That's what I'm talking about. Canadians seem very proprietary about hockey. Same thing happened when the Blue Jays won back to back World Series -- there were a lot of fans of storied American teams like the Yankees and Cubs who thought it was the end of the world.

Nope. When people from Montreal cheers for Ottawa, or in fact, any other city, that will tell you something.

Troy, please tell me you'd hate to see Toronto win the cup. Please.

Martin has already given indication that he's a lost cause:

Tragic.

Toronto won't win the Cup for years. But honestly, what's more tragic, Toronto winning and it's (insert your insult) people cheering for i. Or Anaheim, and it's 58 supporters, not giving a shit about it, being more obsessed with the Extreme Rally Mini-Put Challenge ?

I'm a hardcore Habs fan, but fuck those 2nd grade crappy expansion teams.

You usually worry about how educated a hockey crowd is in a nontraditional market, but an audible portion of the Anaheim crowd knew enough last night to boo Gary Bettman mere minutes after their team won the Cup. He tried to defuse it with his "I come bearing gifts" schtick, but when the crowd of a Cup-winning team doesn't embrace you, that's a pretty good no-confidence vote.

Evidently I've been out of Canada for too long, as it wouldn't bother me if the Habs won the Cup. When I was young I always knew how people felt about me as a Yankee fan because I felt the same way about Canadien's fans.

But the Leafs fans? I hope there's a whole level of Hell reserved for 'em so they can keep Ballard company

When you win the Cup, it's a perquisite to trash and burn the main artery of your city. Anything less makes you a city unworthy of hosting an NHL team.

The Cup belongs in Canada. I was hoping this was the year my home country would finally bring it back to its rightful home. I was hoping it would be Montreal that would do it...but, Ottawa would have been okay too. I'm a hardcore Habs fan, and it always pisses me off to see these teams like Carolina, Tampa Bay, and Anaheim this year winning something that their fans dont even give a shit about....when the entire country of Canada cherishes it.

It's usually Canadians who win the cup anyway, regardless of which city they happen to be living in at the time. Since most NHL teams aren't in Canada, the odds are against us. How much gold does Canada win when it comes to the Olympics and the Worlds and so on?

This cup was seriously anticlimactic for me. The season's too long, I lost interest after the first two rounds of the finals. I think it's sad that a team called the Ducks will have its name engraved on the Stanley Cup, but hooray for all the players, I guess.

I watched almost every Canadiens game this season so when they were eliminated, I took a well deserved break from hockey. Now we're in june and the cup was won. Yay. Ridiculous. Not as ridiculous as a team being called the Ducks winning it all but still.

Pretty cool that Bettman was booed even in Anaheim.

Is it more ridiculous that the team is called The Ducks or is it more ridiculous that the team was formed because of an Emilio Estevez movie?

Woo. The Cup's now in Southern California.

Let's go make sand castles with it!
