I don't see a studio (especially Fox) intentionally losing money to please a filmmaker. That's kind of crazy. They'll politely tell him it's not going to happen and offer him something else. I'd be shocked if they made another one without rebooting or doing the alternate Blomkamp take. The franchise is in the toilet.
Either way, for Fox to let Scott have another one, how much money could they even hive him to work with? Compounded with his age, and whatever hook he is able to use to draw more people, like Ambler said, probably his last one.

Plus, the 2049 in the title is a mistake. I'm not saying the movie won't be good, all the talent involved points to the opposite, but I will gloat about my prediction this October.
