Wasn't PWS Anderson supposed to be (sigh) remaking Death Race 2000?
DEATH RACE is his project this summer. This would be after.

I'm gonna get emails about this story from a couple of people!

So am I. But there's just no arguing for a SPY HUNTER movie.

You know what would be sweet? Say after doing Spy Hunter, he tackles a Double Dragon remake with Ray Park and Cyril Rafaelli as "Billy and Jimmy Lee" and Jessica Alba as "Marian," girlfriend of Billy and Jimmy. In the setting of post-apocalyptic New York, Billy and Jimmy have to rescue Marian from the clutches of The Black Warriors, headed by the machine-gun wielding Shadow Boss, "Willy."

Then, in 2010, Tetris, starring Paul Walker as a square block and Jessica Biel as an L-shaped block.

I'd rather see Biel as Ms PacMan running around a dark room eating little microdots and seeing flashing colors.

You talking about irate Spy Hunter fans or people involved with the movie?

Hello Clarence Beaks. I can argue for a Spy Hunter film. All we know about Spy Hunter is that a spy named Alex Sects drives a car against enemy spies. This means there is no continuity to foil would be Spy Hunter directors. Paul WS Anderson directed Mortal Kombat the best video game adaption yet, though DOA Dead or Alive is a close second. Why couldn't this become a good film franchise. 25 years ago NBC created the series Knight Rider which ran for seasons. Why can't Spy Hunter, a story with a guy and his souped up car, be a hit as well in 2008-2009?

What about SILENT HILL?

Anyone played the Spy Hunter: Nowhere to Run videogame? I read it was mediocre at best and didn't really leave an impression on the game market.

I hope I don't actually need to tell you this, but... there have been numerous modern Spy Hunter games. Which actually do have plots and even a lead character. Shit, the most recent one had The Rock running around as the driver because of his attachment to this film. So there actually is a lot more than just the '80s arcade game.

Even so, I fail to see how this series of games has "fans" let alone requires a movie translation or any sort. Oh look, a cool sleek silver car with weapons in it. It'll be like the "Viper" TV series projected onto a big screen. But I'm open to the idea that this could be turn out to be amusing.

Personally I preferred Resident Evil, the first one, to either of those films. I thought it did a respectable job of translating the wide breadth that is the feel of the games and setting it in the games' universe while still telling a good story. Of course, that one was also directed by Anderson, so this seems to be an arena where he excels. The sequel was pretty much ass however. Not that he directed that one, so I won't hold it against him too much.

DOA was hilarious. Not sure why they made Christie, the completely amoral psycho killer, into a leading protagonist though.

I admit Silent Hill had good reviews, an attractive lead actress and Sean Bean as well. Yet I do not like those kind of horror films. I am much more interested in action/horror like the Blade Trilogy, Hellboy both live action and Direct to DVD animated films as well as Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust.

Metal Slug, King Of Fighters, Street Fighter II, Gauntlet, Spy Hunter, and DOA are some of my favorite games. If any of them could be turned into a good film I am all for it. I am also a huge James Bond fan and Spy Hunter could be the American James Bond franchise that I have been looking forward to since I first read Marvel Comics Nick Fury Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. by Jim Stertenko in the 70's and watched James Camerons True Lies in 1994,

i thought Silent Hill sucked and would still put it above Mortal Kombat. shit, i would even put Doom above MK. And Doom literally put me to sleep. piece of shit.

and DOA? really? i've heard nothing but Gawd Awwwful stuff about it. like burn your eyes awful. did you watch it when it was available on Google Video?

anyway, we all know the video game genre is waiting for its coming out party with the completion of Dr. Boll's "Bad Street Brawler"

I know I did. And I have to say that it's incredibly cheesy and hilarious and full of girl-ogling shots, but i don't consider that a bad thing. Because that pretty much sums up the DOA game franchise as a whole. A good movie on its own merits? Not really, but I can't deny it has faithfulness on its side.

Judging by that pic, I think Boll himself could play the lead. He's already got the receded hairline.

Yes, I saw DOA on Google video. Any problems of DOA Dead or Alive should probably be attributed to The Weinstien Co that delayed Zhang Yimou's Hero, Kill Bill 2, Shaolin Soccer, Legend of Zu sequel, and heavilly edited Drunken Master 2 after they retitled it Legend of the Drunken Master. SPL was also retitled KillZone, ( which sounds like a grade Z horror film).

DOA was directed by Corey Yuen whom also directed So Close, and The Transporter. Yes he also directed The One as well. If the Weinstein brothers did not treat Asian films they owned like 2 day old bread maybe Corey Yuen would have delivered a much more intense DOA then the good yet not great PG 13 film he directed.

Another thing that could have helped DOA was an actual Martial Arts Film Star. Maybe Donnie Yen, Jackie Chan,Michelle Yeoh, Zhang Ziyi or Maggie Cheung. An R rating also would have allowed the fights to be more bloody and visceral as well.

Rent DOA, give it a chance if you want a fun martial arts film with Devin Aoki, Eric Roberts, and Jamie Pressly.

Ahh the lovely slate of Anderson projects:

Death Race (2008)
Spy Hunter (2008)
The Long Good Friday (2009?)

I think he is only writing producing Castlevania and The Man With The Football now, instead of directing.

I have no problem with him doing Death Race and Spy Hunter. Both will be packed to the rim with action and will probably be a lot of dumb fun. While I would prefer Death Race to retain the political satire of the original, I can live without it. With Spy Hunter, I'd rather have Anderson waste his time on it than John Woo anyway. As for The Long Good Friday? Well, I'm trying to pretend it isn't happening. Anderson isn't a horrible director. He is a bad writer though, which is a problem considering he pens most of his own projects. If he were to have someone else tackle the writing side of things, his films would improve quite a bit. I don't think that will ever happen though.

One would think that after butchering DEATH RACE that PWS Anderson would have said all he needed to about driving dangerously.

Where's Michael Bay when you need him?

He is discovering that Tranformers... are more then meets the eye.

Having no story means there's nothing for the makers to fall back on, and WS left to his own devices... means Event Horizon.

The biggest selling point of DOA games is tits. Big, juggling tits that bounce around while preteen looking girls giggle and moan and beat the shit out of each other.

Now you come and say DOA actually had potential if it was more serious and bloody. That is basically the same sorry excuse every follower of a videogame adaption says but see, the Weinsteins didn't water down DOA because it's already watered down in game form. If it was r-rated with fountains of blood and se7en darkness it wouldn't be DOA anymore.

DOA the flick has everything DOA the games have - and that actually isn't all that entertaining.

C'mon, it's chicks in bikinis kicking butt. Forget the can sizes. There is about no way of making this premise a serious and seriously good movie.
