"The Chocolate War" now out on DVD

After innumerable delays as a result of the rights transfering to another studio, Keith Gordon's directorial debut is now available on DVD, and with its original soundtrack, no less.

I haven't had time to listen to Gordon's commentary yet, but considering how affable and eloquent he is (I saw him at the Aero in Santa Monica last year, where he, along with John Glover, Wallace Langham and the film's cinematographer and editor introduced it), I'll venture to say that it's worth hearing.

A good movie based on a good book.

For years I hated how Gordon altered Cormier's ending, but I've come to understand Gordon's point-of-view: namely, that in conforming, Jerry has decimated his integrity, and that the movie does not have an uplifting ending. I think both endings are perfectly valid conclusions to an amazing story.

Picked this up yesterday. Am a huge Gordon fan. Haven't seen this for a long time. Aside from the commentary, there is a fairly lengthy interview with Gordon about the flick and his early career. Anyway, yippie!

Hope the widescreen DVD of "A Midnight Clear" is nearing release.
