It's like the videogame version of Heat!
It took me a day or two to notice this because I initially assumed it was some kind of Olympic sponsorship announcement, or something. But it's a full-fledged Wii and DS title being developed by Sega, and it also apparently marks Mario and Sonic's first co-appearance in a game. With Sega having latched onto Nintendo like a shark remora the last couple of years, I also assumed this had happened already. But anyway, apparently it's 1991 again and this is a big deal.
The actual game *does* seem like a bigger deal than I first thought--it's being developed by Sega but Miyamoto is "closely involved", presumably to make sure Mario doesn't catch any Sonic Team cooties. It sounds like it's a priority project for him. And if it's more or less a deeper version of Wii Sports, I mean, that's cool. And--AND--it's online!!! Huzzah!
