Luminous is one that's been around for a while, but I've never ordered from them:

lfvw.com

Is Revok still around? I never ordered from them, either, but they're from the video days. And hell, is Video Search of Miami still around? They're pure old school.

lfvw has great prices, just not what im looking for. Revok is still around and where I picked up Braindead, great shit, just not a huge selection. Video search of miami is also still up and running, doesn't have those flicks. The one with the most promise and has a huge selection is called "Video Screams" but their search feature is of course down at the moment.

Has anyone seen "Blood Spattered Bride?"

I used to order all the time from VSoM back in my VHS days (about 15 years ago). I still have fond memories of the day I got my Taiwanese HARD-BOILED and JUST HEROES tapes in the mail.

Their prices aren't the greatest, but Super Happy Fun has some nice obscure DVD-R selections as well.

Yeah, I own it, I wasn't blown away by it, but perhaps I'll revisit it after not having watched it in a while, this thread may provide that incentive.

Edit: I bought a DVD-R of Fulci's One on Top of the Other a.k.a Perversion Story from lfvw.com, before I replaced it with the newly released DVD. The quality was ass, but I was happy to have it - even though, despite my love for Marisa Mell, it's not that great.

I was lucky in the '90s. I had (a) a laserdisc player and (b) two of the largest east coast LD carriers/importers right down the road from my house in Waltham, MA. (And several other good sources for asian LD thanks to shops in Boston's Chinatown.) I used to have a tremendous library of tapes dubbed from laser, since I could rent even the most obscure Japanese import. As soon as it was in Asian Trash Cinema I had it. Gave those all away when I moved out of MA years ago, and now I regret it, of course, since DVD hasn't been saturated with as much obscurity as we expected.
Yeah, the very first issue of ATC (before they changed their name to the more "pc" Asian Cult Cinema) was where I first heard about VSoM. Man, that brings back so many great memories. I also owned a LD player, so I used to VHS-copy most of the HK/Japanese titles ("$60 for A Chinese Ghost Story w/ burnt-in subs - are you fucking kidding me?") I rented from local mom & pop LD rental stores. The really obscure stuff that they never carried, I always got from VSoM though.

Here's a couple of WIP flicks, Laura Gemser in Caged Women, aka Women's Prison Massacre which is on dvd as well as one I haven't seen that she's in also called Violence In A Women's Prison, and Reform School Girls.

I saw 2019 a few years ago, and was far from impressed, but Bronx Warriors is pretty good.

Saw it at the Grindhouse screenings they've been doing in LA. It's probably my favorite of the Sapphic themed Vampire films, and has one hell of an ending. Recommended.
The Day of the Wolves was a very good heist movie from revengeismydestiny, but I opted for the free version on some public domain torrent site if you're interested. The quality of the print outgrindhoused grindhouse, but it was still a cool movie. Imdb it, people love this one.

I love Carpenter's Assault on Precinct 13. Thanks for the recommendations guys. I need to watch more movies. The Day of the Wolves sounds cool.

Women in Cages (trailer) This one is out of print, but going for approx 30 bucks on Amazon. Anyone seen it? Worth it? The trailer looks pretty damn fun.
I watched Rolling Thunder again last night on Showtime and thought: This is an exploitation movie, according to QT. But after watching it I gotta say if it's a grindhouse movie it's the cream of the crop. The character work with Devane is great and after the shootout you feel exhausted for him. Bless this movie.

With that, here's the new Exploitation Favorites article at AICN: http://www.aintitcool.com/node/32268

Wow there's now like 70 more movies I need to watch..I haven't had a backlog like this in a while. I think tonight I'll check out an Ilsa sequel and maybe Vanishing point if I have some time.

The new Severin disc is heavily cut, so hold on to your DVD-R.

There's a nice boot of FOUR FLIES ON GREY VELVET available at Luminous. It's not a great transfer but certainly re-watchable, and considering the chances of it getting an official release...

The Big Bird Cage - Roger Corman and Pam Grier come together to make a hilarious and kick ass fun flick here. Out of everything I watched, this one was probably the most downright enjoyable. Broads fighting, broads fighting in mud, broads fighting in mud with torn clothes, perverted dogs, gay stereotypes, and over the top warden WITHOUT the disturbing torture scenes we're so familiar with make this one an easy recommendation.
I like it, too. It's practically a spoof of Jack Hill's earlier hit with Corman and New World Pictures, THE BIG DOLL HOUSE. That one also starred Pam Grier and Sid Haig, and featured Grier's amusing performance of "Long Time Woman" (later stolen for JACKIE BROWN) over the opening credits.

I just watched The Beyond for the first time. My God, everybody should see this film. Can't believe it took me so long, as I've seen a great deal of Fulci's work before.

My only region free player sucks pretty bad, and my swedish sucks worse..so I'll try to hold out for the not dated but being worked on synapse (i think) release of this one..unless anyone would happen to stumble across it on a website. I've gotten good word from a DVD Maniac forum poster that just for the hell carries it, so I may get it from there. This is the second site I've emailed about it and so far no one has responded. These guys usually that slow to get back to someone? It kind of scares me to order at all.

Has anyone ordered from horrortheatervideo.com? They have some good titles and cheap prices, but I haven't heard them recommended by anyone.

I think the better question is that if italian crime counts, what would be the Godfather of "Women in Prison/sexploitation" and "Nazisploitation" flicks?

Emanuelle in America - This one is a movie that kept popping up in recommendations, and after hearing that a horse was jerked off in the movie, I had to check it out. I'm sorry I did. This is mostly copied from my IMDB review but I added some curse words.

This really seems like the directors had a bunch of ideas and then tried to work a story around it, and then after scripting and shooting the first half, they took an entirely different direction for the second. After about an hour of boring Cinemax style softcore porn with one out of left field beastiality scene, I was beginning to get bored. Then all of the sudden, the movie goes hardcore. It is quite strange because it seems all previous scenes went out of their way to keep the sex strictly Cinemax and then get as graphic as your average pornography. Ten minutes after that the movie takes another strange turn and edges ever so lightly into the world of snuff. It takes a lot to disturb me, but the images used in this part of the movie put even Ilsa to shame.

All of that is well and good for this renowned exploitation film, even with the strange contrast of the light opening half with the decidedly heavy second, HOWEVER we run into a huge problem with the story. The acting is passable for this type of flick, I didn't expect Oscar nomination worthy performances. The story, if you want to call it that, was definitely an afterthought, as Emanuelle is an undercover reporter. Just what her assignment is is never clear, it appears to be some kind of expose on sex clubs, and SPOILER SPOILER in the end is never resolved. As a matter of fact, I don't think any particular storyline here was solved. We are basically watching an excuse to see this one woman sleep with as many people as possible, and other people sleep with each other too, and then some scenes with branding, rapes, hook fucking, and barbed wire dildos. SPOILER END.

Overall I can't recommend this movie for exploitation fans. There are movies that manage to squeeze all of this action in with a better plot and a fun time. This movie became a chore to sit through up until the last act, and then the ending blew all the good will that came from it. Stick to your Ilsa and Pam Grier prison flicks for your fill of this type of fare.

Well that's obvious. Naked Godfather Detectives and Dr. Godfather: Nazi.

Here's some Italian Crime: Fulci's Contraband. That movie is damn gory, and has a completely awesome Disco club sequence that is entirely lit with strobe lights. The dubbing on the dvd is atrocious sadly.

I'm finishing a Videodrome on domestically available Lenzi flicks, with a follow-up specifically on a couple of his crime movies. Was thinking of including Contraband (to broaden it out a little) if I can't find a couple other things I've got hidden in storage.

Oh, and thanks for the note about Two Lane Blacktop on cable. totally watching that every night this week.
I wish I could actually get a dvd of Two Lane Blacktop, but the prices are outrageous.

The only Lenzi flick that I've seen is what more than likely inspired Rodriguez' Planet Terror: City Of The Walking Dead/Nightmare City. Man, that movie is a hoot. There's something else to recommend.
I don't know if you'd classify it as "Grindhouse" or not, but I watched "Inseminoid" on Monster HD last night and it was utterly hilarious and bizarre at the same time. It's got some decent boobies in it, and also appearances by Stephanie Beacham and Victoria Tennant. The two Phibes movies have been playing in regular rotation on Monster HD as well the last few months.

And "Shriek of the Mutilated"'s box alone used to scare me at the video store. Never got a chance to see it, though.

Sergio Grieco's Beast With A Gun starring Helmut Berger as an unlikely tough guy and psycho killer, named Nanni Vitalli, who repeatedly reminds people that he's a psycho killer who likes to kill; it's like he has Tourette's or something: "Haven't you heard of me, Nanni Vitalli, I'm the Mad Dog Killer, I like to kill!" Oh, and he rapes Marisa Mell, convinces himself that she liked it and that's she's into him and then decides to let her in on this big heist that he's got planned. So, yeah, Nanni Vitalli, not the brightest guy in the world.

Sergio Martino's Violent Professionals, with a way too skinny Luc Merenda in Dirty Harry mode. Cool car chases, a little girl gets shot, so that's always fun (off camera though). Antonio "The Sleaziest Looking Italian Ever" Casale makes an appearance (automatic 5 points).

Umberto Lenzi's Syndicate Sadists with Tomas Milian as a "bad ass" drifter type named Rambo, who looks like the scrubbiest junkie you've ever seen. Absurd and almost totally nonsensical, but fun in its way. Antonio "The Sleaziest Looking Italian Ever" Casale makes an appearance (automatic 5 points, again).

Emergency Squad, Milian again, beautifully shot but leisurely paced, maybe even more of an acquired taste than any of the film's I'm mentioning here.

The Cynic, The Rat and The Fist starring Maurizio Merli, John Saxon and Tomas Milian (the latter two as the film's heavies). The latter two actors deliver the film's most memorable performances, especially Milian showing himself to be a pretty well rounded thespian. Antonio "The Sleaziest Looking Italian Ever" Casale makes an appearance (automatic 5 points, yet again).

ROME ARMED TO THE TEETH (Assault With A Deadly Weapon). Maurizio Merli again, possibly the most entertaining out either of these recommendations. Psycho hunchback, douchebags were never more fun.

You're welcome. Those with the Cinemax channels can catch Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry in the wee hours tonight, I believe 4:30 Eastern and 7:30 Eastern. Double check those times.

Has anyone here seen Rudy Ray Moore's Avenging Disco Godfather? One of the stupidest, yet imminently watchable movies I have ever seen. Good luck finding it. I used to have it on VHS, but it was lost in one of many moves.

Pervert! - Even though this one is recent, I still consider it an exploitation film, so here are my thoughts. It's hard to criticize a movie for going over the top too much if it aims for just that, but quite a bit of the jokes here are a bit easy, though there are a few gems, including the last chick's one sentence on homosexuality that had me rolling. The broads in this movie are hot as hell, but may not be your cup of tea if you are into anorexic chicks, and by god they are on display constantly. It's as if the director had an every 3 minute boob quota to fill. There is a pretty light slasher mystery going on here as the cast is literally about 5 people, and the solution is rediculous..but anyone watching this and expecting a hollywood ending shouldn't be watching this any way. A few cool gore effects including one instance of my personal favorite hose of blood decapitation effect. The production values are low, the dialogue is bad, the story is an excuse to show boobs, it doesn't ooze cool like some other sexploitation-esque flicks, and about 70 percent of the jokes are way over the top, but somehow over all this, this movie has enough lighthearted charm and big natural boobs to overcome, and gets a recommended rating from me.

I Spit on Your Grave - the no brainer and probably an obvious one, but I had to mention it as it is probably the first one you should watch if you are looking deeper in the "revenge" genre. The rape is brutal, the end is satisfying. Earns it's template reputation and I recommend you check it out if you haven't already.
One of those films that must be seen for yourself. Words...can't...describe the "bath-tub" scene I think we'll all agree!

My personal favorite is the revenge part with the slow kid..it illustrates to me how much her character has been fucked with and the lengths she's willing to go to make it as right as possible. Anyone seen "Turkish I spit on your grave"?

I'm with Ebert on I Spit; worst film I've ever seen! But...you gotta see it for yourself to form opinions towards its reputation.

The Beyond is an aquired taste, as it could probably get boring, but I like it, especially the score, and when David Warbeck starts shooting all of the zombies in the hospital. Got a copy of it last summer for 8.99, after seeing that it's OOP, and going for a lot on E-Bay, and this is for the regular edition, not the tin.

Ms. 45 - A mute woman has the misfortune to be raped twice by two completely unrelated attackers within the span of what seems to be an hour and goes nuts. Then she kills a bunch of people. The problem here is how dead serious this movie takes itself. Usually in a revenge flick, I like to be able to enjoy the revenge killings, but with all but the last few kills, the people that Ms. 45 exacts revenge on really have nothing to do with her, and thus really don't hold any weight. I'd say this plot was an excuse to show people killed in creative ways..but it isn't creative or gory. This movie contains 0 boobs, bad gore effects. It's sole plus is the nun sequence in the end. I can not recommend this one.
Forgive me, but that post is hilarious to me. For some critics, Ms. 45 has become the iconic acceptable exploitation/female revenge flick, because there's a certain feminist reading that applies. And the fact that you should be able to like the killings but can't, and therefore don't enjoy or recommend the movie, is that appraisal come to life.

I had typed a long rebuttal here but then I realized I have no idea what you mean..and how is there a feminist bend to this movie? The only difference between this one and the few others I have seen is that instead of just killing people that wronged her, she just kills random people. While that would seem to make sense, it just didn't translate into anything interesting after the initial kill, it seemed like after she broke down, she didn't have any more character movement and there really wasn't a plot to progress. It isn't a matter of liking the killings or rooting for the main character, it's just that after that pretty interesting beginning, it became a chore to keep interested.

It actually does make a lot of sense. I hadn't looked at it in the light that she was just killing people who wrong women in general. Also I think in watching this long line of movies and expecting to be shocked I was pretty much spoiled and surprised when this one hit. I have softened my stance on the movie since that first reaction, but I may have to watch again with a different disposition, and not in between hot summer in the city and dirty mary crazy larry.

Don't let the tread die! I just put in a huge order for some DVD-R action:

Exponerad, Rape Squad, Centerfold Girls, Swingin Barmaids, Student Teachers, Chained Heat, Schoolgirls in Chains, Barbed Wire Dolls, Women of Hell's Island, Women of Cell Block 7, Red Nights of the Gestapo, Island of Lost Girls, Caged Women, Washing Machine, Blood Spattered Bride, and Torso

Ill give site reviews once they are delivered.

Watched Rolling Thunder on Showtime last night..that movie kicked all kinds of ass. It caught me off guard though, because it is an actual good movie.

Torso is a good flick. I'd love to see it on dvd. I've only seen it on vhs, and it was almost certainly a cut version. The dvd is going for mad money now. Just like the Argento flicks Tenebre, and Phenomena.

If you happen to check it out again, make sure it's paired with Roman Polanski's REPULSION. Both films are serious and absorbing studies (by serious, absorbing filmmakers) of sexual repression/confusion/disgust in shy, taciturn young women who are victimized and deal with their trauma by murdering members of the opposite sex. Neither were intended to be "revenge" melodramas, but should be taken as psychological thrillers. And damn good ones, too.
some good recos here. there's really a lot of different categories and subgenres in exploitation. I like everything from Namsploitation to Nunsploitation, but my personal fave types would be revenge movies and serial killer thrillers and survival flicks, that kind of thing. I love when movies show good people driven over the edge, and instant justice served up by cops/ex-cops/disgruntled vets/grieving parents/kindly old jews from neighbouring apartments. some good ones that I haven't yet seen mentioned:

Mother's Day (one of the best pure exploitationers ever)
Class of 1984 (ditto)
Vice Squad (and again)
Last House on the Left
House on the Edge of the Park
Hitch Hike
Rabid Dogs (the only Bava I actually like, makes a great companion to The Candy Snatchers)
Night Train Murders aka Late Night Trains
Last House on the Beach
Death Weekend
Terror Express
Vengeance is Mine (Borgnine!)
Give Us Tomorrow
Brotherhood of Death (for the Fight for your Life fans out there)
Death Wishes 1, 2, 3
Vigilante
Walking the Edge ("Say hello to warm weather, you filthy fucking scum". much as I love Lustig, this is a better Foster flick than Vigilante... though Lustig's is cool too)
The Exterminator
Fighting Back
Defiance
Siege (Balsam!)
The New Kids
Night of the Juggler
Relentless
10 to Midnight ("Forget What's Legal... Do What's Right!")
Don't Answer the Phone
Visiting Hours
A Stranger is Watching
The Boys Next Door
Sudden Impact
Handgun
Lipstick
Dirty Weekend (nice combination of slick and trash from Michael "Death Wish" Winner, chock full of vile characters... fun movie)
A Gun for Jennifer
Torched (the short film)
Eye for an Eye
Naked Vengeance
Tenement
Trapped aka Baker County USA
Rituals (Holbrook!)
Hunter's Blood
Season of the Hunted
Open Season (with Peter Fonda)
Turkey Shoot
Northville Cemetery Massacre (completely badass biker movie)
nearly forgot: Savage Streets with Linda Blair. CLASSIC.
also must mention the Hong Kong exploitation movie classics, which almost never fail in the sleaze department and are in some cases really fucking fierce and better than anything put out in the west. examples:

Run and Kill
Red to Kill
Untold Story
Ebola Syndrome
The Intruder
Dr Lam
Her Vengeance
Lost Souls
Men Behind the Sun
Seeding of a Ghost
Escape from Brothel
etcetc.
