Greatest trailer ever!

So I'm scanning the Tribeca Film Festival listings and came across a film called Taxidermia. The trailer is the funniest, yet sickest thing I've seen in quite a long time, and features a man shooting fire out of his penis, another man vomiting into a sausage maker machine, and other quite fascinating scenes. The last showing of this is today at 7:15 p.m., but unfortunately its sold out. Man I wish I knew about this film earlier. I doubt it will ever see a domestic release.

Check out the trailer HERE.

Yeah, waiting patiently for a DVD announcement from Tartan Films.

The brief blurb from last year's Toronto coverage:

I was already feeling funky this morning when I leapt out of bed to get uptown in time to catch Taxidermia, and the movie wasn't one to put my sense of well-being more at ease. After loads of vomiting, close-ups of sliced flesh and even a man ejaculating the stars into the sky, I concluded that the film might not be for everyone. With more story it would sit better with me, though you'll never see anything quite like it.

The full review isn't linked (like a lot of them from that fest) so I'll have to find the original and re-up.

The movie is visually fantastic, but the story is really thin. If visuals are enough, it's worth it. See his first effort, too: HUKKLE.

We also had a news item linking to that trailer sometime last year.

This movie is full-out brilliant. Yeah, there's very little story, but who cares? Fits nicely in the "beauty in ugliness" category of challenging foreign cinema, which we don't see enough of.

It's a hungarian film by a really talented young hungarian filmmaker, György Pálfi. To be honest, as a hungarian, I've grown tired of these films: false art movies that try to make people think that they're more than they seem by bringing up our communist/socialist past, or dwelling on the misery of it's protagonists.
Frankly, this movie got more publicity because of it's director and it's subject matter (it's based on a popular-but-only-because-of-it's-shock value book), but movies on this level of entertainment get released by tons here, because for one, the filmmakers aren't given enough money to make "blockbusters", and two, everyone thinks that they have something to say, when they rarely do. The only hungarian film I can recall from recent memory that was satisfying in every way, and is my favorite by far, is Kontroll, which thankfully got a lot of love on Chud.
So not to burst your bubble or anything, but don't be surprised if you go see this movie and get a pretentious, well made, but ultimately bad film.

Really? I don't know how I missed that. I always check the front page before going to the boards. I know there's an upgrade happening soon, but as it stands the layout of the news on the front page makes it hard for people to stay updated. Because of the constant coverage (I'm not complaining about this), if you miss a day all the previous day's news is already at the bottom of the page or pushed off it altogether.
