Here's the box art (not counting either the Virgin or HMV Exclusives): http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/protectedi...1.jpg_20042007

I think it's safe to say, this shit got really real.
Not a bad set up, although why are there two commentaries from Sandford Police?
Damn Damn Damn. Can I contain myself long enough to wait for the US release?

Good to see "Dead Right" on here as well. I had read somewhere that Edgar said he would include this on the DVD release. Now, what are the odds the US version will not include some of this stuff? The SotD US Release was pretty consistent with the UK DVD, wasn't it?
US version of Shaun dropped two commentaries, a couple of production diaries, one of the TV bits, and only had the US theatrical trailer.
Shaun was a shorter movie though, and therefore the film and most of the extras could fit onto one disc. Hot Fuzz is longer, so we'll either get a double-disc, a single-disc with severely reduced extras, or both.
I hate it when I'm right.
Quote:
The film itself will be presented in anamorphic widescreen, along with an English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround track. Extras will include audio commentary, deleted scenes, outtakes, an exclusive Fuzzball Rally feature, a Man Who Would Be Fuzz feature, a Hot Funk feature, and more.
I wanted "Dead Right", dammit.

Me too. I guess the commentary they're keeping is the Wright/Pegg one. Honestly I doubt I'd listen to the others that often anyways, but it still sucks.

If anyone knows where one can acquire this for less than $35 shipped, you'll be a new hero 'round these parts. Currently, it's going for like $45+ with shipping to the US of A.
Amoeba should have it shortly after it streets...
I'm going to hold off until they announce the features for the HD-DVD. Hell, I'll probably end up with that and this r2 set. Xploited Cinema, time to jump in and save the day..

I got mine for £13.60 from Amazon UK, with an extra £5 for shipping. So that's about 37 of our sad, worthless dollars.

I thought this might be the case, but I've been a couple times and they just don't have it. Which is completely weird. I asked about it, but was met with feigning indifference by the guy (and gal at a later visit) behind the Information counter upstairs. They kept pulling me towards the Region 1 release date, and I kept saying "no, no, no, the Region 2 DVD. That's what I want."

Anyway, I'm glad I waited, since I found out it was on sale over at Amazon.co.uk and I got the whole shebang for about $26 and that was with shipping. That's a fucking steal, considering I've watched it about 4 times since getting it super-ridiculously quick.

I really can't see even getting the Region 1 release now since this disc is super-stacked with too many great items that are going to be left out of the US release - like the featurettes and blog items and general shenanigans that pulsate out of it at 3,000 mph. One great item I discovered was that Peter Jackson was the Santa that stabs Pegg. Genius.

Another major thing is the commentary tracks - which are deceiving. One is with Pegg and Wright, the other with the ACTORS who play the Sandford village people (like Timothy motherfucking Dalton and Paul Freeman), and the other with the ACTORS that play the police - like Considine, etc. Those won't be on your Region 1 disc.

While not trying to sound over fanboy-ish, this might be in my top 10 of all time. Jesus Christ. The re-watchability factor on this thing is mighty high.

I guess what I'm trying to say to everyone is buy the DVD in one form or another.

I went on Friday the 14th and asked, they said check back Monday, which I didn't. Called them the following Saturday and initially got the "Doesn't come out until July 31st" response, and after telling the guy that I meant the UK import he said that they'd gotten five copies in, and had sold out. Went with Amazon.co.uk after that, and the damn thing won't ship until this coming Monday.
Just giving a heads-up, if true, very cool for us region 1 people who are getting the shaft...
Edgar Wright is saying Wal-Mart will have an exclusive edition of Hot Fuzz that will be on par with the R2 DVD. Hopefully it's true.

Link to Wright's Myspace blog.
It may include the additional supplements, but likely will be missing the three additional commentaries.
Well I'm hoping for the best. The main extra I'm after is Wright's short film, although yes, the commentaries would indeed be nice.
If you go region free not only can you get that, the extra commentaries on Shaun, but also Spaced.

Yeah, I'm just too poor to get a new player right now, and it wasn't so long ago that I replaced my old player. Next one I get, I'll be going region-free for sure.

Oh, and I have Spaced, wonderful show, but the quality leaves something to be desired.

I, uh, found it somewhere...
in the...
yard.
Yeah, that's the ticket.

Have you tried hacking your current DVD player to play region free? That's what I did with mine I imported Spaced and it workds just fine.

Anybody know the deal with these special features? Is the HD version seriously loaded with that much more stuff? Shit.

From today's SPECIAL EDITION:

Quite strangely, the advertising for the HD-DVD version includes the same special features as the regular DVD version, plus a whole shit load more. I don’t know if that is an error, or if those who have chosen the high definition format get more extras now. I have a PlayStation 3 with the Blu-Ray player but that really does me no good here, so that just sucks. Either way, this movie is one that needs to be in everyone’s collection.

I think Universal calls it "fucking the consumer" They could have made the standard DVD a two disc, or optional two disc and included more of the features and all the commentaries, as was done in the UK, but instead they put all the features on the HD version. Hey, the backed exclusively the format that the majority thinks is going to fail, so they gotta do something.
So, I go to WalMart at lunch to pick up the "two-pack" of Hot Fuzz and the bonus DVD. Howevah...the only two packs I can find are Full Screen, and I don't see any shelf spaces for a WS copy with the extra disc.

Are you fucking kidding me? The only way you can get the bonus disc is with the FS version? I didn't buy anything at the time, as I'm going to another WalMart near my destination this evening. If this turns out to be the same way, I'm going to be highly pissed. The WalMart website doesn't even list the bonus disc.

I guess, if worst comes to worst, I could buy the two-set, open that wrapper, then return the FS version for a WS version. It's all the same price.

DAMN IT!!!!!!!!!!! Why didn't I think of that!!!!!!!!!!! Fuckity-fuck-fuck-fuck.

I gave in and bought full screen and was so excited to see it I just watched it. Damn, damn, damn.....
That's what I suggested to the manager at Wal Mart that I was going to do. He saw it my way, opened the shrink wrap, and swapped the cases. You could probably still exchange it, SD. Just bring it back and say the disc didn't work or you grabbed the wrong one and didn't notice until it was already open. I mean the fucking writing of Full Screen and Wide Screen is tiny on the case anyway.
I bought the set, didn't even notice it said fucking fullscreen, it so small. I am gonna see if I can exchange the fullscreen for the widescreen. I wonder if they'll let me do it without the bonus disc.
Do you even need a receipt to return at Wal Mart? Just make sure you take off the blank sticker covering the bar code on the back.

Also, make sure you get one of those old lady greeters to put a return sticker on it at the door. I walked into WALMART to return a Torque FS to get a WS and walked past the granny who was investigating a cart that beeped on the way out, and ended up waiting 20 minutes (on top of the 15 minutes in line)= so they could verify I didn't steal the dvd (grab it off their shelves) and try to exchange it for a freebee. And they didn't even have the WS version, so they gave me $4 and change in store credit.

I would not go through all that trouble to steal a $10 disc, when I have the internet & a PC at home. Morons.
Too late, just got back from there. I didn't notice the blank sticker on the back, so they wouldn't let me exchange it. I just got my money and am going to import the fucking R2 DVD.
Have to say the extras on the R2 and R4 versions are well worth the trouble. I nearly threw up I was laughing so hard at the Sandford Old Codgers Commentary.
I just checked out Edgar Wright's MySpace

Quote:
Am getting to the bottom of the Wal Mart conspiracy. Apparently there are Widescreen versions of the 2pak, but Wal Mart order 65 percent fullscreen editions.

Hopefully the WS version will show up on their website.

Have been on the case with Universal so will let you know.
65% my ass.

ALL are fullscreen.

I hate Wal-Mart soooo much right now. And I already hated Wal-Mart, so I'm off the fucking handle. No joke, I went to 7 fucking Wal-Marts, in between 2 and 9 PM.

I've been out of town, and bought the 2 pack in Jersey(not even seeing it was fullscreen, and usually I notice that immediately). Like a fucking idiot I ripped it open, and then realized. No problem, they must have widescreen ones, right? Even with it ripped open I could probably still exchange it. That's when I began my southern drive and hit up every one I saw. ALL are fullscreen. I even asked a few employees to check in the back but they said they're all they have. One employee mentioned how the fullscreen ones were anamorphic, and thus, exactly what I was after.

4 state's worth of Wal-Marts... in like 6 hours... I feel like Fabfunking the shit out of Sam Walton right now.

*deep breaths... counts to ten*

So... I did some checking, the UPC digits on the back are the same as the fullscreen copies I saw in Target and Best Buy. It's individually sealed as well, but, there's no normal "white/clear DVD labeling sticker"(the ones that suck and usually come in 3's). Since the UPC's match up, and most WM employees know jack shit about DVD's, I think I could pull off a refund without a receipt in a few weeks(I've done it with shirts and stuff before, even ones I had bought in other states).

If that fails, hopefully I can get 10 bucks on ebay, or give it to a foolish, foolish friend who hates how "widescreen cuts off the top and bottom". I ended up buying the widescreen too. From Wal-Mart. I feel dirty. It was cheaper everywhere else but I'd driven too fucking far to backtrack to a Target or whatnot.

Sorry about this rant. You guys have said the same shit but I had to get it off my chest. I need sleep.

Or maybe I'll just watch Hot Fuzz and the gloriousness will wash away my tears.
I'm going to give it a shot today or tomorrow. I'm promising myself I'm going to ONE fucking Wal-Mart though. I hate headaches.

I'm in the middle of doing that right now. EDIT: And now it's done. $30 delivered from Amazon.co.uk.

I spoke with the 'guy in charge of the electronics department' and told him, "Look, I want the extra DVD, but I don't want fullscreen. Can you crack open the set and let me swap it?" His response? "No." I said, "Yes." And he just stared at me and said, "No." Not "I'm sorry, I can't" or "They won't let us" or something like that, just "No." So I put the WS version down and said, "Well, I'd rather take a shot to the nuts than buy the fullscreen version of anything, so I guess I'll order the DVD from the UK to get the extras. Thanks for nothing." I still haven't opened the WS version--if there was a closer place (I stopped at 9 PM on my way home last night), I would've gone there and bought the WS version. I guarantee Best Buy wouldn't have pulled shit like this (not that I'm endorsing them either).
I've checked two Wal-Marts, and the only thing they're selling is FS. There isn't even a SKU on the shelves for a WS combo pack.

Assholes. And by that, I mean not only Wal-Mart, but the mouthbreathers who complain about letterboxing, prompting Wal-Mart to sell them.
Watched it yesterday after I picked it up from Best Buy. The look on Pegg's face as he watches the Romeo + Juliet stage production is gonna be my new avatar for a while.
I just bypassed the whole fullscreen vs. widescreen walmart fiasco and went to pick up the single disc from best buy. While I was there I decided to grab a copy of The Host as well. Bizzarely enough (and I don't know if it was just this store or all stores) but they had some weird bastard version of The Host DVD which only contained one disc and a dubbed audio track; no korean original. The fuck.

I generally never shop at HMV due to their higher prices but at least they had the proper editions of both films available. As an added bonus they had the two disc edition of Street Trash. I guess I'm shopping at HMV from now on.

edit: also, I find myself humming the music from the final showdown all damn day. I love the Fuzz.
I hate having the full screen (it will be traded in soon) but I love the shit out of the extra stuff on the second Wal Mart disc. I hate Wal Mart for forcing a buy of a full screen movie to get all the extra stuff.

Here is what is on the second Wal Mart disc:
  • Conclusive: Making-Of Documentary
  • Speculative: Video Blogs
  • An Edgar Wright early film called "Dead Right"
  • AM Blam: Making Dead Right
  • Forensic Featurettes
    Art Department
    Friends and Family
    Cranks, Cranes & Controlled Chaos
    Here Come the Fuzz
    Return to Sandford
    Edgar & Simon's Flip Chart
    Simon Mugs
    Sergeant Fisher's Perfect Sunday
  • Photo Galleries
  • Hearsay: Plot Hole Comparisons
  • Special Effects: Before and After
I'm tellin' you, SD. The employees at Wal Mart are rubes. Just remove the sticker covering the actual UPC. Bring it back. Exchange it for the Widescreen. Don't let them get away with it by keeping that Fool Screen.
I looked at the Wal-Mart set today, and I THINK the extras are the same as the R2 2nd disc that I have at home, but I'm not certain. I did note, however, that it says "an EDITED version" of "Dead Right". The film does have a good bit of harsh language. Has anyone watched it on the Wal-Mart disc yet? I'm curious as to what kind of editing occurred...

All I noticed were FS sets at my store, too.
I forgot about the sticker, I was prretty much home free, I had my WS. Then when girl behind the counter tried to scan it, I realized the fucking sticker. Though I am going to check another Wal-Mart tomarrow, since I'm gonna be in the area, maybe I'll be a lucky Charlie Bucket as Edgar Wright said and find a WS. If not I'll be getting me that R2 DVD.

HD-DVD still exists? And here I thought Blu-Ray destroyed the competition.

If it had been released in Blu-Ray, I would have bought it for the extras, though.

Orlando Chewers: picked up the 2-disc WIDESCREEN Walmart edition at the Walmart on 436 (in Winter Park) and I didn't have to hunt for it! Sorry I didn't check to see how many they had...

Saints be praised. This blind pig found his truffle today! But they didn't have the 2 disc 300... they had the one-disc packaged with Alexander of all things. As if anyone really wants Alexander, they have the FS version in the 2 pack, regardless if it's the WS or FS 300. WTF.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only person annoyed by the Walmart idiocy. Honestly, who exactly is this set catering to? What sort of person likes a movie enough to actually watch a disc full of extras but still refuses to watch the movie in its original aspect ratio? It's almost like some scheme to force the real fans to buy both versions, one for the extras and one for the actual movie.

Well the problem is both the single disc and the 2-pack are the same exact price, so average joe Wal-Mart shopper would obviously go for the "free extra". Chances are, many of them will never watch the disc. Even worse, I'm sure there are some people who are pissed they got the widescreen version of the 2-pack by mistake.

Wal-Mart should have just fucking gone all-out with this special, made it so the single disc wasn't even available, and made the widescreen/fullscreen ratio more like 50/50. And also, mark the fucking packaging better. I love how places like Wal-Mart throw so many fullscreen films at people while they try to sell you a shitty widescreen HDTV.

Actually, scratch that last paragraph. Universal should have just sold a seperate double-disc edition like most studios are doing now. Sure, you pay a few bucks more, but you can stay the fuck out of Wal-Mart and not deal with a disc/case that has "I BOUGHT THIS AT WAL-MART, MOTHERFUCKAAA!" plastered all over it*.

Yes, I'm still angry about this whole thing.

*speaking of this, I hope some internet Photoshop-masters are currently working on some new art for the Wal-Mart disc.

EDIT- Showvillain, your avatar is freaking me out. Nice.
EDIT 2: THE SEQUEL!-

The license plates on the cars are understandably blurred. This could be it, although you'd have to ask someone who's seen both this and the region 2 version to be sure.

At the Wal-Mart near me, the single disc was $14, while the 2-pack was $20.

Not the best idea. Universal really goes out of their way to make sure the 2-disc edition really is a collector's item. IF you were able to find it during the first week, you'd have shelled out $30-$35. After that, you'd have to resort to paying outlandish prices on eBay.
