The Miseducation of Patrick Ripoll: Mo' Better Blues

I just saw this one for the first time today and I LOVE it. At first the lack of focus was frustrating, but I began to appreciate the mood, the atmosphere, the fucking great music and cinematography. It almost feels like Spike Lee's Mean Streets.

That may be one of my favorite lines in any movie ever.

I haven't seen it in years, but recall enjoying it immensley. At the time, watching Indigo give birth was a bit much. Probably wouldn't think so now.

I finally got around to it when I bought the Spike Lee collection on DVD. It's good, but not great. When it's on it's on, but it's a far less focused affair than his better films. Still, Spike's one of my favorite directors, and while I place a great many of his films higher than this one, this is still a good movie.

I think you nailed it here, I thought the same thing while watching this. I actually think the lack of focus works for the movie in some ways, but the ending never hit me the way I hoped. I think the third act might move a bit to fast, and I don't think we get to see enough of Bleek down-and-out before Indigo takes him back. The scene where Bleek can't play through his scarred lips is pretty killer though.

Oh God, I can't believe I used to self-title the movie threads I made. What a tool.

I've been meaning to see this again. I can hardly remember any of it.

I actually like the thread title, the honesty is refreshing. The movie is on Instant Watch if you've got it.

Also, this movie made me wish Denzel and Snipes did more movies together, as they have pretty great chemistry throughout.

Bleek: Who asked you?
Left Hand Lacey: Nobody asked me, man.
Bleek, Shadow Henderson: [in unison] Then shut the fuck up!

This is one of many examples I use when I say Wesley Snipes deserves better.
