Has the latest cut of this (The Director's Son's Cut) been released in the US? PIRATES 3 has me thinking of this film.

Pretty sure it hasn't (not that I've ver seen at least). I've got the Region 2 disc, which has that cut on it. It's not that hard to find (and, I know this this doesn't answer your question), but it's pretty stacked and looks great.

Erik the Viking is great, and has been in my Netflix save column for some time. Speaking of mysterious releases of films from 1989 in my save column, Branagh's Henry V just miraculously shifted to my main Netflix queue some time over the last few days. I could never find it on DVD, but apparently amazon.com marketplace now has abundant sellers. I wonder what was up with that.

Why is there a "Director's Son Cut"? Is Terry Jones dead?
His IMDB page doesn't mention anything about that.

One of my favorite movies ever...I used to own it on video, but lost it in the great moving disaster of 2000
:P

So Devin, do you like Erik better than Pirates3?

Pretty sure that'd be a 'yes'.

It's been on my deepdiscount wishlist for a while (some version of it), but it's said "Discontinued" for quite some time. I'm thinking the release was delayed/canceled...

EDIT: Some user comment on amazon: "This DVD is really hard to find, and to make matters worse Sony put together a Director's Cut, but so far never bothered to release it in the United States. If you have a region free DVD there is a Director's Son's Cut available in the U.K. so there is hope. If you do happen to find the rare feature-less U.S. release for any reasonable price I recommend getting it without question since Sony has made no announcements to do any reissues."

I watched this for the Pythons, but found it rather short on laughs.
