You sure that's not the Japanese title of the new Godzilla movie? Like Godzilla vs London?

See, I don't think I would've seen that if you hadn't pointed it out. Now it's *all* I can see.

I don't see anything but shapes. But I do see that an advertising agency was probably paid millions of dollars to come up with...shapes.

I always think something similar to that when I see a particularly lame ad on TV that I can tell was trying way too hard to be clever, but just comes off as stupid.

"How is it possible that the client is happy with that?"

London's got the Olympics? Isn't Great Britain a mostly Muslim Country anyway these days? Does that mean they won't have to shoe bomb?

Looks like a Japanese Nickelodeon logo to me.

Ugh. Looks like a pile of rocks to me.

Well, it will be recognizable the world over, like the client wanted! True, it'll be recognized as a shitty looking logo, but damn it, it'll be recognized!

I can't believe someone got paid for this.

for a logo that looks like rocks.. add a few white splotches and you'd have a decent WINTER Olympics logo... where you know, there are rocks and mountains.

To be fair, the final event of the Decathalon for this Olympics is being changed to the AGGROCRAG.

Good thing it's only for the Olympics, which are fucking dumb.

HA! me too. Although, I don't get the "African Man" part. It looks less like an Afro, just merely someone's head.

Wow, that's horrible.

Still, my hometown gave us the "Whatizit" mascot for the 1996 games*, so I probably shouldn't criticize.

Yeah, we're one General Election away from becoming a Shariah State.

In terms of the logo, the only thing I see is a deformed neon Swastika.

Better looking olympic logos.

I really like the Chicago one.

I think it's a hand job / blow job combo.

According to the wikipedia entry, the design cost about £400,000. This is a great entry:

There have been two London 2012 logos: one for the bidding process created by Kino Design and a second as the brand for the Games themselves. The latter, designed by Wolff Olins, was unveiled on 4 June 2007 and cost £400,000. This new logo is a stylised representation of the number 2012, with the Olympic Rings embedded within the zero. The logo is available in a number of colours, and for the first time, the same logo is to be used for both the Olympic and Paralympic games.

London 2012 has stated that the new logo is aimed at reaching young people. Sebastian Coe stated that it builds upon everything that the organising committee has said "about reaching out and engaging young people, which is where our challenge is over the next five years". One observer, a managing director of an advertising agency, noted that the logo bore a strong resemblance to the logo for children's television programme Tiswas, commenting that appealing to young people is difficult, and that they will see right through attempts to patronise them.

Early public reaction to the logo, as measured by a poll on the BBC Web site, has been largely negative: more than 83% of the first 16,000 votes gave the logo the lowest possible rating. Critics have claimed that the logo's graphics are out of date, and that the logo does not positively represent the city. Several newspapers have run their own logo competitions, displaying alternative submissions from their readers. The Sun displayed a design by a macaque monkey.

An online petition for its replacement received 48,615 signatures in just two days, after which the petition was closed, once it became clear that there was little chance of the logo being changed as a result.

The free newspaper London Lite, in its 5 June edition, printed a text from a reader pointing out the resemblance of the logo to Lisa Simpson performing oral sex. Numerous sources reported similar remarks being posted on blogs or article comments, while other sources described it as resembling a "broken window", "hip-hop graffiti" and even a "distorted swastika". One website ran an obvious spoof that became widely circulated on the net saying that remaining members of the Waffen SS had sued the London games for logo-theft.

A segment of animated footage released at the same time as the logo was reported to trigger seizures in a small number of people with photosensitive epilepsy. The charity Epilepsy Action received telephone calls from people who had had seizures after watching the sequence on TV. In response, a short segment was removed from the London 2012 website. Ken Livingstone, the London Mayor, said that the company who designed the film should not be paid a penny for what he called a "catastrophic mistake".

And the IOC said Chicago had to change the logo because it's not a host city(yet).

logo. The IOC's rules of conduct for bid cities say that logos shall not contain the Olympic symbol, motto, flag or other imagery including a flame, torch or medal.
Still a great logo and smart for Chicago to get that image out.
