The Milwaukee Brewers 2007 Thread - Page 3

Fuck the Brewers. How is it that nobody seems to blame Ned Yost at all for this?

Oh and if the rumors of A-Rod heading to the Cubs come to fruition that the Brewers can considered themselves fucked for years to come.

Thank God for the resurgence of the Pack and the Badgers otherwise WI sports fans might have to jump.

Stick a fork in the Brewers.
I sure hope so. Get rid of Yost and sign an ace/ace-lite that will last a season. Zambrano gets crap for never winning 20(16 now 17) but Sheets has never won more than 12 games.

Hopefully the Cubs and Brewers will replace the Cards/Astros as the top 2 teams. So sick of those 2 the past 7 years. Plus Wrigley North are home games.

What was he supposed to do, get out there and pitch?

Questions about Yost aside, the Brewers look pretty freakin' good on the offensive side of things - Fielder, Braun, Hardy, and Weeks all return in the infield and Corey Hart and Bill Hall make up 2/3 of the outfield. Hall is the old man at 27 and the other guys are 25 or younger. Weeks and Hall were a bit disappointing this year, but both have terrific potential.

What really burned me up as the season went on was the train wreck the starting pitching became - Suppan, Bush, and Capuano were all terrible. At the very least, I expected solid-innings eaters, instead they were human lighter fluid. Sheets as usual was very good when healthy, but I don't know that you want to depend on him. Gallardo and Villanueva are promising for the future.

So, yeah, this year the playoffs aren't going to happen (barring what would be a thoroughly enjoyable collapse by the Cubs), but it's tough not to think/hope the youngsters will learn from this experience and grow into a true contender next year.

Right now, I just want them to go out, finish strong, and lock up a winning record.

Oh, don't get me wrong brother. I have high hopes for the offensive side of the ball. I just wonder about the pitching and Ned Yost's decisions with our pitchers.

Next year is promising but our fans and ball club should not get comfortable. Especially if the Cubs are bought out by Cuban and gain A-Rod.

We can get into the pitching some other time - suffice it to say that I THOUGHT going in that Suppan, Bush, and Cappy should be solid and Sheets his usual self. The first 3 melted down to varying degrees and Sheets WAS his usual self - spectacular when healthy but it looks like you just can't count on the guy.

And when 4/5 of your rotation goes *poof* that means you're getting into your bullpen for a lot more innings than most managers are comfortable with. Figure any starter worth his salt should be within a couple outs on either side of 7 innings on a nightly basis; down the stretch it was pretty rare to see a starter put in a full 6. You can certainly accuse Yost of having too quick of a hook, but I can't really blame the guy for losing faith in his starters.

You can't buy championships. The Cubs have been a notch below the Yankess/Red Sox/Mets for YEARS with nothing to show for it. Cuban spends money like it's on fire in his wallet for the Mavericks and all that has resulted in has been very expensive playoff flameouts. For that matter, just look at the Yankees' oft-bloated roster and what it's achieved in the past 6 or so years.

By and large I agree with you about Cuban...unless of course the Yanks make it to the Series and A-Rod continues to be a beast. Which is a question in and of itself.

Still as much as I love the Crew if the Cubs keep the team together and get A-Rod it would be hard to not be worried. Especially given Supan's future, ditto Sheets.

As a die-hard Cardinal fan I say the following...

PLEASE SWEEP US! I DON'T WANT THE FUCKING CUBS IN THE PLAYOFFS!

Well, it's pretty straightforward now. Win out and hope for the best.

Baseball Prospectus is going to end up looking pretty good on their preseason simulations this year.

There have been times I've wanted to strangle Yost earlier this season, but last night takes the cake. Getting a late rally started by the Cardinals by engaging in bullshit macho retaliation games when there's a pennant race to be more concerned about? And then leaving Turnbow in to walk in an insurance run and letting the game get completely away without bringing in your best reliever? What are you saving Cordero for?

The biggest problem was that the Brewers only scored 2 runs last night. I know that. That said, there's no excusing Ned Yost's inadequacies on display last night either.

Do you think they walk Pujols in that instance? In that case, it's a horse apiece. If Turnbow doesn't melt down, it's a non-issue.

LaRussa is a fucking douchebag anyway. I'd like to see someone pitch at HIS head as opposed to one of his players.
