Your best movie marathons

I had some friends come over for a BBQ and movie marathon. This was probably the most enjoyable movie lineup I'd ever collected in one day. Check it out (all movies they hadn't seen):

Dog Soldiers
Anchor Man
Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang
The Squid and the Whale
Dark City
The Thing
The Proposition

Their consensus for the best of the day: Dark City.

Gotta love days of gratuitous film indulgence and massive meat consumption.

The most I've done is The Lords of the Rings extended cuts in one day, the first four Batman movies in one day, and the first four Harry Potter movies spread over two days. And the Rocky franchise spread over three days.

I did the first 2 extended rings then went and saw King with a bunch of friends. I guess for me its been fairly random at parties that have movies going. I usually don't sit for most of the. The entire frat enjoyed watching Star Wars 3 while slightly drunk, although the same could be said for any film.

Friends and I did a barbecue a few months ago and we watched, in order:

Bronx Warriors
Zombie 3
2019 After The Fall of New York
Burial Ground
New York Ripper

And an Amir Shervan double feature of Samurai Cop and Hollywood Cop to cap off the night.

On my sixteenth birthday, I attended a twelve-hour Woody Allen marathon at the since-closed Parkside in S.F. God I miss repertory cinema.

Omega Man
Soylent Green
Planet of the Apes

The Charlton Heston Dystopian future trilogy bests all comers.

We did a beer/scotch, burgers, and cars marathon a couple of years ago. I don't remember the exact order, but the movies were:

'Vanishing Point'
'The Driver'
'Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry'
'Ronin'
'Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior'

We zipped through, in some cases, to the car specific parts.

We've done Monty Python-a-thons many times too, usually with a string of the movies and episodes of the TV show. In college, we often did marathons of

'Stripes'
'Fletch'
'Animal House'

Great fun. Lots of alcohol involved. Ah, the good days of yore...

i can remember my first movie marathon. i was 10 years old, on vacation at my aunt's in puerto rico, and she was gone at work during the day so i was stuck in her condo. one day i watched Bloodsport, Critical Condition, Bloodsport, Critical Condition and then Bloodsport. Those were the only two movies i had from the vid store, and i liked em both that damn much. still do. not to that extent though.

i currently find myself balls deep in an impromptu cop-themed marathon of Police Academy 2, The Chase (currently on) and Stander (to be watched after The Chase). Then i'm gonna go see 28 Weeks Later. Guess that kinda kills the cop thing. oh well.

Back when I was in college, before Star Wars was available in any kind of home format, I had a VHS tape on which I'd recorded all three films off of HBO. So every couple of months or so, we'd kill a Saturday watching the whole saga. There'd be maybe ten of us who stuck around for the whole thing, and then a rotating audience who would come and go throughout the run. We'd have pizzas and beer and make up silly drinking games (like a shot every time Luke's voice cracked, it was basically an excuse to get drunk).

My best? Trilogy Tuesday, by a mile.

My longest? I pretty much devoured the entire Nightmare on Elm Street box set, plus the bonuses in a day.

And of course my annual one, which i'm gonna tackle in about 20 minutes, is the entire Star Wars saga, plus Clone Wars.

There is a DVD player in the back seat of my dad's car. So when I went with my family down to Florida for my cousin's graduation I was able to watch ;The Big Lebowski,Lady Vengeance, Apocalpse Now Redux , The Life of Brian, and Monty Python and the Holy Grail. It made being cramped in a vehicle with seven relatives well worth it.

When I graduated high school, some friends of mine got together and we did "Schizopolis", "The Toxic Avenger", "Wet Hot American Summer", "Dead Alive" and "The Evil Dead". That was one rockin' moviefest.

Stealing from the mob night:

Charley Varrick
Across 110th Street
The Outfit

Technically my friends and I never finished this marathon. Or really started it. We always get distracted, and nobody has a vcr to play The Outfit.

Lord of the Rings Extended Cuts
Matrix Trilogy + Animatrix
Alien Quadrilogy
Star Wars Episodes 1-6
Harry Potter 1-4

All of these done over a day each.

With a few university buddies at our dorm, I did a 24-hour action movie marathon. Starting from noon, the lineup was as follows:

DIE HARD
THE DELTA FORCE
BULLETPROOF (the Sandler-Wayans one, I wish it was the Busey one)
COMMANDO
UNDER SIEGE 2: DARK TERRITORY
SUDDEN DEATH
DIE HARD 2
DROP ZONE (we rented this sight-unseen, and it nearly put us all to sleep)
BEVERLY HILLS COP
ROBOCOP
DIE HARD: WITH A VENGEANCE
SPEED
THE ROCK

The following year, we tried again, as I added many new movies to my collection, but we failed and stopped after about 12 or 14 hours.

I did like 5 or 6 twenty-four hour film fests for friends, I have no idea the exact lineups of what we showed, however. The very first one started with The Toxic Avenger and ended with The Toxic Avenger 4. So you kind of get the idea.

i tried to do a full weekend Christmas film festival, and had worked out two 12 hour days of quality holiday programming such as Jingle All the Way, Batman Returns, Ernest Saves Christmas, Muppet Christmas Carol, Home Alone, and a bunch others i can't remember, and then night one would end with a double bill of Black Christmas (original)/Silent Night Deadly Night, and night two was gonna be Lethal Weapon/Die Hard. and we were gonna get sloshed on nog and have a merry fucking good time overall.

alas...it all fell through. gonna try again this year.
