There is a secret mission somewhere. I haven't read how to trigger it cause I'm trying to avoid spoilers till I finish the campaign. A quick google should help you out.
Argh! Just two more missions to go and I'm stuck at work instead of finishing Starcraft. End you stupid work, end!

I am Blizzard's bitch. And to think that I haven't even tried skirmish (usually my favorite mode in RTSs), the challenges or multiplayer yet.
The challenges are a total time-suck, but in a good way.

The secret mission counts in the final tally. You activate it in the media blitz mission by destroying a science facility in the southeast corner of the map. It's a good mission, too.

Has anyone played through the alternate choice missions? I'm assuming they all play out on the same maps, but with different goals.

I did the alternative mission on Folsom and no they're different maps and goals on that one. Ghosts and Specters have different abilities as well so that factors into the game. I personally found Nova's missions easier, due in part to her abilites.
Thanks for the tip. I happened to be playing Media Blitz at the time and never would have thought to search for it. I'm now starting the bonus mission.
Does anyone else here think the credits song is beyond stupid?
Oh yeah. The actual score is fucking fantastic though.

ETA: After twisting my mind ever since listening to it I found out what was making it stick in my mind so much. It's very Basil Poledouris circa Starship Troopers, which is one of my all time favorite soundtracks.

Yeah, I have to agree on that ....score. (Sorry...). The acutal in-game music is pretty good, although I'd like an option to use other music while playing. Black Flag would be awesome during rushes, for instance.

So, i did that.
And it told me "secret mission unlocked" But where do i go to play it ?
I already finished the campaign so the game only lets me replay all the missions i did before. I have no ship or bridge to select the mission.
Huh... For me, it automatically appeared on the bridge map screen as a new planet option.

I take it you can't fire up a load from earlier in the game?
Yeah fuck, i'll have to wait till i re do the entire game on hard.
Watching SC2 multiplayer with some nice commentary is my new best thing ever. So much stuff going on.

Does any one have any tips for me for the last mission All In? I chose the neautralize their air, so I have the worms to deal with, and man. That's a LOT of zerglings.

I built a group of fliers and went after the worms. That helps a lot. That and perdition turrets. Lots and lots of perdition turrets.
Cool. I worked it out. Built 20 banshees, ten per side and sent them to kill the worms immidiately after they popped up. EXTREAMELY helpful. I set up about five or six siege tanks per side, and then another ten or so mixed infantry on the ground and two or three fire turrets.

Once I started taking out the worms immidately it actully became TOO easy. I didn't need the energy burst on normal.
I placed like 8 bunkers in each choke point. 5 siege tanks and the slow down torret.
A few Thor's and that was it.
If you let the worms live, within about a minute there's literally thousands of zerg on screen. It's INSANE.

Well worth the watch.

Does anyone know if the 1.02 patch fixed the overheating problems with rendering the menus? An easy fix, so I imagine they would. Because that's a real thing, SC2 burned out one of my main Battle.net compatriots vid card.

I chose to get rid of the worms in the previous mission, so I had the pleasure of having to deal with swarms of mutalisks, overlords and fucking annoying broodlords. But in the end it was nothing that spamming turrets, upgraded Goliaths and running around with a huge blob of battlecruisers owning everything on the map couldn't fix.

That's my experience too. I'm going to try it on hard soon.
Just finished All In on hard. Wow.

I liked that they didn't pull punches with the Tychus ending. Who doesn't see them resurrecting him as a villain in the expansions?
The King of Blades?

That would kinda be glorious.
Any battle.net ID's? Feel free to add me, I'm chriscyrek@gmail.com

I'm not super awesome (my main game is WC3:TFT) but the guy I usually play with is really good.
Been playing some 2V2 with a buddy of mine...we suck..so we are in the Bronze ladders. we loaded up and played and was matched up against two Diamond players....lets just say it did not end well for my friend and I.... I thought the ranking system would have you play people in your skill level...or is it still completely random in its match ups?

nwesley@gmail.com is my name...add me
I've been having a blast with a team of my buddies doing quickmatches (and one awesome free for all amongst a group of 6 of us), but my 1v1 experience so far have been humiliating and degrading. I'm 6/1 win as it stands.

This last match I just fired up, I start as usual. Pump out SCVs, make a supply depot, make a barracks. Somewhere near halfway through my first barracks construction, I move up an SVC up a bit into the base to start the 2nd barracks, and I see a couple enemy SCVs, inside my base, making a barracks and a bunker! I attack the remaining SCV with some of mine, but soon enough their first marine is finished, just as I'm about to start my first in the inital barracks. Their marine goes straight to the bunker, and proceeds to fire on my in-construction 2nd barracks. I try to fight him off, but he's one marine ahead of me, and slaughters my SCVs.

A win is a win, but this asshole was seriously lame. Isn't the fun part of the game strategy, and having actual battles, not getting a single marine into the enemy base in as many milliseconds as possible?
Epic win.

Terran Zerg (me and my homeboy) vs. two Terrans. We scout em, see both of em are getting FOUR barracks. We're already geared for harassment and quick expansions (a risky strategy). Both of our main bases get absolutely overrun by nothing but marines. At least 50 marines on each army. I escape with my command center, and my teammate begins to heavily fortify his expansion. Meanwhile our raider squads of Reapers and Mutalisks absolutely decimate their economy.

Tactical chaos ensues, as I repeatedly try to set up a new base, only to get denied again and again by roving marine hordes (they eventually step up to Marauders and Thors). However the distraction allows my teammate to build up fully upgraded Mutalisks and Roaches, and it's [eventually] GG.

High-level play in this game is nuts.
It's obvious to me that a lot of people who play this game think it's enough to build four barracks and just spam marines or zealots into their enemies bases. That might be the case sometimes, but if you can survive the initial attack, and you know what units counter what, you can have a lot of success at a micro level.

For instance, I LOOOVE playing as Zerg and only using Zerglings, Banelings, and Mutalisks agianst marines. You've never lived until you've had a terran player chew you out for completely steam rolling all of those marines it took so much time and money to spawn.

Like Ryan Davis from Giantbomb said, I applaud ingenuity and out of the box thinking. Even if it is fucking CHEAP.
All's fair, although I hate that I have to race to build anti-rush structures no matter what. This is why I generally prefer turn-based strategy to RTS, because when it becomes about hotkey expertise and build order math, the experience verges on unpleasant.

On that note: tlapay@comcast.net
Block your damn ramps people. Supply depots are cheap. You'd be surprised how easily a supply depot, a barracks and a few marines can take care of such early rushes.
Not to mention Protoss have a unit that can create force fields designed to keep ramps clogged up, even if it's only temporary.
I have to agree. Scout your base and secure it! It takes a relatively long time for someone to scout you and build a barracks AND a bunker in your territory. It can be stopped!

Sometimes, it's good to be rushed, cause if you can survive it, your counterattack should be stronger than the enemies defenses due to them concentrating too much on rushing units.
It took me like five games to figure out that those sonar structures stop Protoss from using their cloaks to evade me. There's nothing more irritating than watching your base explode without any resistance! Anyways, if you guys don't mind playing with an amateur, I'll add some of you!
I just learned this the hard way... A long perimeter of anti air turrets which can detect cloaked units, and a line of siege tanks in siege mode is DAMN NEAR IMPOSSIBLE to get by without sheer force of will. Probably the single best Terran defense system if you can get it set up.
Played the secret mission. Probably the best of the game in my book. Loved all the elements in play, the cameras, the choices. And the second part is awesome.

Barely made it alive

Tell me about it. I had to sacrifice all my units just so that my hero unit could survive. HOLD THE LINE!! *runs away*
Not really too sure just how just how we're supposed to get the last few artifacts when things are so hectic on the last part.

Ok, finished the campaign. My thoughts...

- Overall a bit of a disapointment.
- There's some stellar mission design with each having a fairly cool twist.
- However, it's too easy (on Normal at least) to fall back to the good old tactics. Siege Tanks in particular are my most commonly used unit. In nearly all cases, parking them in a good spot (offensively or defensively) is the superior tactic against the computer.
- Warcraft 3 really shames this game. It had the same improved controls, a huge amount of innovation, a fantastic story and 4 campaigns! (+4 in the expansion, including that weird Orc thing).
- I liked the tail end of this game with the Char invasion and the secret mission. Could have come a bit earlier though.
- Apart from Kerrigans transformation and Tychus's betrayel, nothing much happens plotwise. The latter seems rushed and inconsequential.
- The Protoss mini-campaign was sorta cool, but also a bit crammed in. No time to really appreciate the new units.

My bias here is toward the single player. I've played a few MP against friends, but it's nbot really my cup of tea.

I'll probably be up for the two expansions if they aren't too expensive.

Ultimately, after 12 years and all Blizzard have done in WoW/DiabloII, it's hard not to have higher expectations than what we've got.

Edit: Hard mode is enjoyable.
