No sir, the plates are blurred on the R2 version I watched. Uh... how's the language? "Plenty of F's and S's", as they say in the intro? Maybe we could compare running times of the two Dead Rights?

Good news times two.

1) Simon Pegg is on Conan O'Brien tonight promoting the DVD. The other guest? One Jackie Chan!

2) Wal Mart finally have the W/S 2 pack on their website available to order...

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=6527776

Go get it!
The problem is all the Widescreens have already sold out.

It's too bad that Walmart didn't just have the bonus disc in a completely separate package so that people could just take one (or not take one if they wanted the movie but didn't have any interest in extras) regardless of which version of the movie they wanted to buy.

Also, am I just being paranoid, or did it seem like too much of a coincidence that the tiny "full screen" label on the Hot Fuzz DVD, which is already almost invisible anyway, is at the exact height to be hidden behind the little metal bar that goes across the front of the shelving (those stupid spring-loaded things) at Walmart?

I'm debating getting the R2 release just to not bother with all this Walmart bullshit. I'll go check their store, but I'll be damned if I have to buy two separate releases just to get the features and the correct aspect ratio. Maybe I'm just being impatient. Guess I'll check that link to see if it's back in stock anytime soon.

If you can watch R2, get it. There is more on it than on the 2 discs from Wal Mart anyway.

The big problem with doing THAT though is by buying the pan'n'suck version, you're putting a tick in the fucking full screen sales column, which they can wheel out to justify stocking the fucking attrocities in the first place.

The instant I found out we were getting raped on extras in region 1, I pre-ordered the region 2. One of the best DVD's I've ever bought. My set top DVD isn't region free (and can't be hacked to be sadly), but my PC's are all region free. Higher def screen anyway.

And they can shove their bonus WalMart shit. Doesn't replace the 3 missing commentaries. Universal are assholes.

Incidently, I just came back from a get together of a family friend, and he was roasting a full pig on a spit. I couldn't help but think, if that motherfucker blinks at me, I'm gonna have to stab him in the head. He didn't and he was delicious.

P.S.
I apparently almost got hit in the face with some fireworks, and didn't even notice. It was a fucked up night.

I've got a decent PC hooked up to my TV, so it shouldn't be an issue, but I think I'd rather have the US version around, since conversion from PAL to NTSC is not without its issues.

So, say I was to procure the R2 version, where should I do it? I was just going to go through amazon.co.uk, but it'd be about $30 including shipping. Can I find it any cheaper without worrying about reliability?

No such luck. At least, none listed as region 2, and none selling the DVD from the UK.

Did you check Hot Fuzz 2-disc, it should come up for that.

Great flick (missed it in theaters). As for technicals, the picture and audio quality of the HD-DVD were top freaking notch. Best I've seen to date on both fronts.

One thing I loved and hated about this film - the countless jokes that if you're not really paying attention, you will easily miss. It seems like a hard film to watch with a group, with the exception of the last 20 minutes. I'm sure I missed a lot - which makes repeat viewings more worthwhile, I suppose.

Well, it looks like Universal is continuing its baffling and rather infuriating DVD practices.

Could be because the HD sold well. Either way, I'm glad we're getting it.

Those motherfuckers, I bought the Wal-Mart set. I guess I'll be double dipping for this,.

Strangely enough, I went to a Hot Fuzz track here at Dragon*Con tonight, and ended up sitting on the panel to discuss it. The one leader of the panel had her co-hosts not show up, and we were chatting with her while we were all waiting, and she decided to go ahead and start. She recruited a friend in the audience, and then asked me if I'd like to sit in, which I did. Another person joined us about 10 minutes in. It was fun. The panel leader just asked us our opinions on the film, our favorite scenes, characters, etc., how it compared to "Shaun" and how it ranked overall as a buddy-action flick. I had a good time doing it and hopefully didn't embarrass myself (my wife said I did a good job). And I pimped the good name of "CHUD.com" as much as I could.

I love this movie but unless I can get this newer release dirt cheap I am gonna stick with the one I just bought a month ago. What a bunch of horseshit.
So I guess there's no point in getting Knocked Up this month since Universal is just going to fuck us in a matter of months.
Blah. I just received my copy of the R2 DVD in the mail, and I already purchased the normal (non-Wal-Mart) widescreen version. I think I'll stick with what I have.
