Chains, Ice, Gut, Tool, and Mudfish. They're All Finally On Their Way! - Page 2

no surprise here

The lack of availability should be no surprise to any of you, if you have been following the news on my site. People started camping out for this movie last week.

The idea that Fry's (the greatest store in the world) only has one copy of the greatest movie in the world is fairly disturbing.

Good luck to all. My local best buy supposedly has them in stock, so off I shall go.

Problem here - in Norman, Oklahoma, the Boz's old stomping grounds - is that none of the stores - Best Buy, Target, Wal Mart, Hastings - even have a spot open for the DVDs to have went into.

Got it, but....

pre-purchased for pick up at best buy - guy told me he was looking in the wrestling section and had a hell of a time finding it. I just shook my head.

Had the kids with me so didn't check to see if they had other copies - but get this - I just checked online and it appears I bought their last copy.

Anyhow, it is a pretty poor treatment. English, French, Spanish subtitles. Bare bones menu screen. Etc. But the kicker is the plot summary on the back cover, which apparently was written by somebody who overheard the plot line in bar:

Football superstar Brian Bosworth (The Longest Yard) and sci-fi legend Lance Henriksen (Aliens) go toe-to-toe in this thriller filled with nonstop action, explosive effects and high-wire tension that will take your breath away.

WHen the FBI's most hot-headed agent (Bosworth) goes undercover to infiltrate a drug-running biker gang, he effectively becomes streetwise thug John Stone. To gain membership into "The Brotherhood," Stone must kill a man, a feat which he apparently pulls off with no hesitation. But when the dead man later shows up alive, his cover is blown and his life is in the hands of the gang's psychopathic leader (Henriksen). ANd when The Brotherhood takes a judge hostage in order to free one of their men, the action gets faster, the bikes get louder, and Stone gets a whole lot colder.

Sheesh! How many things are wrong with that?

I'll be honest, I almost never buy dvds so I'll be curious to see what you pros have to say. It's great to have the movie crystal clear but the rest is worthless.

finally, I will end with the critical acclaim on the box: A "Fun Biker Thriller" - Ryan J. Kenner, Movies in the Attic

Isn't that a geocities critic?

Vern has a review of the DVD over at AICN: http://www.aintitcool.com/node/32966

Number four, there's a shot from the POV of an electric guitar. Number five, pretty much the whole movie is like that, I'm not just listing the only good parts.

You guys are gonna love this one. So I had called Fry's earlier in the day and they assured me it was set aside. They had done such a good job of assuring me it was there that I should have known something was up. So I get there after work, go to the register as I was instructed and ask for STONE COLD. The sales chick goes back to whatever place the clerks go to pretend they're looking for stuff and then returns and tells me it's not there. Then she says she'll go over to the DVD department and see if it's over there. After 5-10 minutes of waiting she returns with STONE COLD in hand.

You can probably guess what happened next.

I look down and I see Tom Selleck's handsome mug looking back at me. Of course that's the STONE COLD they had, even though I double-checked with the lady on the phone earlier in the day that they had the Bosworth version. It didn't matter. I just had to laugh and say to myself "Selleck, my old foe, you win again."

My first thought was to take the 80-pound Filipino clerk and remove her thorax. But it wasn't really her fault. This was the DVD industry's fault. An industry that floods retailers with enough copies of BLOOD AND CHOCOLATE to satisfy the 15 people who will buy that film a million times over.

Part of me thought I should start calling all the other usual joints in my area to see if they had it. I actually did call Suncoast. Can you believe it? There's actually a Suncoast still operating in my area. I'm assuming it's a renegade Suncoast that refuses to close no matter how many other fleets in their armada go belly up. Surprise! They didn't have it either. I'm sure they had plenty of copies GRUMPY OLD MEN for $19.99 but no STONE COLD.

With that I headed home and went straight to Amazon. Took the 2-day shipping so it "should" arrive no later than Friday. I would have selected 1-day shipping but even I couldn't justify paying more to ship the disc than it actually costs.

It's hard being a lover of fine films.

Did I see someone write bare bones? WTF? As if the alumni of this film have anything better to do than make extras for it.

I actually expected it to have little to no special features, since they didn't really promote the dvd.

Like Moltisanti, I also ordered my copy off Amazon. It just seemed like the best solution after reading everybody else's situations.

LATE BREAKING NEWS!

About an hour after I placed my order I got a phone call from a friend. Get this, she by the grace of God was in Best Buy letting her son buy a DS game. It was a shot in the dark but I asked her to see if they had it. They had 3! She snatched up one. I can't get it from her until after work tomorrow but I'm fairly certain this time tomorrow I will have it.

Of course when I went back to Amazon my order was already in the "Too bad, we're shipping it no matter what" phase. So I'll have to return that one, though I don't know if I'll just take that sealed one back to Best Buy or undergo the process of returning it to Amazon by mail. Fuck it, either way I'm content now.

Beware the wrath of Selleck...

I'll have mine tomorrow too. Since I am an Amazon Associate member, one-day shipping is only $3.99 a DVD, so I went with it. I will pay an extra $4 to watch it tomorrow night.

Hey, Moltisanti, trade you an issue of Granny Fanny and a pint of Dark Eyes for your extra copy.
