Holy crap does cccc choose the oddest films to champion.

TASM and James Cameron. They're the nectar he feeds upon to churn out his bullshit-flavoured honey.

The oversea's numbers seemed to have saved Step Up: Revolution.  Over 105 Million worldwide so far. We'll probably be getting another entry in the future.

That doesn't give it the right to continue to live.

I hope they make a new Step Up every year.

What the hell?  Is he hitting her or something?  It's like he hundred hand slapped her.

He's hitting her with sexiness.

In a perfect world, RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK would win the weekend. In all seriousness, how is it tracking?

September's books are cloooooosed

Updates on July and August to follow in this space.

July

It looks like Banana Grabber may have this. Only TDKR has any juice left at all here.

August

Lots of movement, lots of locks for releases from the first half of the month. Episode29 benefiting heavily from the adjusted scoring.

I kinda hate that I got the lead lowballing TDKR, all things considered.

I will continue to enjoy the failure of The Watch though.

Same here.  Like That's My Boy, this is another one that I'm GLAD I was wrong on.

Think DREDD 3D can hit the 50 Million domestic it needs to get its sequels?

I pray it does but I honestly don't think it will. It's too niche and under people's radar, too little buzz (despite it being ace and well reviewed), and a more restrictive certificate isn't going to help either so I'm thinking we're looking at a Punisher: War Zone-style box office performance (though Dredd is a much stronger film than that was). Then again, who'd have thought Taken would have ever proved as popular as it did?

In short: go see it, ya bums!

Liam Neeson had a bit more cred than Karl Urban though, no offense to Mr. Urban.

Speaking of action, Expendables 2 might only be sitting at 76 million domestic (on a 100 million budget), but it apparently pulled in 25 million during its first week in China.  For comparison, the first only made 31 million total during its Chinese run.  Internationally the film has pulled in almost 160 million so far and the numbers still haven't been fully updated.  The film is only 50 million away from passing its predecessor's worldwide total and that's probably a lock at this point.

Long story short, between international success and inevitably high home video numbers, Expendables 3 has a pretty damn good shot at getting made in a couple of years.

All that and it hasn't even come out in Japan yet. Attaboy, rest of Earth!

It's a done deal, in my opinion.

Stallone seems more invested than anyone in Hollywood in keeping his franchises going. I certainly wouldn't bet against it, but I wouldn't necessarily expect them to pull out all the stops either.

I used to work for Nu Image/Millennium and they were all about foreign sales. They've probably already sold EXPENDABLES 3 to foreign markets.

I am actually a little surprised on how well TE2 is doing overseas when compared to domestic. Sly must still have a lot of pull here in Asia.

Stallone was always a superstar overseas even when his films tanked stateside. It's how he commanded the pay he did even when his films weren't exactly tearing up the box office.

I'm not.  The first one made over twice as much internationally as it did here in the States.

Resident Evil made 21.1 M this weekend. Lowest opening since the first film a decade ago. Guess it'll clean up overseas but a noticeable drop off from the previous three.

Not a surprise.  Even by Resident Evil standards, Afterlife was terrible.

BoxOfficeMojo says that The Master has a $146,000 per screen average.

That has to be a mistake, right?

No mistake. It's in the top 10 for weekend theatre averages (obviously not wide releases). Then again so is Red State confused.gif

That's because Smith was charging like $30 a fucking ticket or some kinda high ass number for the included Q&A aftershow.  Red State doesn't really belong on that list.

EDIT: Just found out the March 4 2011 screening of Red State at Radio City Music Hall was $54.50 to $124.50 for a ticket.  So yeah, doesn't count.

I'm intrigued by the number of Disney films on that list. Where do these films play for a week or so in 2 theaters before opening wider? Disneyland?

It's already made over $71 Million worldwide though. We'll be getting another one of these next year for sure.

Sad. Especially with a C+ cinemascore. Out of all the reboots, this is one franchise that is in desperate need of one.

Smith is such a fucking carnival barker. I can't wait until he makes his great egress.

Nicholas Cage got his new flick STOLEN released as well.

"The same can't be said for the latest Nic Cage action flick STOLEN (from THE EXPENDABLES 2 and CON AIR director Simon West), which got dumped on 141 screens to chump change ($204k)."

From what I've heard from friends and family who actually went to see it, the new one is one of the worst in the series to date.......and this is coming from fans.

Excellent!  The more money it makes, the better chance I have of it hitting a theater near me.

Next year? Nah, Anderson will use its international success to get something else off the ground first, much like he did with Three Musketeers last year.  Expect the inevitable Resident Evil 6 to hit screens September 2014, just like clockwork.

During the mid-90s Disney heyday, they'd typically open them up a week or two earlier in New York and LA.

Not surprised by The Master. I couldn't get a ticket in NY. Fucked up my weekend a bit.

I wonder how Dredd will actually do, given that the reviews are mostly positive?  Granted that really doesn't mean much, but it certainly couldn't hurt in terms of WOM after this weekend.

Box Office Mojo has DREDD coming in 5th this week. Let's hope they're wrong.

That's sad to hear. It deserves to be much higher than this.

Was there ever any doubt though?

Maybe the DREDD series can continue through DTV. Or an Animated Series. Getting a quality piece of work in those formats is possible.

Maybe animated. Nothing good comes out of DTV live-action.

I beg to differ. UNDISPUTED II & III, US: REGENERATION and THE TOURNAMENT were pretty good. Heard some good stuff about DEATH RACE II as well.
