The Boards Are Good Again.

I just noticed this.
Its the presence of Beil's unbelieveably sweet ass whenever you post thats doing it.
Because I post more.

Or maybe the people that write for you ignite entertaining discussion, whatever!
It's all about the Beaks-jamins

The main site isn't doing too badly either.

There has been a lot more good, interesting discussion going on. More attempts at actually generating conversation rather than just argument.

While we should be grateful to myers87 for what he started, we should probably conclude that he didn't have much else to contribute. At least intentionally.

Actually, now that you mention it...
I realized yesterday reading the Grindhouse thread when a bunch of fellows with red rep boxes started the old "fuck you" "NO fuck YOU!" fight -- that it happens so rarely around here and it got boring really fast and I dove out of the thread. Used to be commonplace.

Good civil folks and a great new F13 thread.
Praise be.
Well, the old F13 thread was plenty of fun as well, and the James Bond thread in Franchises has been a consistent source of info and good discussion for over a year.

"Civility is the key, gentlemen!"

I love these boards. And Biel's ass.
It's almost as if a topless, bed-ridden, invalid, midget-shaman-host floating on a hospital bed in some other-dimensional void, and powered by all the computers of all Chewers everywhere, has laser-blasted away the manitou that has been plaguing the MB's.

The magic of ancient Indian tribes? Monstrous power? Great Old One? F**k that. Not on our boards.

Nick musta called Gichi Manitou... collect.
It also seems more relaxed around here but then again that part of it could be due to the muscle relaxers I've been on the last two weeks.

Whatever it is, it's all good.
Nick's right. Stopping to think about it, this place has been a lot more fun lately. I think its a combination of a few things. One, the main site has seen a pretty serious jump in quality over the last few months. That isn't to say it wasnt great before, but the infusion of new blood coupled with the veterans consistently bringing their A-game and having more time to do what they've wanted has really made this a great site. And while I hesitate to stroke his ego anymore, Mr. Beaks has indeed lived up to his billing thus far.

As for the boards, I think its new blood, frankly. A few of the omnipresent bomb throwers have moved on or scaled back their presence, which has let some of the new blood flourish. I won't name names, I think it's fairly obvious, but conversation has been more civil. We talk movies and don't let personal shit derail every other thread. Say what you want about their subject matter, but the B Movie and Bond threads are going more than two dozen pages strong with pretty great discussion and extremely civil debate.

I've noticed I'm on here a lot more as a result, so yeah, I think the boards are good again.
All is good with the boards. I'm starting to realize this now as well. Nice to finally see all of us get civil.
You dickhead.
Telling you, its because I post more. Watch the quality dip once I take a break again.
There has been a bit of a renaissance the past couple of months. I would attribute most of it to the avalanche of content on the main page.

Or, everybody's just jazzed up about baseball season. Either way.

Yeah, there's definitely a lot less people entering threads, just to cause shit and make stupid jokes. Must be 'cause everybody's jazzed up about the upcoming Curling season.
Let's keep it rolling.

I think devin's emergence as a legitimate force on the boards has added a lot to their quality. Always one of the smartest and edgiest of chewers... no longer do people use anything he says as an excuse to exude devin-hate and derail a potentially good conversation.

...
Well, there's too much rep bullshit going on these days, and too little actual, y'know, film talk. Devin starting shit with people here to talk about themselves is, at least, funny and/or funnier than many of the sorry attempts at humor of late.
I think there's more widespread and consistently serious film talk now then there was say...a year and a half/two years ago...and a lot of that comes with the increase of quality content on the main page; like the film canon articles Beaks writes, the spirited debates Devin ignites, etc. People seem not only interested in sharing what they already know, but to learn and experience more, to build a better film vocabulary, to delve into unfamiliar areas, and try be a wiseass all at the same time. Less petty bullshit arguing, too.

And some of the folks on here are really funny. So that doesn't hurt.
I'm doing my part by keeping the bullshit discussion to a minimum and trying to discuss films as much as possible. I think the Creepshow thread has been fun.

I like sandals.

You forgot to say Attn:, Nick.

Admit it... it's the Julie Newmar avatar isn't it?

Yeah, yeah... no need to thank me...

It wasn't before, but now it is. Thanks, Chris!

Yeah, I like it here. I know I have very little to say about film, but I am following you boys around. I figure keeping my mouth shut is better than enduring the sound of 600 geeks rolling their eyes simultaneously.

Yeah, I think your discovery of films has really helped general movie discussion on the board. It's heartwarming to click on new posts and see lots of threads about actual movies.
Last weeks were pretty good, thats true. I'm gonna salute to Molts, Chris Wood and the other guys from the fabulous b action movie thread.

I take it back.
I take it you're reacting to this?

If so, I'd say you shouldn't "take it back" because of that. One of the things I've long admired about CHUD is the liveliness of threads concerning what CHUD is, should be about, etc. etc. Any type of community should have those sorts of discussions.
I agree, surprisingly. (with Flyarz? Shock!) The boards always get stronger after a good fight. People think about what they're saying and try to contribute more.
It's the occassional fire that burns down the forest, which then grows back.

Agreed, but I try to have a glass is half full mentality regarding the site and boards. I just took a shit in the glass.
So, what you're saying is that the glass is ALL full now?

Is it because people didn't cotton to your Jackie Chan thing? We're sorry, man.

No! I wrote that doubting anyone would agree.
I think there's been a sour aftertaste towards some of the recent opinions of the CHUD staff.
Don't lose hope Nick, if anything Dre's thread only demonstrates how much we all love and care for the site. Insults aside, it has been a constructive argument, and most likely the result is that the quality of posts will improve.
It's just unfortunate that the discussion couldn't have taken place with less animosity.
Actually, it's too bad that all the other threads suck while most of the interesting posters shout at one another about how people who aren't even participating in the thread should act.
