Falwell is dead

Ya know I don't like the idea of anyone dancing on someone's grave but in this case I'll make an exception.

Now if only Castro would bite it some time soon.
I hope he screamed.

Day? MADE.

And if that sound evil, let me share his classic quote about 9/11:

Quote:
I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way, all of them who have tried to secularize America. I point the finger in their face and say 'you helped this happen.
Did someone accidentally play secular music in his presence?
Quiet. Masturbating.

I'm hoping that CBN is working on a way to do a live interview with him tonight. He'll be able to add a lot to Christian programming as an on-the-spot reporter on the other side.
Who's going to fill his shoes as media windbag? That Focus On The Family guy perhaps?

Alls I know is that the Repubs have one less right-wing religious shill to pander to.

"We now have a live feed into the afterlife! Reverend, what's it like up there? Angels? God? Reverend? REVEREND? There's nothing. I got nothing. It's like some sort of void."

Slide comes down: DUE TO THEOLOGICAL DIFFICULTIES CBN IS NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME.
I wonder what he'll do when he finds out all angels are flaming queens.

The world is a little less hateful today.

It's still one less, Hog. It's still one less.

I will say the only good that ever came out of this disgusting bastard was that parody became protected free-speech. Well him and Larry Flynt.

Judging by these responses, I disagree.

Never really liked the guy either, but,

No, a bit much would be me saying that I just shot my load all over my keyboard and screen and in honor of this day I'm never cleaning it off. Not saying I did that, but I do have a good hour before I head off to work so...
It's good to know that he'll spend eternity in Hell being gang-raped by dozens of Teletubbies.

So long and farewell you fat, hypocritical and hate-filled bastard. You will not be missed.
Hey, I'm sitting here at my desk with PAN'S LABYRINTH 2-Disc, THE FOUNTAIN, and BECKET in their packages, and I saved $15 dollars at Best Buy due to a sale and coupons, and I come back to work and see Jerry Falwell is dead. It's been a good day.
Just make sure you guys aren't hating Christians,
only bad people who are Christians.

There are plenty of good ones.
Nordling, I was thinking the same thing. I bought Pan's Labyrinth and The Fountain too but I got Road House instead of Beckett. Falwell dead and classic Swayze? It's been a good day.

A: If you're hiring a guy to be the press officer for a religious organization, how lucky do you have to be when one of the applicant's names turns out to be: GODWIN

B: Even in death, you've got that NewSpeak spin with Falwell having a history of "heart challenges," not "heart problems."

I've had a lot of problems with Falwell for some time, which may be why I'm a bit glib over this. If there IS an after-life and he's a part of it, I still hope he's able to find some peace after learning how much hatred, xenophobia and pain he's caused with his teachings. Faced with a similar circumstance, I don't know if I'd be able to.

In fact, I'd say that would be the definition of an eternity in Hell.
He might have been a misguided asshole, but this guy wasn't Hitler. Reveling in the suffering of his family doesn't add any value for me. Toward the end, he was a big, slow, fat target for secular humanists like me to point out why the religious right is so wrong. We might be worse off without him.

(Hold on, I need to readjust myself- My ass is chaffing on the saddle of my high horse)

stolen from Fark:

Does this mean the Rapture is nigh upon us?
If by Rapture you mean the Halo 3 beta, yes.

We hate his hatred. He hates people for how they were born and for their inability to accept his dominance.
While I wouldn't piss on his grave, I won't mourn his passing either.

Here's hoping that the media doesn't put much emphasis on his death. Much more important news to report, than the death of a hate-filled person.
There's a very good story/interview with Falwell in the Dec. '05 Vanity Fair entitled "American Rapture" by Craig Unger that really goes into Falwell's influence over the current president (particularly in anti-Islamic, Crusade terms), how he and Rove talked every day, why even McCain had to come and eat crow as Falwell was too powerful to step on politically after talking shit about him in 2000 (McCain described Falwell as an "agent of intolerance").

Worth reading in light of all the tumultuous writing that will follow in the next couple of newscycles.
I used to be a born again Christian, so I've got something of a chip on my shoulder when it comes to fundies. I've sipped their kool-aid and I know firsthand what frightening people they are. Are all Christians like that? No ... but fundamentalists of any ilk tend not to think for themselves and let evil fucks like Falwell dictate their opinions. Luckily for me, I grew up.

Truly, I feel bad about rejoicing in this news, but the guy was a total scum-fuck and the world is better off without him. Guys like him and Robertson spent their lives erasing the line between church and state and helped pave the way for the religious right to take over this country. I hope Robertson bites it next.

And to anyone who bemoans how his family must feel ... his family all think he's playing golf with Jesus right now. They're probably celebrating.
It is days like this that I wish I believed in Hell so I could get some sort of satisfaction knowing that worthless fucks like Falwell would spend eternity burning there....but a gal can imagine I guess!

It is. I was released from the hospital all eager to see if Gonzo had started to dribble on the stand or the US had left Iraq or something, but no such luck. Then this! I hope he's enjoying the black void of nonexistence, paradoxical as that is. The man was a cancer on society. It's a shame this didn't happen 25 years ago.

If by 'fill his shoes' you mean 'follow him to the grave', Dobson gets my vote.

Holy shit, I swear when I saw Falwell's fat head on my front page and it said "DEAD", I thought to myself "wow, is this the relieving feeling I'll get when Castro finally dies?"

Feels so nice and tingly.

Pat Robertson is still around for our hilarity needs.

I'm pretty sure the guy had resources coming out of his asshole.

In the end, Falwell was a nonsense-spouting caricature of post-cold war, pre-civil rights movement moralist America. The Hitler comparisons are a bit much.

There isn't one, it's more of that another purveyor of ugliness, bittnerness and general blight on humanity is gone but that another still lives.

Plus I'd like see Cuba at some point in the future.

And BTW regarding that Wiki posting:

SCORE ONE FOR THE INTERNETS!
If only apathy was currency.
Wasn't Falwell a more moderate version of Pat Robertson? Maybe you guys shouldn't be celebrating.
For what he attempted to do to free speech alone, I'm celebrating his death like a motherfucker, never mind the whole bigoted/homophobic/sexist stuff.
Now if only Pat Robertson would follow. Ralph Reed too.

I would imagine the Clintons are secretly doing high-fives as this slanderous, libelous cocksucker is finally silenced.

I got home from work, turned on CNN and this is staring me in the face. My initial reaction was "YES! DAMN RIGHT!", but then I realized that was wrong because, unlike Falwell, I am a good person.
