Stone Cold (1991 - 6/12)
"I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself what a wonderful world.

I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself what a wonderful world.

The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shaking hands saying how do you do
They're really saying I love you.

I hear babies crying, I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll never know
And I think to myself what a wonderful world
Yes I think to myself what a wonderful world."

This summer just got a whole lot better. All my Christmas shopping will be done on 6/12.

I just hope this is the real thing this time.

Sweet. Any special features? What I'd give for a Bosworth commentary.

Not sure about any special features. I would bet against it but you never know. If BEST OF THE BEST 2 can end up with a fairly stacked disc then maybe we'll get lucky with this one.

I think this is the genuine article. Here's the pre-order link on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Stone-Cold/dp/...5440979&sr=1-2

What has me a little worried is that if you enter STONE COLD into IMDB there is another listing for something with that same title, also from 1991. It's a bunch of music videos from Ralph Tresvant. I doubt very much that something like that would get a DVD release. That's no knock on Ralph Tresvant. I've always held the belief that when it came to "New Edition," Bobby Brown and Johnny Gill were the Lennon and McCartney but Tresvant was easily the George Harrison.

In a nice turn of events a couple of enterprising souls started their own STONE COLD site not too long ago:

http://www.stonecoldmovie.com

Here is their mission statement:

Quote:
For some reason, the movie is unavailable to the general public. The VHS is out of print, and a DVD version has never been released in the US. This is abominable.

Our goal is simple: to show the Hollywood fat-cats that a demand exists. We want US release of a DVD culminating in a 20th anniversary (2011) cinematic re-release celebrating the greatest action movie of all time.
They're way ahead of the game. Check out their monthly clip section. Though they may have blown their load for April by picking perhaps the best part in the film.

Thanks for the link

Hey Moltisanti,

Thanks for the plug for our site. You're right about one thing; I was hesitant to put the best scene up for April but needless to say we were pretty excited when we heard the news the DVD was coming. So, let's give them what they want is what I figured. Let's face it, there are lots of other pretty good clips to put up. Also, once the DVD is released I have a feeling they might get Youtube to pull the clips - never mind the fact that this release needs all the publicity it can get.

Anyhow, you seem to be a huge fan and we'd like your input. We've got some pretty good stuff planned - unfortunately time to work on the site is short until May for me so it will be slow going. I've been in contact with someone who was in the movie and he has pledged all kinds of assistance so that will be good.

In the meantime enjoy the site and let us know what you think!

Rick

P.S. Keep using my audio file - right now bandwidth is not an issue. I love that clip.

Rick, keep up the great work with the site. Even though I was surprised to see that fantastic clip on there for April it hasn't stopped me from watching it, oh I don't know, like 80 times. Hopefully you will be able to keep adding scenes each month without getting them pulled.

Once STONE COLD hits stores you should consider devoting a subsection, or maybe a new site, to getting I COME IN PEACE released here on disc. It's from the same amazing director as STONE COLD.

Good luck with everything you're doing for the film.
You know, I haven't seen I come in Peace yet - but my buddy I run the Stone Cold site with is quite fond of it. I need to find a way to see it I guess.

Once Stone Cold is exhausted there are other movies I would consider giving similar treatment to:

Road House

The Warriors

Cool as Ice

I COME IN PEACE would be a natural because even though it involves science fiction, it still has a lot of the same insane qualities that make STONE COLD so watchable. You could envision them taking place in the same universe, a universe where Aryan biker gangs and alien drug dealers run wild and only cops who play by their own rules can stop them.

Plus, like STONE COLD, I COME IN PEACE pairs the hero with an uptight FBI agent for great comedic effect.

Looking forward to seeing what the cover art will be for the STONE COLD DVD. That's probably the next aspect of the release to look forward to.

DVD cover is a fake!

Sure, it looks pretty cool - The Boz reminds us a little of Jack Ryan on that cover - but check this out:

As you probably know, the Arkansas State Capitol was used to film the scenes at the Mississippi State Capitol. Well, neither of those are on the DVD cover. They've got the US Capitol on there!

I don't recall Joe Huff being placed in a sniper's scope either, but I suppose that is a visual metaphor.

Thanks for the tip on the update. I'll put the cover on the site tonight.

I like the black and white look, but yeah, having the capitol on there makes no sense at all.

Oh man, this is killing me. Look at this Ebay auction:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Stone-Cold-1991-...QQcmdZViewItem

In a little over 6 hours some poor fool is going to end up paying at least $31 (plus $4.50 shipping) for a VHS copy of the film. If only there was some way to prevent this madness. It's not even rewound!

This movie is freakin incredible. Heck I'd pay $31 for a VHS copy, and I'd buy the DVD... hmmm, I think I need help. Damn you Stone Cold!

buy low, sell high

I bought my VHS copy on a trip to Times Square back in 1997 or so. I only had a short time in NYC but one of my priorities at the time was finding Stone Cold. I think I paid $10. It is the polygram video release.

I just might be willing to trade it for two+ DVDs via eBay while the market is still there. But I would rather those bidders find my site to read the news about the pending release.

I was studying the DVD case again last night. While there are several explosions in SC, once again I think they used some "stock" car overturning explosion photos for the DVD cover.

And isn't that the helicopter from Black Hawk Down? (kidding)
I got my VHS copy in '99 from Our Price in Kendal. How English am I? It was about £3 (at the time, that was about $5) and its about the best purchase I've ever made.

I certainly don't blame the people who are selling off their VHS copies now. If Picasso came back from the dead and promised to start doing more paintings with much clearer images I would be tempted to sell off my other Picassos out of fear that the new Picassos would lower their value. Same deal with the STONE COLD tapes.

I would hate to see the look on the faces of the folks who are shelling out hefty amounts for the VHS tapes when they realize how cheap the DVDs are going to be sold for.
Too bad that contest that's on the tape, where you get to meet "The Bos" won't be on the dvd. That commercial was hilarious.

I don't recall that. Sounds like it would be a decent extra. I'd like them to throw on Bosworth's old "Anything less would be uncivilized" ad for Right Guard.
Incredible news! I just saw this now! Now we gotta press for the cinematic re-release in 2011!
I personally feel the original VHS cover art is fine and they should just use that one.

Less than two weeks!

Hey all,

Since I graduated a week ago I've had more time to work on the site, so content and quality have increased dramatically (at least I think so) Check it out and let me know what you think. I'm open to suggestions for the June clip of the month. Also, another fan has made a trailer that is on YouTube (and also featured on my main page) and is pretty fantastic.

Enjoyed the clip of the month for May and the other improvements made to the site.

As for a June clip, my vote goes to the slip-and-fall seen at the end of the super market opening. It's on youtube here:

The DVD cover is just playing up the obvious similarities between Brian Bosworth and Jason Bourne.

Both are men of mystery. Both are living a lie. But only Bosworth has a pet lizard named Fido.

Clip of the month

I love the supermarket scene, but of course - it is already available online. I'm thinking the german version of the scene where stone finds chains in his van. I've seen that clip so many times, and so many of the words don't translate into german that I think it will be quite marvelous.

Unfortunately the german DVD has no extras. Hopefully the US release will give us something.

I think we'd know by now if there were going to be any decent special features. I hope I'm wrong but I think we'll be lucky to get the film's trailer.

At least Michael Douglas' name won't be on the cover, though I appreciate whatever he contributed to getting the film made.

Goddamn, I'm glad we got out of the long single earing phase. Just plain weirdness really.

You do know that I'm expecting one helluva a write-up for this in "The Special Edition" in a couple weeks. I don't care what else is coming out that week. Screw that other movie with the guy on the motorcycle.

5 days!

The pre-order price on Amazon just dropped to 10.99 - buy 3 copies and get free shipping!

Deepdiscount has it for less than $10. But I can't order this one online. I need to know that this film will be in my hands on Tuesday.

Why would you want 3 copies of this? Because you need Chirstmas gifts or you love the movie that much?

I'm going to need a fairly large supply to hand out to trick-or-treaters. "What a cute ballerina you are. Enjoy the Boz!"

That's like asking "why do you need two kidneys?"

I'm thinking one copy for upstairs, downstairs, work - oh, sh*t - I forgot about the portable dvd player and a loaner........

Actually, I was indeed kidding - but like moltisanti I will be picking up my copy locally.

This DVD is going to be either the biggest pork chop I ever ate or my bulldozer.

It'll be the number one movie in my "classic releases" section - even though The Hustler is getting a 2-Disc release as well and that is pretty fucking cool.

THE HUSTLER is great and all and is worth much attention. But every weekly DVD column on the net will probably focus on that one. Strive to be different!
I'll be picking up this gem as well. The Boz will be playing through my tv come this next week. Too bad there's not a kickass slipcover that simulates his awesome mullet down the back of the dvd case.
It's finally here! I think the wait to get to DVD has actually given this film even greater cult status.

Very true. As soon as I get a break here I gotta start calling places to see who has it in stock. I was bummed to see it not listed in any of the Sunday ads.

Just called "Fry's." Guess how many copies they have? 1! I asked them to put it on hold. Some of you folks may want to call your local retailer ahead of time.
You mean they don't have a massive STONE COLD display case, complete with life-size cardboard cut-out of the Boz himself?

I thought they'd have them available in the vending machines next to the Homie figures.
Just wait, Molt is going to drive to Fry's in the manner of Homer Simpson when he went after that Trampoline complete with screaming the mispronunced of the name at random times.

Today was frustrating.

I wanted 2 DVDs. Stone Cold and The Hustler

1. Best Buy - NO
2. Wal Mart (west side) - NO (had The Verdict, but no Hustler)
3. Hastings - NO (although it was the only place with The Bridge)
4. Target - NO
5. Wal Mart (east side) - NO

I broke down and ordered it through Amazon.

Damn it.

I ran into the same thing last week while trying to find the individual re-issues of the Sergio Leone flicks. The only place carrying them or the collection is Borders. Some of these stores are shooting themselves in the foot with shoddy stocking practices.

God help "Fry's" if they don't have the copy I put on hold waiting for me. I'll make what The Brotherhood did to the Mississippi State Capitol building look like Sunday school.

I'll also never buy a Homie from one of their vending machines ever again.
If the dvd isn't there, Molt is going to bust into Fry's ala Machete. Complete with Mini gun on the motorcycle. But since I don't know what ethnicity Molt is. I'm not sure if I can use the "They Fucked with the wrong Mexican" line or not.
The question remains "is he a Mexican or is he a Mexican't?"
