I recently saw Deadbeat at Dawn and immediately compared it to El Mariachi in my head. It may have been because I was watching it with a friend who was a big fan of the Mexico trilogy. Both movies were made for around $4 and are essentially showcases for action scenes and violence. Personally, I only find El Mariachi to be interesting because we know the supposed budget and it really paved the way for Rodriguez (who now makes the same movie over and over with name actors). Somehow, I found Deadbeat at Dawn to be 10 times more compelling. It had nunchucks and an antogonist named Bone Crusher. Ahem.
