K, I wasn't actually expecting anyone to respond. But...

I don't see how that makes him the greatest NASCAR driver... maybe the greatest auto racer. He only spent about a year or two in NASCAR running only a handful of races. And won one race.
Richard Petty maybe. He did win 200 races, 7 Daytona 500's and 7 Cup championships. But his last win was in 1984 and he retired in what? 1992? That's almost ten years he went without a win. He stayed around too long which hurt his career.
Darrell Waltrip is another example of someone who stayed around too long. His late career was a joke.
Dale Earnhardt was still competitive and before his death was a favourite every year to win the championship and was still a contender. Unlike Petty and Waltrip. Hell, Earnhardt probably would have won another championship by now had he not died.
My vote is Earnhardt. Plus his racing style was unique. He just wouldn't go out and beat you around like some did or he wouldn't back off and play it safe. He mixed it all together. He toyed around with you and when you gave up just a little bit he was there to blow right by you.
