Clemens a Yankee. Again.

Clemens just announced he was returning to the Yankees. That was weird.

Go SOX.

So much for being all about the family. It's all about the money. Not shocking but I'm so sick of him.

It had a bizarre, pro wrestling feel. After the seventh inning stretch , there he was, in the owner's box, with a mic, where he announced to the fans that he would see them shortly.

Hmmm....I would have guessed that if he was leaving Houston, it would be for the Sox. Maybe Epstein refused to give in to his preposterous perk package demands.
I'm sure it's really hard on his family for him to be gone for a few months while he earns 15 million dollars.

I still don't get why its so reprehensible for athletes to, you know, want the best deal for themselves.

Anyway, this was all but inevitable. The Yankee starting rotation is in shambles, they have the money, and neither the Astros, nor the RedSox, are anywhere near as desperate.

But Clemens was all about the family in Houston. Not traveling with team unless he was starting. Saying he signed with them to play with his kid. All bullshit. Make the money but leave the family excuses out of it.

you my good sir must not have seen to many 'stros games this year. They, in a word, suck. Another sad year ahead of me at the ballpark.
Yeah this is no big loss for the Sox. They don't need a 44-year old that went 7-6 last year. Our rotation is fine for the most part.
Clemens is better than Julian Tavarez. Both are dicks too.
Yes, that is true. Roger Clemens is better than our worst pitcher.

And who won the division in 2006, 2005, 2004, 2003...

Yankees seem to always come back. And it's not like the Red Sox weren't after him. They just lost out to the Yanks again.

Ultimately you may be right- and I don't think it's a big loss for the Sox, except in that it could be a big gain for the Yanks... but to bring up Clemens age and record last year is dumb. Thus far at least, he has proven that being in his 40's isn't slowing him down, and the Yanks are unlikely to score one run a game for him like the Astros always did.

As for the family issues- again, being gone for a few months while you make enough money to guarantee yet another generation of your family doesn't have to work a day in their lives is not a fucking hardship on them. And the deals Clemens makes, like not travelling when he didn't have to start while in Houston was clearly for no reason other than spending time with his family, but he got criticized for that too. The guy by all accounts is an egotistical dick, but that doesn't mean he's more interested in money than his family.

Believe me, being a Sox fan, I know what I have ahead of me. And I know the Sox definitely were looking to get Clemens back. It would have made for a nice little story about how Clemens started and finished his career on the Red Sox, but it didn't happen, and I think we'll figure out a way to survive without him.

As opposed to the rest of the volunteer ballplayers out there.

But they don't push their family out as reasons. Just like MJ retired to spend more time with his family(baseball, golf, women) it's a tired reason.

Clemens painted himself as playing for the Astros to be close to home which was a lie. Every story when he signed with the Asros was about family. It's not about the money but him being a phony.

What I want to know is are Roger Clemens and Andy Petite gay lovers or something once Petite signed with the Yanks it was a forgone conclusion that Roger was going back to New York.

I predict Clemens' career will (FINALLY) come to a fitting end: Blowing out his arm like a tool while wearing Yankee pinstripes inside Fenway Park.

What's with all this lingering Red Sox hate? They won the World Series, remember?

And Red Sox Nation won't let anyone forget that.

Who can blame them (besides bitter Yankees fans)?

And when, you know, anyone else takes a job for higher pay, it clearly has nothing to do with what that money could do for their family. I mean, Roger Clemens clearly plans on spending it all on hookers and booze.

Buckner does belong in the Hall of Fame, though.

I'm fairly certain that lack of run support played a huge roll in that record. I'm glad he's back in pinstripes. I just hope the Yanks use him as their new strength and conditioning coach too.

That's an astronomical contract for a 24-plus-1 guy.

That's the state of pitching these days.

Click on the link to the right that says "Roger Clemens is back". Susyn Waldman just won my "most unprofessional broadcaster in the history of the universe" award.

Have you ever heard Michael Kay do a game? The Yankees go out of their way to find homers for their broadcasts/telecasts, that was just par for the course.

Although, I will admit one conceit, I do find John Sterling to be pretty amusing.
I remember a few years back that even though Clemens was wanting to stay close to his family and was happy staying in Houston, there were reports his own family was all ready telling him to go. It seemed that the family had a happy arrangement with him playing with some other team and them living in Houston.

Who knows, maybe the family were the ones pushing him out the door? I know couples that are happier if they live apart most of the time. When the couple lives together, they start to get on each other's nerves quickly and things go downhill fast after that.

Must not listen to many broadcasts. Seriously, if this wasn't the Yankees, I doubt so many people would give a shit. Certainly not so many sour grapes up in Boston.

I don't listen to many broadcasters, for just about any sport. I typically find them to be insufferable bores (Joe Morgan, Tim McCarver, Paul Maguire, Joe Theisman) or obnoxious loons (Marv Albert, Dick Vitale, the Chicago White Sox announcers). I normally watch sports on mute or very low volume, and often listen to music.
