Erm... Here's the brief Joystiq overview: http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/19/va...tion-obtained/

And the forums on which this misguided individual posted the information: http://emp.damage-web.net/viewtopic.php?p=62590

Still waiting to hear from Valve...

Great. My card number is in there.

This makes me glad that I was so annoyed by the Steam client that I never bothered to actually buy any of those games that I wanted.

I'd like to hear something official about this before becoming concerned; even so, I'll be checking my CC accounts quite closely for the next little while.

I believe it actually only affects people that use the cafe system, not general store users.

Regardless of who it affects, the concern is that Valve has now had two high-profile, successful cracks into its data stores. (Well, one-and-a-half until this one is confirmed.)

Hmm, the more I look at this stuff the less worried I am. The guy made the forum post 9 days ago, first off, and in that time Valve hasn't made any kind of statement. I doubt he's got much more than what he posted.

This is true. you would think they would have learned a little more from the first incident, which could have, in theory, brought the entire company down.

Doug Lombardi, director of marketing at Valve, says, "There has been no security breach of Steam." However, he does confirm our expert's findings by adding, "The alleged hacker gained access to a third-party site that Valve uses to manage the commercial partners in its Cyber Café program. This Cyber Café billing system is not connected to Steam. We are working with law enforcement agencies on this matter, and encourage anyone with more information to e-mail us at Catch_A_Thief@valvesoftware.com."

Hurrah! Sensationalism triumphs again!

Hey, I'm just happy I can go ahead and buy the Xpand Rally/GTI Racing two-pack off Steam now.

So, fucking hackers got into Steam forums earlier this week. Valve just put a sign up on their site saying they may have accessed crucial account info, but there are no indicators they cracked sensitive data. Annoying that this happened again.

Change your passwords and watch/de-activate your credit cards people...
