Man, just when I thought this game couldn't get any better, the guys over at 1UP cracked the beta to control all the game type options. And some of the new stuff? You can control character speed and gravity. While you could do the same thing in 007: Agent Under Fire (along with fire a webline and use a jetpack; man that game was underrated), it's great to see the wonderful world of wuxia meet the world of Halo.

Debating movies over voice chat is great, because you can reinforce your argument by both interrupting the other person and being louder. Can't do that here.

And maybe charging straight down the middle of the map unloading an assault rifle wasn't a good idea. Maybe if I do it while screaming, I'll frighten them into giving up the flag. They'll be all "Holy shit, this guy's serious!" and run.

I need to learn the ins and outs of the starter gun. Since I can only manage to live for 5 to 10 seconds during Big Team Battles, I need to learn to love the gun I'm born with.

There is no group- usually people just join someone's party. Add the rest of the guys in this thread, they're all cool people (everyone that I've played with, at least)

I'm going to be on tonight in an hour or so. I'll warn you guys though that I've already started drinking and that I'm like the Drunken Master- I get better the more alcohol I consume.

They ALL say that after a few. In reality you can't find your own feet and you start attacking random barrels.

I hope they add some more modes before they finish this beta. We're all going to be fiending for a fix till September.

ill play tonight after a week break..surprised that I didn't play as much as I thought I would. Maybe that legendary preorder wasn't the best idea.

I had a great time playing this weekend, here are some memorable moments:

A player named Maximusfarticus going from "hey its great to find some normal people around here" to "What the fuck is your problem?!? Why the fuck would you not get the flag?!? You are so fucking stupid," over the course of an hour. He kept refering to a place called the "Pelican" on one of the maps. Still have no clue what that means.

Getting sweet revenge on Slut Master after he killed me and said "how does that feel bitch?" I do have to admit I found it amazing that someone using the enlighten moniker of Slut Master would use such language. However, spending 15 minutes of neglecting my teammates just to kill him repeatedly was enjoyable.
(note I'm not sure if it was Slut Master, but it was in that neighborhood)

Hearing someone use the expression "pwned" and not intending it to be a joke.

Raising my rank to "private" over the course of a night and then learning that ranks move into the officer territory. No matter how lame I think my life is, it can't be as bad as the person who spends enough time earning the rank of Colonel.

The woman who used the words "cunt" and "cock" approximately 10 times in the 20 second period before a match. I call her "Lady Halo."

Getting a chance to play with some chewers. As always, great times.

The Pelican is the downed ship on the Valhalla map on the opposite side from the mounted mini-gun, it's right next to territory 1. Maximusfarticus did flip out relatively fast. Funny but sad.

The last game last night pissed me off something fierce. The only thing I hate worse than the racist bigot 12-year-olds are the arrogant winners.

Play a game with Darth and I, we're old pros at pissing off arrogant winners. The game is only half the battle. Take those jackasses and make it fun for yourself.

A++ to the party who quit our team after we got smoked in the first round of a training game of Territories last night, leaving Cassady and me to fend for ourselves. We were thisclose to claiming a territory against six guys at one point.

Not only did they quit, they quit after only giving up 4 territories in the first round. Its not the best showing by any means, but they did even stick around to start round 2. Great showing team.

Also I believe we were robbed as the Sudden Death counter ended a second before we would have had a territory.

This ain't got nothing to do with the Beta, but Microsoft has updated the Halo 3 box art and it's juiced my gid gland, which incidentally is not located in my trousers. Subsequently, it also sparked righteous fury as I was reminded the spring update killed my 360 and saved me from enjoying the beta just in the nick of time. If you haven't seen it, it's right here.

I've got a buddy bringing his 360 so I can at least catch a couple days to suck as I adapt to the Halo 3 controls. Hope to catch a few of you as I don the Spartan codpiece. Senor Chefy if interested.

Anyone else running into problems linking up with people because of a MODERATE NAT connection? Any solutions?

I spent an hour on the with XBox last night and the solution boiled down to, "call your router company and ask them to take down these firewalls." I asked why I couldn't just do that on my computer and he responded, "only they can." Is that true? The advice sounds off.

Also heard my first slur of my Beta experience. And the winner is......the Arabs!

I had a weird glitch last night where I died (surprise!) and respawned but the screen stayed dark except for a few hazy colors on the left side of the screen. The sound worked fine and I could bring up the pause screen but no gameplay. I quit the match and everything was back to normal.

It'd be good to get a big CHUD game in the next couple days before the beta is taken away. I fear a team comprised of Alex, Matchstick, and Lucas, though. They are good.

I had a similar glitch hit last night on both ends. Once the screen went black and all of a sudden the round ended (territories) and they had picked up all 5 territories. The other time the other team was frozen, while my team freely moved about.

For anyone who wants to spend one last night Beta testing, I'll be online (JLCQuest).

Why the hell's everyone playing Halo 2? 3 more hours of Halo 3, guys!

Okay, well I won't be playing anymore, anyway(I assume it goes to 12 AM Pacific time).

My best experience(oddly enough) of the entire beta was joining a team training game on High Ground, having my entire team quit, then fucking around on the map with the opposing team. They shot me a few times, but they were all friends who had partied up. Next thing I knew we had all 4 mongeese riding around(and playing chicken) with a 5th player setting the boost pad in different spots(and shooting rockets at us). Good fun, I can't wait for custom games.

I also got many a triple kill(and one quad, no idea how that happened, as I didn't see it) on Valhala with the mines. Unfortunately I also got my fair share of betrayals with those damn things.

My main complaints are that the power drainer isn't strong enough(and this coming from someone who fucked himself over with it quite a few times), and Snowbound needs a good bit of work.

I wish I was still playing, but I don't even have a 360, and haven't played since Friday. I'm feeming already.

Ha. That fucking power drainer is more harm than help if you ask me.

Aaaaaand it's over. Last two games of the night were really great, as everyone seemed to just be enjoying their last moments with the Beta. Also, Shadowrun splash screen "Hey the Halo Beta has finished, why not go buy our overpriced and underdeveloped FPS now?" pimpage confirmed.

The games with Chewers were always enjoyable, even if I didn't hook up my headset to chat. Hopefully I'll get used to using one before September.

So far, so very far indeed.

We went to Halo 2 because Halo 3 was booting us a lot towards the end of the beta. After I downloaded all of the maps (which took me foreverlong), we played Team Slayer. And got destroyed and made fun of.

Earlier in the evening I played a team battle (4 players on a team) in which one team member explained to us "Alright assholes, I NEED some kills so don't fuck this up for me." Do you really need kills? Putting aside the obvious that it's video game and blah, blah, blah, this was a Beta test and I'm pretty sure that Bungie would be wiping the slate clean so no one really needed kills.

With that in mind we laughed thinking the guy was making a joke. However, as the gaming world has sadly proven, this was no joke. We spent the next 15minutes, while way ahead in kills, getting screamed at for "stealing kills", "poor assisting" (assisting?) and generally "fucking him over."

Our payback, knowing that our lead was insurmountable we spent the last 3 minutes shooting the guy in the back. It wasn't discussed between the other teammates, we just acted on some sort of mutinous instinct. What a wonderful course of events.

Everyone with "Texas" or some derivation of "Texas" in your screen name, kill yourself. Now.

Even prior to meeting up with those guys I was getting bounced out of half my matches. Going back to Halo 2 amazed me to see gamers that were bigger douchebags than those I encountered in the Halo 3 Beta.

And who's teaching kids how to trash talk today? "you have no friends" and "fag" are pretty piss poor excuses for trash talk.

I don't know, the beta was working fine for me last night. Since all you guys were playing 2, I just muted everyone and played some Slayer matches. More fun that way... and actually won a few games.

I'd be down for some Halo 2 matches this week if anyone's around. Going to have to download all the boards like Matchstick, and man, going to have to relearn how to play using the X button.
