American Cancer Society Donations please

Perhaps if that group actually did something worthwhile, like, say, publically condemn and shame the pharmaceutical companies for not further financing the work going on at places like the University of Alberta because they can't figure out how to profit from it, I'd donate.

But they don't. So no. (And before anyone starts up any "you've obviously never been affected" arguments or anything like that, my father has cancer, his next door neighbour who is wonderful has cancer, and my father-in-law died of the disease too.)

I gotta agree with Boney - I worked for ACS for a long time and was disgusted at the enormous waste of funds that goes on there, not to mention the fact that the board is made up almost entirely of Big Pharma talking heads. I'm not saying that they do no good, but sadly, they could do so much more to help.

If y'all really wanna help people with cancer and other diseases, find a local organization that pays rent/bills/medication/etc for patients. In my experience, the smaller groups make more of a difference in peoples' lives than the big ones.

well thanks again, however my place of employment is doing Relay For Life regardless of the shortcomings of the ACS.
