

I've always dug the hell out of this poster, so much that the one sheet hangs on my wall. It's a simple but bold image and sums up the movie pretty concisely and smacks of some of the best Spidey covers.

Damn...that's a fine poster.
This list was lame. I appreciate having respect for older films, but fact is, a lot of those posters just aren't that great. Posters may be one area where its okay to pay a little respect to the last 30 years of film.
How can Jaws not be on that list?
A few more obvious ones (or not) to consider...

This is an amazing and beautiful poster, however, very different I guess from what the list is trying to include.

I didn't find the poster that artistically creative, or really that it said anything of significant value about the movie.

Would be interesting if we had some comic book movie posters that actually leveraged the style of comics (not the Leefield kind of course).
Not the best collection in that link, but I agree that it's nice to see real artwork. Photoshop should be banned from posters.

I think I have to go with the 60s as my favorite decade for posters. There's a lot of neat comic book style art.

I'm rather certain that's it's a terrible fucking movie(IMDb has it at 3.6), but this video always taunted me with it's cool artwork when I was younger.
Def-Con 4 http://imdb.com/title/tt0087130/posters (I can't post the image from my photobucket for some reason, oh well)
My brother used to have a book chock full of art by this person, but I can't remember his name to save my life. Does anyone have any idea who painted this?

I remember looking at that poster on the boxcover of the VHS edition at the local mom and pop movie rental store when I was a kid. I always pestered my parents to let me rent it but they never did. I have always wondered if it was any good because the picture intrigued me
