First time I saw John Cusack I started to pray that this wouldn't be emberassing for him. Apparently, God's away on business.

Sammy Jackson's "I warned you about 1408" is so on the nose that it makes me laugh everytime I think about it. We play that trailer at Blockbuster and it's become our store's catchphrase.

This has been getting great word of mouth, Ripoll.

Plus, there is no God anyway.

If this turns out to be legitimately good*, I will be the happiest person for it, especially if it revitalized Cusack's career. But it looks pretty generic and overacted.

*And I don't mean "kinda interesting", like Identity.

It looks interesting and fun, but mostly because every time I see the trailer, it's just like watching a 3 minute version of the movie.

Yeah, that's why I tried to warn people with the trailer. I almost wish I had gone into it not having seen all of that. And yeah, I somehow have never read the story.

And c'mon Ripoll, Identity is a lot better than you give it credit. Although I guess I'm one of the few that dug the ending...

It was ok, and it's been a while since I saw it so I'll admit that it may deserve another go-around, but I wasn't a fan.

So how is it, Alex?
I know that I found the story to be one of King's weakest.

Really? I dug that story, I thought it had a nice, creepy vibe and I dug how the hotel room was balls out in pushing him to insanity rather than any kind of subtle. I'd be more interested in the flick if they hadn't thrown in a plotline featuring a dead daughter with screams J-horror ripoff to me, I fucking hate creepy preteens (in the sense that they're boring and worthless, not that they scare me).

I'll be interested to see the early reviews

Didn't see it- sorry if you took that the wrong way. Looking into being able to see it before release to let you guys know, though.

Agreed. In fact, I find it to be one of the more effective examples of latter day King (which I admit isn't saying very much). Moreover, while "Crouch End" gets talked up, I find this to be a better incursion into the Lovecraftian realm. Also, I'm kinda digging the trailer.

I'm just curious...does anyone get hit by a car in this one?
Steven King did.

I avoided watching the trailer (for fear of spoilers), but it sounds like Shining-lite. Madness at a hotel, dead girl, etc.

I do love me some Cusack and Lovecraftian horror though, so I'll give it a watch (untainted hopefully). Can't be worse than Secret Window...

Glad to hear this is moved up cause I am looking forward to it. I agree that it is one of King's better recent stories. Find it more in the Lovecraft vein than Shining vein despite the hotel setting. Anyway they can't possibly do worse than the Crouch End adaptation on the Nightmares & Dreamscapes cable series. Glad it will be in theaters and hopefully nastier for it. Same with The Mist-- do you think there wil be a Mist trailer with this??

in the Everythings Eventual intro to this story, King does say he at first only intended it to be an example for the appendix of his On Writing book, which he was writing when he got run over by a 1985 Dodge Caravan

This story isn't even that great, but there's no way this movie does it justice. It's certainly not unfilmable... but like 30 days of night, this could be a very cool 20 minute short.

I always thought the story "Everything's Eventual" (the title story for the collection that also features "1408") could make a good movie...it's a little Scanners-ish I guess (or at least very Cronenberg-esque), but in the right hands it could be pretty great.
