Christine was my introduction to the films of John Carpenter, so it has a special place in my heart. Plus, my brother had a painting of this cover on the wall when I was a kid.


I love this property, but I wouldn't really mind if they made a remake.

Sorry, but the "killer car in love with a teenage nerd" angle is much creepier and more engaging than the book's "possessed car" schtick. I like both the King novel and the Carpenter film, and to me the removal of the cliché LeBay stuff in the latter greatly improved things.

I think I have to disagree with you, Mr. Challis. In the book, we find that LeBay had the same problems w/ the car that Arnie encountered. To wit, the car found a mind of its own and tried to murder his wife & DID murder his daughter (she choked on something from a drive in food joint, as Leigh almost does later in the book) out of jealousy, just as Christine tries to kill Arnie's friends. I would argue that even w/ the LeBay stuff in it, the story is still about a killer car in love w/ its owner and not a haunting/possession tale. Conscious machines seems to be a frequent theme in King's work (like "Trucks", or "The Mangler"). But hey, that's just my take on things.

Not being much of a King fan, I don't know if this comes from the book, either way there's been some great lines in Carpenter films - They Live of course -, but not many better than that.

I thought the film was about as well done as a film abotu a killer car could be expected to be (and pretty enjoyable, to boot), so I'm... not convinced we'll necessarily see any improvement.
