An Official Dracula Sequel?

I'm really not sure how I feel about this. . . .
Dracula meets Jack The Ripper? That sounds like a good time to me. The director of Demon Knight? Not so much.
I rather liked Demon Knight, but for the campy Zane-iness as opposed to any horror elements.

They can call this a "sequel" all they want, but unless someone gets Herbet West to reanimate Stoker out of the grave, and then he actually writes one, it's simply another vampire book.
Sounds interesting but I'm not especially thrilled with the director either. Somebody give Brett Ratner a call.
If this could be used as a step to finally getting the Sherlock Holmes VS Dracula flick made, then it could be a good thing.

As long as Bathory is more Ingrid Pitt and less STAY ALIVE, I'll be happy.

But I think I might be more interested in a Director's Cut of the original book, if that much was missing from it. Unless Stoker wanted the stuff edited out, and not the publisher...

Demon Knight is great - Billy Zane's best perf. Dickerson also helmed one of the best episodes of Masters of Horror: Season 2. A vampire tale, actually. And he directed a bunch of episodes of The Wire.

So, fuck you guys, basically.
Demon Knight is fun.

But I'm also concerned about the casting of Dracula. I've seen some great takes on the character and also abysmal versions before. We don't want another VAN HELSING incident.
Oooo. He directed one of the best episodes of a shitty-ass series and performed as a hired hand on a show that follows a specific template dictated by the writers and producers. I'm totally stoked now.

You are?

That's like a 180.

He also directed Bulletproof starring Wayans-Sandler.

Please add that to your funny comeback.

And was the DP on Do the Right Thing, an incredibly shot film. He also directed the deserted city opening of Romero's Day of the Dead. True story. Romero wasn't there. And I, uh, kind of liked that sequence best...

Edit: But as for the whole "sanctioned sequel" thing, fuck all that. It's got less legitmacy than Gallagher Too.

What funny? I'm pointing out that the guy's track record is mediocre at best.

Pretty much the same deal as "official" Peter pan sequel that's being made. I believe in that case a childrens hospital owned the rights to Peter Pan and the hospital was largely funded by the book (there's a mean joke about boys who never grow up somewhere there) But as the book was on the verge of crossing over to public domain so they sanctioned the first "official" sequel to keep the cash rolling in. I imagine somthing similar is at play here (though I would have though Dracula would have been public domain for a while now).

Demon Knight and Surviving The Game may have been fun, but really, his getting the job shows that no one involved is exactly shooting for a quality horror film.
What we're most likely to get is a cheap, fast and loose, cash-in B-movie, that'll be mildly amusing the first dozen times it airs on Cinemax.

I'm perplexed by what seems to be rabid defense of Dickerson, and I liked "Demon Knight". His resume of mostly various TV shows, and being responsible for Snoop Dogg's "Bones" certainly doesn't put him in the category of directors that demand that sort of fervent support.

Unless your just supporting one of the few Black directors in the genre, I fail to see what would inspire you to take such an affront at Bob's remarks.

Dickerson may not be the greatest director of our time, but the shot he filmed of F. Murray Abraham right after William McNamara fell off that tree is the stuff of legends.

I thought he was being facetious actually.

Wade, do you still have that F. Murray shot Molt speaks of?

Hell, the only reason I brought that up was so Wade would post that gif. I need it bad.

"Official" my ass. I don't give a shit what Stoker's family thinks ("Grandpa would have liked this!"), this is fanfiction.

Now whether it's good, hey I'm open to the possibility.

I read about this a month or so ago... and the name I remember was Javier Bardem for Dracula and Monica Bellucci as Mina Harker- I didn't just dream that, right?

It is public domain, hence all the Hammer Draculas and such. This is just their way of putting their label on it and getting his great-great-great-great-great grandchildren (or whatever) some work, I guess.

Monica? I'm so there.

Ironic career circle for her then with her Coppolla's Bram Stoker character, Matrix character, and now possibly this...

Regardless, it cannot possibly be worse than "The Historian".

The original book had a lot of slow moving crap in it as it was (that part where Mina goes away for awhile & tries to write down all that HEAVILY accented speech the Swales dude was spouting was brutally hard to get through). I shudder to think what ended up on the cutting room floor.

Indeed. Also, the ending of the original book was almost perfect, IMO. I know the Hammer films and such are great fun, bringing Drac back time after time (I was always particularly fond of "Dracula Has Risen from the Grave"; the cross impalement is classic.). But a literary sequel just seems to cheapen the original in a way you don't often see in literature. For some reason, to me it's OK for movies to do, but I seriously balk at a book doing it. I don't think I'd be down w/ a "Frankenstein" sequel, either, and Shelley left the monster wandering in the Arctic, which translates into room for a sequel. But what do I know?

I really liked the guy's entry in Masters of Horror. I just really dug the way he shot it. That coupled with the fact that he did Demon Knight made me want to defend him a bit. Because I'm a movie nerd, bascially. Plus, I didn't even know he directed Surviving the Game until a few minutes ago. Can't we all just be decided: we are excited about this project.

I'm always happy to fill a nnnnnnnnAAAAAAAAAA request.

That's the stuff!
If he can bring a fraction of that to this Dracula movie we'll have a winner on our hands.

Don't forget that superman also took the death of FMA's son pretty hard.

I always feel bad for Abraham's wife when she leaves that message on Rutger Hauer's answering machine.

"Uh, I haven't heard from my husband or son. Could you please call me back?"

All while Hauer is dressing up like a priest.
Well in the end, Rutger GOT HIS.

*Ice-T walks off to "console" F. Murray's widow*
post #37 of 37
Widow convinces Ice-T to retrieve her son's body. Ice gives him a proper burial next to Hank the Bum and that dog that was hit by the car.
