Glad to see the Devil's games will finally be on Versus. I had to put up with the Pens on both Versus and FSN (since I live a few hours from Pittsburgh).

I'm not too keen on HNIC's new scoreboard either, but at least it isn't three rows long.
The worst is a power play on Versus that is sponsored by KFC or Right Guard or something.

They have the row for the teams and score, then an equal-sized row for the powerplay time, then a tiny little drop down windows that stays under that that says KFC on it.

So, they successfully cover 1/5th of the screen at the most inopportune time.

Anyway, San Jose looks like a tough match-up for the Red Wings, but the great thing about hockey is...you can never tell how a series will go until the teams actually play each other. Just look at what Edmonton did last year.

Its all futile this year, anyway, since Buffalo is an unstoppable force. Hopefully someone can topple them.

Aaaah, Alexor and Seabass are Canadians, like many others around here. But that doesn't mean we don't watch US Channels because of broadcasting reasons.

And speaking of US hockey coverage, I really miss the Laser Puck ( the FX enhanced puck easier to follow for dim-witted people that made our sport look like a crappy arcade game). So disco.

I think Versus has done a pretty good just covering the playoffs this year. The commenting has been pretty good, but I love that they're broadcasting in HD. IMO, you can only watch hockey in HD.

Anyone watching the Rangers - Buffalo game tonight at 7? I think this is going to be a good series. I'm pulling for the Sabres!
The best thing that Versus has done is get John Forsland to commentate. Forsland is the Carolina Hurricanes commentator on FSNSouth and is superb at his job. I think Versus recognized his talent and gave him the opportunity to do playoff games.
RDS, the french broadcaster for Les Canadiens are probably the worst sportscasters in the world. At least the signal is supposed to be in HD next season.

One night this douschesicle tries cutting in front of everyone to get a drink. He even pulled out the line, "Do you know who I am?" when someone gave him shit about it. First class assface.

A canadian hockey *oilers* fan here, currently rooting for Vancouver. MAN we got spanked by the ducks tonight...
I called a final featuring Buffalo vs Anaheim, with Buffalo winning.

So far, so good.

Or the Marines. I don't know why power plays need sponsors anyway, but NBC had one sponsored by the US Marines. That was strange.
Wow. Way to go Wings.

I know alot of shots looks good on the scoresheet at the end of the game, but come on guys....wait for two seconds to set up a play or two.
I miss my Holmstrom and I know that the Wings do. I heard that he won't be back until game 3 or 4.
It's been two hours, and I'm still beat.

The Rangers had that game for 40 minutes, and then gave it away (thanks!). Still... that's the kind of win... nah, can't say it... my inner Buffalonian refuses just yet.

Six down, ten to go.
I'm saying:

Ottawa vs. Buffalo
San Jose vs. Vancouver

Then:

Buffalo vs. San Jose

With San Jose winning the Cup.
So what about that Sabres game tonight at 7... anyone watching? It beter be as exciting as last game. Hopefully there won't be any attempts to score goals with our feet, this is hockey people, not soccer. I know it's been talked about too much already, but from the replay I definitely think it was a no goal. There were some great replays from several angles showing Rachunek looking right at the puck as he kicked it in. Good no goal in my opinion.
After tonight I'd change that Vancouver pick to the Ducks.

It's pretty much over for us Canucks now.
Thoughts from a Sabres fan:

Both no-goal calls in this series should have counted, frankly. If Pominville's goal counts last Wednesday, then the goal on Sunday definitely counts. Briere's goal last night should have counted, as well.

I was at the local sports bar after work yesterday, and... I was quite scared about the reaction from people, honestly. It's a kneejerk reaction from fans who've felt shit on through the years.

I like to think I know heartbreak, garnering the rare fandom trifecta of the Sabres, Bills, and the Braves (long story). Throw in growing up about 10 years too late to enjoy being a Celtics fan, and the Axis of Agony is complete.

But I know if there's ever going to be a team that breaks the so-called 'Buffalo curse', then they're going to have to fight through adversity. This is the Sabres' time for that.

Am I terrified? Yeah. But that's just me. I'll probably need a defibrilator within arm's reach if the Sabres get as close as they did in 1999. I'm one of those fans who wouldn't even know what to do should the Unspoken Event actually occur.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to play some NHL 07 to calm the hell down.

Heh. Could you imagine? They'd call it The Great Sabre Riot of 2007 or some lame-ass title. Chippewa Street (that's the bar district) would probably burn to the ground, along with most of downtown.

No big loss.
detroit.WHAT?!coolest friggin game i've seen in a minute.
7 seconds to go... holy shit.
I turned the game off after the Rangers scored. (I was at work, so it was either sit and stew or get my job done, which would require me to walk away from the radio.)

The Hockey Gods have made me pay for my penance.

I'm still in shock.
Come on Ottawa you little bitches!
That was a great bar game if you're a buffalo fan. Personally I was hoping for NY cause it'll be easier for Ottawa to beat NY...
Yeah, that's true. Ottawa will definitely have their hands full. Either way whichever team advances will be exhausted when they enter the finals.
Ottawa advances!!!!!!!!
I need new pants after the end of today's game.

Kudos to the Rangers for going out on their shields, but the Buffalo-Ottawa series is going to be an absolute war. I would be stunned if it didn't go seven games.
Now have to wait for Detroit and San Jose, bunch of slow asses.
a couple of heavy hitting match-ups for the conference finals. Can't wait to watch the Buffalo/Ottawa game tonight.
Ottawa up 2-0! I can't wait for tomorrows game!
The East match-up is a no-lose situation for me, as I like both teams, so it doesn't matter to me who wins. I like more of the players on Ottawa, but can't stand Emery.

The West is going to be tough to beat, though, 'cause they're huge and play a very defense oriented game. Detroit's not so big, but they've been playing like they are. I think tonight's game will show us alot about if the Red Wings have what it takes to go all the way this year. Friday's game was scary and The Ducks played well enough to win the game, so this is going to be a tough one. Detroit's penalty kill and goaltending pretty much won that one.
well, in regards to The Duck's third goal.

Copied directly from the NHL Rulebook:

RULE 78.5 Dissallowed Goals
78.5 Disallowed Goals - Apparent goals shall be disallowed by the Referee and the appropriate announcement made by the Public Address Announcer for the following reasons:

(ix) When the goalkeeper has been pushed into the net together with the puck after making a save.

oh well, guess the guys in Toronto were only looking to see if the puck crossed the line and didn't care how the puck crossed the line.
Yes, God dammit... YES!
If they eliminate the Sabres, the Senators better win the cup. Even though I'm a Red Wings fan, I'd prefer if they didn't win yet another one.
I think the Sabres have a carbon monoxide leak in there locker room. Someone get the fire department in, this team is looking lethargic and uncoordinated.

Wow. Just wow. I had Buffalo picked to annihilate this year. I thought that they're offense was unstoppable. Boy was I wrong. I'm happy to see Ottawa winning, as I like Alfie and Spezza and Heatley is one of my favorite players in the whole league, but I would like to see a closer series than this.
If the Senators sweep it'll be interesting because I expect the Ducks/Red Wings series to go all 7.

Yes, you have to respect a man who can speed around and crash a $200,000 car killing his teammate in the process. Clearly someone to admire.
Says the guy who has probably gotten a speeding ticket before, like most of the population.
Once for doing 10 kph over. I never killed a friend doing it or anybody else for that matter. I only did it because it was a back road that no cars were on... aside from the cop hiding out of course.

And just to note... I wasn't actually really being serious. There's some sarcasm in my post somewhere.
Of course, I'm sure that was the only time you ever went over the speed limit, in your lifetime. Or do you travel on a lot of backroads, which obviously means you can break the rules of the law?

He said Heathly's one of his favorite players, not someone he admires. Big difference. You're being a dick for no reason.

I guess you guys failed to read this:

I wasn't actually trying to attack him for liking Heatley, holy fuck. Go air your panties out.
Lets see how the officiating goes in game 3 Wings/Ducks today. On XM yesterday everyone was having a go at the officials for non-calls and over-corrections afterward.

Bill Clement even stated that this series was almost unwatchable to him because of the inconsistent officiating. The Anaheim defense is molesting Detroit and getting away with it and, in return, Chris Chelios is running around hitting anything with Black and Gold on, whether they have the puck or not. Not his exact words, but you get the drift.

And no need for sarcasm, Brendan, the fact that Heatley smashed his teammate is exactly why I like him.

I just read about that guy last weekend.: The car was eventually brought to a halt by the body of a victim trapped underneath.

It's a travesty he never got a medal.

Concerning the officiating, inconsistency is what pissed me off during the whole season. It's the main reason the NHL cannot be taken seriously.

Well there's that and two lock outs in ten years, one of which resulted in an entire season being missed.

And all that so salaries could get back to where they were two years ago!
Well, the officiating in the game last night looked fine. If you're a Ducks fan, it may have looked a little lop-sided.

Lets see what happens tonight. I could have never in 100 years predicted that Detroit was going to play like that, but I do believe that Buffalo is going to come out guns blazing and scorch Emery time and time again tonight.

We'll see.
